I used to sneak out of my 2nd flr window to go 2 the Music Box, I was 16 and the party didn't start till 1am. Also used to say I was staying at a friends house to go dance. Once I was 17 Mom let me go out and I'd stay until the doors closed at 7am. My Mom asked me if I was on drugs because I came home exhausted, I remember telling her it was from dancing. I cherish those days because now at 42 all I have are the memories of my Beautiful Loving Mother and my Music Hero Ron Hardy. House Head
I'm trying to figure out why no one has mentioned how crazy the light show was. Ron used to work the lights in sync with the music. The strobe lights had a rhythmic effect while Ron was beating the speakers into oblivion.....RIP Ron Hardy
WOW....takes me back to many nites standing on the Cottage Grove bus stop @ 12 midnight going to the party!! ....once you got there...you was loosing your mind...I remember Boclare and the crew...yelling.."ALL RIGHT RONI BOY...YOU AIN'T SO BAD BOY YOU AIN'T SO BAD!!!"...Nothing today can compare to what you hear in this post!!
Stacey baby, I remember it like was yesterday. That girls screamin is fellin it. Made me wanna beat my body but it move like that no mo. Girl sometimes wish I can still move like I had no bones in my body.
To all u ron hardy fans im trying to start a potection to get lower waker name after him cause he change life for a lot of people and need to be recognized for what he done for house music in Chicago
Dude is taking out the Bass and adding it back in again!!... something that was normally done in reggae music.. and is still being done.. today!!... wicked!!
Its amazing that these guys made music that totally influenced culture over here in UK what i would give to have heard this shiz live back in the day. Gone but NOT forgotten,
What black music did not become the blueprint for something else? all modern music is derivative of some black dudes style and grace. without exception actually. all peoples of this earth have gifts..and musical genius is ours.
As i was listening to this, i remember vividly being there, young and wet behind the ears, full of energy, dance, dance, dance, none stop, watching people go crazy, i mean literally, I'm talking holly ghost like!! i just had an out of body experience, i thought i was 15 again, at the Box.
thats the man, we had ron at house party at my high school, hales franciscan, junior year, we paid him $500, i think he dj for an hour, he should have got a grand, thats how cold ron was, we paid to get his name on the plugger, those were the days
This guy is a legend in Chi-town. You realize he is one of the many inspirations that started Eurodance and techno. From a DJ standpoint he did stuff that most DJ's can't do after 20 years in the game. I still don't know how you can mix two turntables AND REEL to REEL tapes at the same time and have it on point.
if you missed this era, i feel for you, rip to ron hardy...... g.a. tank tops, hotdogs , and tams, with nike running shoes/ jackn all night till the sun came up!!!!!!!!!!
Just hearing the background sounds brings back hella memories. I used to go to the party on thursday nights and wasn't supposed to be there. I was a junior in high school when I started going to the party in 1984. Damn, had to sneak out cause the party didn't open til midnight and didn't start jumping til around 1am. Anybody remember the water and the fruit. Partake at your own risk....lol.
Countless times I had to sneak out to go to the BOX be it on the cottage grove bus or catching a ride we did not care cause once you got turned on to this sound it was a wrap!!! Nobody did it like Ron...damn I just wish those parties had been on tape......well maybe not....RIP Ron and now Frankie...house forever!!!
Ahhhhh! that is good stuff...yeah my mom was at home at night so I couldn't get out....but I got my chance to go to a Mendel party and it changed the music in my life forever....but I was on the the #4 many times too....Caio!!! thanks for sharing..Party for Frankie......
Sweat pants, tee shirts and all stars was the look until I could afford Girbaud, Armani, etc, from the boosters of course. Great post, love to hear the crowd into it. Sends chills thru me. You had to be there.
Noboby did it or does it like ron to this day, was like he could feel his crowd...getn leg cramps while heading home from the box on the red line @10a sunday mornings...this takes me back...thx for posting💚
The first transition from Tavares into Cheryl Lynn alone makes me a believer in Mr. Hardy's lengendary status as one of the best jocks that have ever lived on god's green earth.
