The KK Saroo previously shipped with FGPA02 which cannot be updated by software. It won't brick, it just won't update. It is possible to update via hardware means using a Altera USB blaster interfacing with the card's JTAG interface or flashing directly to the eeprom chip with a CH341A programmer. From FGPA04 onwards, this supported firmware updates via SD-card. Retroparadise store sold their Saroo's from FGPA04...so people can update via SD. The latest FGPA version released is now 05. Both KK DIY and Retro Paradise now sells with FGPA05 and updatable via SD card...so this is now a non issue. The latest firmware sorts games in alphabetical order.
@@fistbumpbros it may brick if you inadvertently update the MCU firmware with the wrong FGPA version. (firmware has FGPA and MCU component). In that case, you can only restore by updating FGPA via hardware methods or restore the correct MCU firmware by using a stlink programmer. Certainly not user friendly, but then again this is an open source project that's still in development, and is only a issue if you had bought this from KK in the past.
There are many people outdated, retro game store KK DIY sold the PCB version. 1.36 with the FPGA 02, this update was undoubtedly a programmer error who ended up accidentally putting this FPGA in place of the FPGA 03, but what no one knew was that Saroo from the retro games store KK DIY on the FPGA 02 was running metal Slug while the Saroo from the retro game paradise store only started running metal Slug on the FPGA 04, in addition the Saroo from the kk DIY retro game store is much more finished, I also bought it with the FPGA 02 and used a USB blaster to update and today I updated via SD card and so far I'm enjoying it a lot without any defects, the detail is that Saroo doesn't break, it's just Brick so this can be resolved by going back to the old FPGA with the USB blaster and then via SD card, Saroo is doing very well and both stores are now very reliable, KK DIY retro game store and retro game paradise.
I have the Rhea, the Satiator and the Saroo. The Rhea have access to the action replay ( which is impossible for the Saroo and a bit dangerous with the Satiator because you have to start the game without the cartridge and then reset the game and insert the action replay at that moment which can corrupt all your save files on it !). For the loading time there is no doubt that the Saroo is the king. For 1mb and 4mb all can use it but the Saroo has it built in, so advantage here. Now the most important, the compatibility and that’s where disappointment comes. I am going to make a video about those 3 devices on my channel soon.
I have now about 86 games that start. I'm fine for the moment. Also, the cart is still in development. The creator can fix this with FW updates, so no biggie there. I have never used an Action Replay in my life, so that's no biggie for me 😄
@@fistbumpbros the action replay is great once you have already finished a game. I use it in shining force 3 to play with characters that are normally impossible to play. It is not only about cheating but also unlocking what seems impossible.
If you were to flash your action replay to a Pseudo Kai that should remove the need to remove/insert the cart with the Satiator. I have the purpose built Pseudo Kai with the built in switch for 1m and 4m memory along with the cheats menu and a Satiator. When my Saturn boots, it boots to the Pseudo Kai, I back out to "multiplayer" and boot to the Satiator menu. I then select a game and the game boots. If you then reset your console with the reset button the system will boot back to the Pseudo Kai menu. The game you selected in your Satiator is still loaded and you can then select your cheats. Is the Saroo cartridge able to use both the RAM expansion and the storage expansion at the same time while playing a game?
