It bums me out that they phased out the Oak Cross this past year. The new Orchard House that they brought in instead is pretty delicious though. Kinda like a smoky apple pie. Cheers!
Good one, thanks Scott, thanks Bart. Oh, the new lighting arrangement seems to be focused more one Mr. Bartow, you will have to center it, tinker with it, other than that, nice!!, have a great weekend, beards are coming along nicely!!😉
I have a couple of bottles of this expression, and I'm glad that the price remains the same as when I bought them. I hope to be able to restock them in the future before they decide to discontinue it, it is a very good buy. Cheers gentlemen. P.S. The Hercule Poirot look goes well for Bart, hahaa
You guys have become one of my go-to whisky reviewers. Ralfy will always remain King, but you guys are def like a couple of Queens. Here's a little Army trivia for: I was in the Infantry for 10 years. The Infantry is "The Queen of Battle", while the Artillery is considered "The King of Battle." The reason for this is that on the chess board, the Queen is the most dangerous amd mobile piece. The King is stationary and represents losing the war if they are captured. I love to tell those Artillery nerds that info.
Here are some whiskies you boys need to review. I think you'll like them .. 1) Port Askaig 100 proof 2) Kilchoman Sanaig 3) elements of Islay peat 4) scallywag winter edition 2021 5) Old Pulteney 14 5) Tamdhu 15 6) Tamdhu batch strength 6 (best one yet) 7) Glen grant 15 8) Dewars 32 9) Old Forester 1920 (ok, so it's a bourbon, shoot me!) 10) Benromch 15 11) And last but not least .. Tomatin Decades ll Dont\t mention it! 😎
Scott pulling the lemon cheesecake 🍰 out of thin air, just makes you appreciate the COVID recovery so much. When I taste things, I'm just lucky to come up with "I like it", "It's tolerable", or "don't like it". Thanks so much!!! 👍👌🤘✌️😎💯%
I must admit gentleman you have my attention on this whiskey. I have passed by many many times and never tried it. Thank you for your recommendation. Cheers!!!
Thats been done for quite some time it was ended years ago with "asyla". Compass box is excellent the orchard house is super good as well the newest offering in core. The problem is prices have crept up like 85$ for story of the spainard. If i paid for packaging it would be acceptable but i dont. The only core that has value is the spice tree the rest are not as good as the single malts they are trying to emulate. Spice tree is better than most highland single malts so thats the star for me hedonism does not really do it for me. But when you take artwork out of equation they fall flat. For example for the price you pay for the spainard you can pick up a glendronach 15 and its worlds better. Your comment about the double single kinda speaks to that. Peat monster is excellent but is it as complex or rich as ardbeg 10, laphroaig 10, talisker 10, bunnahabhain 12 i think not. I was fan boy as well but i think artwork was large part. Glaser is amazing but if i start every blend with 35% clynelish my juice would be good as well without even barreling it.
Sadly this is no longer available. From their website "The compelling combination of whiskies which make Oak Cross so special can unfortunately no longer be sourced. Starting in the USA, it will be discontinued from all markets by the end of 2021" If you see a bottle grab it.
Oak Cross was discontinued in 2021..due to no longer being able to source single malts. Coinciding with Spice Tree changing its formula.. Both used Clynelish and maybe Teaninich and Dalluaine.. Spice tree is now Glen Moray, Tomatin and Balmenach... They finished it with the cross oak and lowered the abv from the 46% Spice Tree.. You can find these in stores that have sold out on their other core releases. I like to keep the old ones on hand unopened. This and my Hedonism are 43%abv...Only 2 I have seen. Cheers gents... A perfect bottle to go grab.
I think I have to rewatch and count how many times Bart says "wow!", and only an 89/90 rating..hmmm. Haha. This seems like a little sleeper of a bottle.

after compass box was sold, and john glaser stepped out of real work, they changed all recepies to cheap stuff now CB is just overpriced trash. so if you want real compass box, hunt for old releases.
Bacardi Issue KO: Another issue that has been questioned was Compass Box’s partnership with Bacardi. Can you please explain your partnership as stakeholders? Is there any part in the business that Bacardi has full control of? JG: Just over five years ago, we took on Bacardi as a minority shareholder in Compass Box. They bought shares from one of my founding strategic shareholders. What Bacardi brought to the table was long-term Scotch whisky supply through their John Dewar & Sons business in Scotland. In terms of the management of our business, nothing changed. We have continued to manage and operate our business autonomously.
Nice review gents! CBOC is a staple in my cabinet; I love it.
Thanks David. Ours too
That was a quality review guys: informative, entertaining, engaging.
Thanks Andy
Hooray! Our local TW has this for $54.00. Nice. Bart is reminding me more and more that he looks like Commander Whitehead and his schweppervescence.
Bam! He is going crazy

Just picked up Orchard House to review.
As per usual in my area, never seen a bottle of it. Shelves have less and less diverse options it seems.
Thanks Scotch Barrel
Good to hear your thoughts on an available, and good blend. Cheers!
Thank you
It’s kinda like a meal

You refer to this bottle a couple of times as a blended whisky but it's actually a blended malt. That makes a big difference in my book.
Yes it does. Blended Malt is a blend of only single malted barley. No other grains.
I must admit gentleman you have my attention on this whiskey. I have passed by many many times and never tried it. Thank you for your recommendation. Cheers!!!

Yep…I thought it would under perform. I hadn’t had this since our first year of filming.
Discontinued ✌️
👍
Was Bart an extra in Rambo or the A-Team?
Stunt double for “Faceman”
I haven't had a bad Compass Box. I've been tempted to pick up another Peat Monster, but the Ardbeg 10 always jumps in the cart.
Same for Bart
