- This is an approximately four minute segment, created from the full 45 minute performance, WoE: Walking on Eggshells, by Kristine Maltrud (choreographer and performer) and Keely Mackey-Gonzales aka Celloquacious (composer, sound sketch artist and electroacoustic cellist).
There are times in life where one feels you're walking on eggshells. This is an experimental performace art collaboration between Kristine Maltrud and Keely Mackey. The pair are part of UETF's (Urban Enhancement Trust Fund) Resiliency Residency at FUSION Theatre. WoE: Walking on Eggshells, explores the idiom through layers of meaning and expression, including etymology, personal narrative, historical events and current global predicaments.
Maltrud is a life-long dance/theater preformaner, teacher and choreographer, who has performed, studied and taught in the United States, Europe and Asia.
Mackey, whose artist name is Celloquacious, plays electro-acoustic cello, and has developed her own style of cello performance spanning over four decades of classical training. Her work draws inspiration from deep-time in nature and in contamplative silence.
Maltrud concieved of WoE during two artist residencies in British Colombia, Canada in 2018-2019. Due to Maltrud's layered, improvisational sound and movement scores, Mackey made a memorized sound sketch from observation, collaborative discussion and improvisation. Keely also performs three of her compositions at the beginning of the 45 minute performance, to set the emotional expectation of the piece: Endeavor, Transfiguration and Requiem.
The first composition featured in this particular clip is entitled: Requiem, and the final composition is entitled: Hopeful, both are compositions written and performed by Keely Mackey-Gonzales.
