I was truly hoping that maybe we JRNY Fans would get a special one off 20 year anniversary Trial by Fire Show. My first CD I ever owned when I was 9 ha! I was born the year Steve stopped touring w Journey and it breaks my heart I've never seen Perry live. That hasn't stopped me from seeing them 15 times, with both Steve Augeri and Arnel. They blow my mind every time. I actually won a contest to meet them during the Revelation Tour and it was an incredible moment. I shook the hands of my heroes and welcomed Arnel to the most dedicated (and sometimes brutal) fans he will ever perform for. That night they played When You Love a Woman (which I never saw with Steve A), Arnel dedicated it to his wife and every couple in the crowd. He has a deep appreciation for the work done before his Arrival (pun intended) and it shows with this performance. Thank you so much for posting it, I feel like Arnel has the range to absolutely nail those Trial by Fire songs (Forever in Blue and Message of Love especially). Let's all hope this year they get inducted into the RnR Hall of Fame, a place they've deserved to be for a decade plus. I personally want to see both Steve Perry AND Arnel there to get the nod. I will spend whatever I have to just to be there for a moment that incredible. My dream of seeing Steve Perry sing in the same room as me just might come true in a few months, gives me chills.
Trial by Fire is an incredible album. Definitely one of their best. I think many of the songs tie to the passing of Perry’s wife(?) instrumentally amazing and lyrically deep. Just great talent!
They never toured this album when it came out....Trial By Fire. ...It must have been very tough for everyone in the band not to play these....Perry's voice had just started to change....I feel even more beautiful (if that could be done)....lol....but Arnel does a great job here live...the magic Perry had with Cain, & Schon was just so amazing, and we have all the wonderful recordings to listen to.
I'm a huge journey fan guys but trial by fire is a pretty odd album every time i explore its hard to understand the enormous departure from the style we see on previous albums. Musically everyone's talent is still shining through on this album including perry with a more raspy sound but still amazing, but as a whole most of the songs on this album just don't fit to me. Some odd lyrics as well that are or i hope interpretive.
I love this song. It's a very Catholic (Christian) song in my estimation. This whole album is very good, but definitely a departure from Journey's previous style.
Trial by Fire is an astounding album, Arnel absolutely KILLED IT here. Thank you for sharing this!
