As stressful as it is I feel like apartment hunting is such a good way to get to know a new city AND practice speaking French, I'm Irish and moved to Lyon about 2 years ago and it was soo stressful and daunting, but I got to know the city and was forced to speak French. AND when you finally get an apartment and you're wandering around the city you can be like 'ah I remember visiting an apartment in this area back when I first moved here' :')
Hi Moya, I just wanted to lend a different view on this housing thing. Paris is an expensive city and loads of people want to move in and come to city everyday. Housing for the locals is a big deal and, while it sucks it is taking you a long time, this is a law that protects French people and those contributing to their economy because they are interested in the overall growth and protecting their inhabitants first (which makes sense). If you think from a perspective of someone with less means living in their own city trying to make ends meet, it means a lot to feel like they have somewhat of an advantage to what is their own place and the place they contribute too. That being said, I hope you can find somewhere soon and understand a bit better why the process is so painstaking
Hi Moya, what you say at the beginning, that they prefer to give apartments to French people or people who work with French companies is not necessarily true. In my latest apartment I was competing against someone with a CDI while I'm a freelancer (with irregular income) and I got the apartment in the end. What they want is that you have your company in France. So if you can and you think about staying for at least 6 months, set up a company here. It will make life easier. One agent once explained it to me like this "when you decide to leave without paying rent you're just gone.. you're under the radar". I honestly don't know what happens if you don't pay your rent 😅 but that's how he explained it to me.
That is true but I do believe they absolutely do prefer people with CDI. Obviously not in your case and I have to say you’re very lucky! It is possible but they also make it feel very difficult. From my personal experience anyway 😅….I’m glad Moya is being honest and highlighting this because so many people don’t realise how hard it is with renting in France (as someone not French or without a CDI).
Moving to Paris in August and your vlogs feel like a "transition" into that new chapter in my life, good luck on your apartment hunt! (can't wait to struggle myself ahaha) :)
hardly ever comment below YT videos, but wanted to tell you how much I love the vibe of your videos and the way you depict Paris. I now live in Barcelona, but come from Paris, and seeing your videos makes me nostalgic… your calm aesthetic vibe just is the cherry on top :)
Sending you strength and courage ! I am from France and live in Lyon, it is very intense to look for a place in France. Especially in big cities. You are gonna find THE place don’t worry. Just don’t put too much hope in one place that you have barely visited… This is so difficult I know, because I like a lot to imagine myself and my decor stuff around that place. But in the end you might be disappointed… I feel you Moya 🫶 But don’t worry, everything will fall back into place ☺️ Bisou, oui oui baguette 😘🥖
Very different situation, but I get the stress of being an international in another country! I’ve been applying for colleges in UK from the US and it is SO stressful. So many details that you don’t think of and obstacles coming up at every turn it feels like. Believing for both of us that it will work out! Even if it looks different than we hoped ❤️
moya, just came across your channel and I am loving your videos. your genuine personality is shining through and I am living vicariously through your Paris life! sending love
I LOVE your videos. Especially those from Florence and Paris. I've cried so many times watching your videos because I get such wanderlust and I just want to go there and never come back. Lots of love - Antonia from Germany :)
I'm living in Paris too and what yu said about the beauty of the city when the sun os out, I reallyyyy felt that today! Amazing for walks along the Seine and through the gardens 🥰
i’ve been keeping up with your journey navigating paris and i’m really glad you feel grateful and acknowledge the privilege it is to be in the city. i’m also apartment hunting. hopefully, we both don’t have settle for a place we don’t feel comfortable with. listen to your gut!! cheers from toronto x
The sunny days here really hit differently... I get so mad at this city but then seeing her in the sunlight I'm just like ohhhh that's why i wanted to come here....
omg you hanging out with Freya feels like worlds colliding!! I always see her in the Swedish vlogs of her friend Stephanie and in my head you're linked to the UK and all of a sudden you guys are in the same room!! so crazy (but so cooool!!)
This was lovely thank you ♥️ I definitely understand your struggles with renting abroad. My partner and I moved to the UK a few months ago and we really struggled to secure a place. Eventually we kind of had to settle for a place because the agencies and landlords would prioritize people who are from the area. Still really happy with our little place though and we spend most of our time out exploring anyway.💕 Definitely a learning experience.
In case you need it, I used the agency Paris Attitude to find an apt. as a foreigner... definitely pricier + agency fee, and I've heard mixed reviews but overall I had a good/easy experience. Could be something to keep in mind !
one of my professors shared her moving process from US to France, the struggle in finding an apartment and the paperwork-- rough to say the least, even opening a bank account was so many hurdles /.\ best of luck on your search!
I really loved the little maggie nelson reading! keep the updates if it's good coming :) I recently was thinking about purchasing one of her novels (the argonauts?). so much light and luck to you in the apartment hunt!
one of my favourite bands, grandmas house, were also guests at celine! edit: also if you like bluets definitely read the argonauts if you haven’t already and another book recommendation would be “no modernism without lesbians” which is about how lesbians were at the forefront of modernisation in france and in particular, paris
wow, and I thought the Oslo market was tough. Will be following your journey to you get your dream apartment! Just keep in mind, everything happens for a reason. Even if you didn't get the apartment viewed, you might end up with an even better one! Who knows
This is really useful to see. I am planning on moving to Europe next year so keep these videos coming honestly, any content about moving to a European city is useful I'm sure to a lot of people
Hi ! Im a french student but not coming from paris, finding an apartment in paris in hard even if your french so i cant imagine if your not french I send you love and Hope you find a beautiful place soon!💚 you will get there🫶💪
I see moya in pariss, I hopee you hit the netflix and make ur own movie 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺 i love you really love your videoo omaygaddd i can't really tell you that welll but luv yaaaaa, 🥰🥰🥰🥰
about getting an apartment in Paris, yes they would choose french over foreigners unless you say I pay whatever rent you want. I was lucky that we had a job at the big old french company hence taxes and we could afford to pay a really high rent when an average french person would not be able to do. The other option is to find a roommate with “good” documents. Also it is easier if you don’t work if you are at least a student. Overall, France it is the mindset and you have to get used to all the documents and mentality you can’t skip it. P.S. I definitely miss nice walks in Paris:) London is great but it won’t beat the cozy Parisian walk:)
I feel you!! finding a place in paris is such a pain for foreigners, at least you get to stay in dominic's lovely apartment whereas I slept on my friend's couch hahahaha
in lovee with that sweater! the beige camel knitted one with the checkered pattern, pleasee tell me its not thrifted so i can buy one cuz its super cute :))
Giiiiirl... I watched Damon struggle. His first apartment was "NYC sized". I'm not doubting you won't get it or that you should drop your standards. But he seemed to jump through sooooo many hoops just to get his tiny place (previous to this one). Wishing you all the luck. I'm an immigrant/foreigner in Australia, although housing seems a tad easier here.. I definitely have (similar) struggles in other departments...
Hi Moya, I hear you for the problems people face getting a good apartment in Paris. Honestly, even if you're French, with guarantors and all that, there is big competition for good places. But you also understand the owner's point of view too, which is good (French laws are tilted in favor of tenants so landlords have to be so very careful with the people they let in to rent). Hit me up on my email if you're around in Paris and want to chat over a coffee (you'll find it on my channel).
wishing you all the luck on ur hunt moya💗 thanks for sharing your experiences in paris, i’m studying abroad there next year and your videos are helping me with the uncertainty so much!!
you will find THE apartment! maybe it's just taking a while as when you finally find the one you'll be happier about it, as it took you some time to find :)
I am French paying french taxes and girl it is still hard out here! the things they ask you...but I can only imagine if you're a foreigner that has not lived here for long. but hey hope you'll find your dream place
hey moya! I am from Paris and I lived there for most of my life. If you need any advice on some cool places, recommendations of museums or books, movies (to practice your french ahah), anything do not hesitate really :) also, I know how hard it is to live in Paris coming from another country and how French can be not open... If I can help you about anything, I am always going back to see my family in Paris once in a month!
@@elpetatodo hey! pleasure to share some recommendations! For books, my favorite one "Bonjour tristesse" by Françoise Sagan is amazing and kind of "easy" (it is short and the atmosphere is incredible) but also for poems "les fleurs du mal" by Baudelaire are beautiful and can be great to learn and take time for traduction. Movies, there is a LOT but "Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain" is great to romanticize Paris, even if it is a cliché it's still amazing.. Others : "Première année" (about medicine), "the French Dispatch" ... there is too much I can't choose ahahaha
It is also very hard for french people to find an apartment in paris, i was born and raised here and i'm struggling too. Which is why only the wealthier kids live in paris and everyone else live extra-muros. Maybe you could try la banlieue lol. I would really suggest everyone that wants to move here to really research (it is only a fairytale to white people who have money). I really hope you get the apartment you are looking for!
i am in love with this video, wow!! so good!! i have a question, where are you staying while doing the apartment hunting? like air bnb or what? also good luck with the apartment, i know you'll find the right place. sending love 💓
Even for french people who live and work here it's hard to get an appartement. Our system is very different from the US. I know how much it can be frustrating but you will finally get your flat ;)
i'm going to paris on holiday soon and i was wondering what your favourite places/activities to do are in paris that are good for tourists who don't speak much french and aren't looking to spend too much money? x
Hello there, I’m living in Paris and I can recommend my favourite place to go to for drinks and diner :) it’s very typical of French Bistros and not too expansive : it’s called Les Cousins, it’s near Bastille, Moya mentioned the neighbourhood in her vlog :)
also I do want to reiterate that I feel very very very grateful that I have the time and flexibility to be picky right now - I want to be here for at least a year (more !!) so want to make sure things feel right and yeah will share all the tours/details etc in the final apt hunting vid!! hopefully that’s not too far away… but thank you for joining me on this processs eeeek every hurdle will make it all the more special to find my own place in the end 🥹🥲🤭 bisous ILY xx
Bisousss it’s gonna happen in the best time ❤️
i’m also apartment hunting. it’s been an excruciating 2-month process. hope we both find places we genuinely love soon!

Sunny Paris looks magical. Especially the clips of your morning run, it's like I could feel the atmosphere and crisp air 🥺💕

How refreshing. I wish Canada would do the same.

i’m in awe with how moya handles rejection, i would be a mess especially when i saw the apartment put back up 💔
these vlogs bring me so much joy i cant even explain it
im so happy
i wish i could go back and watch this for the first time
