This dude has understood what it means to be a true leader and he's even passing this skill on. The moment Calvin tells the guy it's too salty says so much about the working attitude and atmosphere.
by saying... "its too salty"? That shows that hes a true leader? Odd that thats what you point out what makes a "good working attitude/atmosphere" from this vid lmao. Guy just said it was too salty
@@Gunsforbuns it’s not what he said only. It’s what came after and how he said it. In some professional kitchens, if you made anything out of what’s expected, you get berated and screamed at with little to no actual feedback. In a kitchen like this, you’d expect everyone to be perfect at what they’re doing but people make mistakes. Calvin knows if he did what I said earlier, it doesn’t help anyone, especially team morale.
I heard this chef passed away. So heartbreaking. Loved him in this vid and would loved to have worked for him. Condolences to his family and colleagues
Seeing this man on chefs night out was so lovely and seeing the way he is with his staff just shows anything he puts out will no doubt be amazing with the passion and love for what he does is true
This is what I love about cooking? It doesn't matter where you come from or your background, Let the food speak for itself. Chef , I'm a chef as well and your food is amazing.
I'd love to be an editor for you guys some day. I love watching these shows and bringing to life the stories behind these remarkable artists is something I imagine would be so satisfying to do.
It's RUclips channels like this which not only get us through the pandemic but allow us to transform our very thoughts about different dining experiences.
I'm really happy for Jamal James. Considering he had to hide behind his background for so long and now look at him runs what looks like a fun, interesting and delicious place to dine at. Eater found a great place to tour! Update: I can't believe Jamal James passed away. I hope his legacy is continued the right way. Would be a tragedy to know his empire falls. RIP 🕊️
This guy was just on Munchies Chef's Night Out, it was wholesome because of just getting wasted like everybody else he went out with his kids and wife. He seems like a good guy who's not a pretentious chef that I see in these videos about these kinds of restaurants.
@@joshuapatrick682 yeah but also it’s that look good feel good feel good play good mentality. Is it a bit much? Yeah. It it’s still fun. Still a chemistry builder
Jamal (as a person and as an owner/chef) is incredible! I was impressed not only by his personal story (he says "I don't need to hide behind my first name - I have my own personal stories to tell") but also by his genuine interaction with his staff (the guy saying "my life is perfect since I started working here" with his boss right next to him is hilarious!). And it does not hurt that he grew up listening to Wu Tang Clan 😉
I really like how he wants his team “to go on and do amazing things.” I’ve heard so many stories about chefs who get super upset about their protégé leaving to open their own restaurant
Its possible it could have be well hidden while the cameras where there but I feel like this is one of the healthiest kitchen atmospheres I’ve ever seen. I think that another change in our generations dining experience.
Rest in Peace , you are one of the most amazing chefs out there and one of the chefs that inspires me to keep at in my career as a chef , THANK YOU CHEF!
Chef Jamal, you are a truly master chef of fine dining. I am not easily impressed, but you truly have created and mastered what fine dining is all about. Your unique cuisine creation and presentation are unsurpassed. The passion, time, and skill that you dedicated to each master piece of art/cuisine is unmatched by any other. Many fine dining restaurants are very expensive, but the food is average, placing a high $$$$ amount on a cuisine does not make fine dining. One day if I happen to be in NY and my wallet allows me to experience your master creations, I will be the first person in line to reserve a table. Applauds and a standing ovation to you CHEF JAMAL! Thank you to all of your TALENTED team of CHEFS!!
I can't imagine guests really appreciate the amount of work that goes in to these dishes. Maybe, only allow reservations to those who watch these videos first!
This is the best video I've watched of a Chef & I've watched sooooooo many of these. He is heartwarming & just wants everyone on his team to succeed. This is amazing! Will definitely save up to go here in the future.
There's virtually nothing on that (top floor) menu that I would want to eat, but watching these videos is amazing to see such brilliant professionals at the top of their game.
I was so impressed by this team and the Chef. Lots of positive leadership lessons - oozes sincerity and fun. I want to eat at this chaps restaurants! (and I will next time I’m in NY)
The way Chef Kent is so unspoken about his control and leadership, he just speaks with his cooks like he’s one of them yet clearly his restaurant is a successful, well oiled machine
The work and technique that goes into the dishes are amazing and time consuming. If this place does not have a Michelin star, I hope it can get one in the future.
I never expected to comeback to rewatching this video, only to hear that Chef Jamal has passed away. My sincerest condolences to the family and friends of such a great man. Rest in peace Chef.
Finally a leader who understands that just because they work for a high standard, doesn't mean the workplace needs to be frustrating and exhausting for the workers.
I remember the time when I was still working in Tetsuya in Sydney Australia. Service is similar to this which is extremely beautiful & constant pressure at the same time.
is saw this chef and a bit of the resturant on the "night out" series but this was an even cooler look. lmao at the chef breaking down the fish, "just say yes - please" haha wanted to get that respect for the sweet shoes

uuummmm.... this video, this crew these chefs... inspiring beyond belief... what a way they play... what a world they create... respect and admiration all the way!
This is now $345 - $395 gratuity not included lol. Ridiculous that gratuity isnt included - especially when you can get food of the same quality in dozens of other places just in NYC for less money. Now I can understand why La Bernadin monthly reservations are booked within the first day of the month and SAGA has a reservation open an hour from now
They also have main food of duck so good!! I wish they could show how to make duck and how Alex making!! The duck is the best cooking for main food at SAGA!! 🤩🤩🤩 I hope they will have A PART 2!!! They cook so much meaningful and kind soul, so much magical taste like dream in your food!! Best food in NYC!!
"The mushrooms though -- I'm a real fun guy. Please don't edit that out. I've been waiting my whole life to say that." This man deserves a Michelin star.
I loved this!!! Food looked amazing!!! When the did the cucumber I was thinking one scoop out, then they made the scoop the vessel!!!! Also loved how everyone is meticulous in their craft and yet sarcastically funny af!!!!

Rest in peace chef
This video Intruduced me to himm I had to come back to this video to see if it was true rip 🙏
I just opened the video for the first time that’s crazy 😭
The head chef saying that he wants all his guys to go off somewhere better and be successful made me respect him so much.

the best part was kicking the nerd truffle out "get out of here nerd"
That piece of truffle was such a loser
