This was the best showing of each islands war cry to date by alternating between each other. Its as if they have been practicing this for a while. This was epic.
The Samoa captain Junior Paulo suggested it in the pre-match coin toss. His partner is Tongan. As much as it's all very confrontational, he thought it'd be good for unity.
Junior Paulo, Samoa's captain: “When we headed out to the coin toss there was talks about who was going to go first" “I just spoke to Jase (Taumalolo) and threw the question out there if we wanted to do it together thinking it’s a good sign of unity between the two nations and the support over rugby league in general." “It’s a really proud moment, for myself too, my partner’s Tongan and my kids are half and half so it’s always going to be a tough conversation about who to support." “But I think that’s the best thing about celebrating both cultures.”
I was working and all us Tongan and Samoans would take off to the locker room every 15 minutes to read live updates. All us were anxious and at the end no one spoke of the game and we just carried on work as usual.

Excellent display I’ve seen between the two nations. You can feel the intensity in the air when they’re both at it. The game was great but the pre game ritual was better in my opinion. The Fijian hymn singing is quite different. The whole stadium gets filled with their melodious vocals. Moving.. It’s pure magic! I’d encourage them to keep it. It makes the Batis different to their pre game ritual in rugby union.

As a black woman I feel like crying. 🤍 I remember meeting native Hawaiians and they said how I looked like their ancestors and we both started crying. I had on traditional clothing with a long braid and it reminded them of their past…when the Hawaiian people were more indigenous looking….Like a whole group of Hawaiian were just hugging us. I’ll never forget that as long as I live. ✨🙏🏽

@@cascade3769 considering England's first training squad was named back in March and final 24 man squad announced late September, they better win against Samoa who have had no prior preparations, no warm up or anything prior to game 1 and have used the 4 games to improve and gel as a team. How embarrassing it will be if England lose and even more earth shattering once the world knows that Samoa didn't have any preparation and played as a new team for the first time in game 1 vs a team that's been in training camp for months.

With 3 of the 8 Samoan grand finalists injured, it's evened out with 5 grand finalists on each side. England is rank 3rd in the world & Samoa 7th. Though Samoa is peaking at the right time, there's still a lot to work on but if they're able to get the win with only 4 weeks under their belt, why wouldn't it be embarrassing for the world cup hosts who've been training for months ? If anything England should be the one to win with all the preparations they've made. This is the gap between coaching ability & preparation. It will boil down to whether Samoa can close this gap & prove critics wrong otherwise England will win.
Best moment of the World Cup, bar none. To see them counter each other's rituals was hair raising. But the respect shown was also inspirational. Pity the game itself was utterly ruined by the worst commentary team I've ever had the misfortune to listen to.
