It's the gateway to anime because the real music is the friends we make along the way. Seriously, Studio Ghibli knows the right amount of heartstrings to pull. They prove how powerful music can be. And that's on top of the beauty of Ghibli's animation. A perfect balance

I think Joe Hisaishi’s unique ability to, through his music, caress both you, the story, the characters’s fate in the film, very gently while opening your heart… is why his film scores are so touching. The theory can be studied to death, but ultimately it comes down to communicating a genuine understanding and care for people.

Maj7#4 (or #11 but I mostly see it replacing the 3rd, not extending on it in these cases) is used so frequently, from what I can tell, because it is a nearly complete chord of the In Sen scale-one of the two main Japanese pentatonic scales-of its 7th.
For example, Fmaj7#4 has all the notes of an In Sen scale starting on E, excluding only D.

Thank you so much for covering Studio Ghibli. It's some of my favorite music, especially Mononoke Hime. Joe Hisaishi composes such beautiful music. I would love a sequel video going over some more Ghibli music. I would also love if you did a video on the music of Beastars. There's a lot of good jazzy music in the anime.
