The fact that they could produce gold leaf indicates the level of refinement their artisans had achieved.

I love how many different cultures you touch on, and always with respect for them all. We could all learn a thing from that alone.

Very cool. My wife was adopted from Lima in '80. But she's been able to trace some lineage to Moche. They clearly mastered not only alloys but symmetry. All those nose rings are cut nearly to vertical line of symmetry. Makes me think heat was involved in shaping the polygonal walls.

I've never seen a nose ring quite like these! I wouldn't even call it a ring, but I can't think of a better name, lol.
This is a reminder that no matter how important we are in our day, we will all answer to time.. This woman was buried with objects that indicated how progressively powerful she was, but look how little we know of her... Would it matter if we knew more?
Anyway, I love the detail on the nose ornaments - much better name! - later in the video. The designs are beautiful and the 80's gaming reference was hilarious. 😂

It's fine now for me too... I tried it multiple times to be sure, but I guess it was a stubborn - and strangely specific - lag. Whoops! 😅@@smarthistory-art-history

based on what we know about the Lord of Sipan, she was indeed a ruler. The Shamanic head dress, the scepters are all evidence that she was a priestess ruler of the Moche people. The iconography in the ceramic of the Moche depicts, the Shaman as rulers, being carried in golden litters and performing gruesome ritualistic acts. The parallels with the Lord of Sipan are clear.

Moche are like the Maya from the Andes, and are severely understudied. Sad.
