This was the kind of toy I'd call a "rich kid's toy". No normal kid was ever gonna get something like this.

Why would He-Man build a public monorail system to his arch nemesis lair?

If only this had come out a couple years earlier...I probably would've got this for Christmas. I was already 13 in '86 and moving away from toys...although I did keep collecting the figures themselves until the very last.

I have one.. got it around 20yrs ago when they was way cheaper. Back when most people didn't have internet and alot of folks never knew they made a Eternia playset.

The size was impressive, but this playset didn't make much sense to me as a kid. But then, I was pretty much done with Masters of the Universe when Transformers came out.

I didn't have room for something like this and neither did any kid I knew. This was some Ricky Shroder/Silver spoons type stuff. I believe this would have failed regardless of the release year due to the sheer impracticality of a playset this large. J$H Friday 10.07.2022 8:22 PM

Great video, both informative and entertaining! I'm getting the new Origins Eternia and can't wait!

The biggest playset I ever had was the MASK Boulder Hill and I would store it atop of the refrigerator as I had no space in my room. I'm thinking here that Mattel was trying to outshine the GIJoe USS Aircraft Carrier.

Would love to see one set up with castle grayskull up close. Probably pretty wicked

I always thought He-Man was silly. And Mr. French just had a special 30 hour video devoted to this playset. Learned more from Dorkman in this 14 minute video though then the 30 hour plus video.

I'm pre-ordering the new version of this because it is cheaper and bigger than the original Eternia!

I remember asking for the Eternia playset for Christmas '86 and coming up empty handed. My parents probably thought it was too expensive or couldn't find it. Now I know only 4,000 were made, so that makes sense. I later pieced together one over the course of a few years. Some of the pieces are pricier than others. I started out with a shell of the three towers with a few parts and kept looking on eBay for good deals on the other pieces. The only reproduction parts I have are the monorail tracks and Viper Tower chains. Will probably get the Origins one too as I am a huge sucker for all things MOTU.

I faintly remember this set when I was a kid. By that time I had moved away from MOTU because I saw them as little kids toys and had moved on to GI Joe because they were more realistic. I was deep into GI Joe. Now I like them both and it's costing me an arm and a leg.

@That Junkman Yes, (MOTU Eternia Playset) and Hasbro's GI Joe USS Flagg) had to be the two best Playsets of the 1980s. Probably the biggest reason why they did not sell well? Was because they were just too expensive due to there large size. Most parents didn't want to buy them because of the high price range.

In RB's new vid he says anyone that buys this is "stupid" because he's afraid if people do it will give Mattel the idea to raise prices on his beloved MOTU Origins figures. So you're wrong JM this is NOT cool the overlord says so 🙂

  • @texasscifi3431

Wow now I know a 10 year old isn't going to apply 80 stickers to Eternia. Back in 1986 a parent would be driven insane.
