  • After finishing my balanced arm camera mount in my last video...I promptly broke it. In the process of fixing it, I went down the side project rabbit hole and made a mini pallet fixture plate and some small toe clamps.

I promise I'll still mostly make stuff out of rusty junk and not just buy shiny things with your money.

And now I know what a fixture pallet is. You must have the patience of a saint.

Pallets are very handy. I find myself drilling and tapping new locations as the job dictates.
    Well done sir.

1/4 pins with larger heads is a nice solution to the bolt clearance problem. The camera shots are already looking better. Thanks for going to the effort to make the stop motion tapping.

Hi Jeremy, one of the words people (at least here in the UK) use without thinking is: pleasure. Your videos for me are reliably a pleasure to watch. Thank you!

I really enjoy your videos. Hopefully the camera mount will make them easier to make.
Also, thanks foe posting on the week day. So many of the channels I subscribe to only post on the week ends.

Did anyone else blow at their screen instinctively to clear the chips when he was drilling the holes for the plate?

I have the same Index Model 40 you have and your comment about it not having a quill stop got me to thinking about how one might make one and it occurred to me that a collar could be made that fits on top of the spindle above the pulleys and is clamped in that area at whatever point you want the spindle to stop. I haven't actually looked closely at my mill to check feasibility but I thought I'd toss the idea out there.

If you're going to cast aluminum, you should de-gas it right before the pour. you can do this by bubbling argon, or nitrogen through the molten metal after removing the dross and oxides from the top right before pouring.

Every hold should be reamed at the top and tapped at the bottom. Ream them a bigger size than the threads. If you need the pin put it in the top. Or if you need the bolt it just goes a little bit deeper.

Nice work Jeremy, I enjoyed the detour into mini-pallet territory. One or two of those is also a back burner project for me. Thanks, Craig

The scrap drawer makes me jealous.
The replacement casting came out really nice!
Next time try to use a smaller sprue, since it appeared your flow of Aluminium was interruped from what i can tell from the video.
I am glad you didn't break your camera when the arm failed.

Well, watching this, I really didn't mind being on a tripod :)
This wavy finish you have is a typical shaper finish. I never figured oud why shapers do that. Some say its because of the teeth on the bull gear that give an uneven cutting speed, but I'm not convinced.

I don’t actually. Some does come out of the river, but this stuff was from the scrap/stock pile at a blacksmith shop auction.

Check out Quinn's video about low profile side clamps. This might help with the pin issue. ruclips.net/video/E5pW4PDv6JU/видео.html

When you doing your casting why did you can't you in large the in take holes for better follows of the metal

    • @JeremyMakesThings
      @JeremyMakesThings  Год назад

Larger holes cause turbulence which traps air and oxide film in the metal. It’s better to keep than as small as possible so they stay full while pouring.
