I have a fond memory of meeting Lou, years ago, helping him load a ladder into his SUV at the local Lowes where I worked part time. Such a wonderful spirit and a very kind person.
Cool to hear. I'm a day-one diehard Foreigner fan and I've been fortunate enough to talk briefly to Lou and Mick a handful of times after their shows. He always came across as such a humble, gentle soul and that's also a big part of why the fans love him so much. At one of their shows he remembered me from talking to him backstage after their previous show and his face lit up, smiled and then pointed at me when he came onstage. Later during the show he stuck the mic in my face to sing the chorus during Cold As Ice. It was pretty cool moment for me....love the guy!
Truly one of the best episode, What a huge treat and what a legend and a beautiful soul Lou is ♥️ I have been a Foreigner Fan since the first time I saw them in 1978 at the California Jam 2 in Ontario, California. I was 14 and Going to a concerts is truly magical, especially with Music that is a powerful force that can enter our souls and touch us in ways that are hard to describe and is a endless time capsule of great memories of joy that you can treasure for the rest of your life, also stories you can leave with your children and grandchildren. I have always loved all of Foreigners music and a huge fan of 70s 80s Music. I got to see Foreigner a few weeks ago at the Honda Center in Anaheim, it’s about time they got in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 🎶 they have deserved it a long time ago they Rock!! Thank you Michael for having Lou on your podcast you Rock!!
I just finished listening to this episode and it was delightful. Lou definitely opened up and had so many great stories. I was surprised to hear that it took a long time for Foreigner to be part of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Congratulations on his sobriety. Have a great week everyone!
Listening to this entire now and I am learning so much about Lou. He definitely is a legendary singer and I didn’t realize that he played the drums. He is so down to Earth. Thank you for bringing us such a great podcast week after week.
Wow, Loe Gramm! I was 21 when Midnight Blue came out in 1987 and I LOVED that song, I even had the extended mix on vinyl on those larger 45s. Terrific voice. Thanks Lou, you made very happy, and I'll never forget those times!
The two songs of LG's solo career that I really like and go back to are : 1) Lost In The Shadows from The Lost Boys soundtrack. 2) Just Between You and Me. Overall he's a really underrated solo artist and great voice. 👍
This was fantastic, Michael. I have loved Foreigner from the begiining and Lou is one of my all time favorite singers. Got to see them tour with Kansas back in the late 70s and it was the most fun I had in a long time.
I remember seeing Foreigner live in concert play "Juke Box Hero" at the Meadowlands Arena in New Jersey in like 1979 or 80 I was like 16 or 17 great memories. Thanks Lou Gramm.
Michael, thank you very much for this one! I remember hearing Foreigner for the first time when I was 8-10 years old. I think the tracks were Urgent, Cold as Ice, Double Vision and other masterpieces. Man, that was something completely new for me. My dad used to have an excellent taste in music and he instilled in me this love towards classic rock.
Michael has an amazing voice. This podcast is perfect for him. I so enjoy these videos! Happy to see Lou Gramm on Inside of You. I’d love to see more musicians on here! Thanks Michael this was fantastic!
What a pleasure to listen to an artist talk about his great career, Lou began early and conti ues with fervor, it’s wonderful 😊❤👏👏 !! Great exchange Michael on music that you love so much, thanks for this amazing episode 💙💙💙 !
Foreigner was my first favorite band, and got me into rock music from pop. I kept playing the Foreigner 4 eight track cartridge, and eventually played it on cassette. However it only took about a year, and Def Leppard became my favorite band. I didn’t even know they had the same producer Mutt Lange.
ACDC put it best - "it's a long way to the top if you wanna rock 'n' roll!" Adversity, perseverance, talent, commitment, all the big Character words is what makes people achieve great success.
Thank you for your amazing job! I love to hear stories from the past, which are told by my favorite Rock musicians. He even formed my personality through his creativity. His voice is unmatched in Rock music 🎼🎸 I began to write my own poems at the age of 10, being inspired by his lyric tenor range...
Lou Gramm, the father of all whiskey voices hope he's done some soundbooks. The story of black sheep was quite sad but what a way to turn things around.
There's three musicians who began as drummers who then moved to lead vocalist. Steve Perry, Lou Gramm, and Mike Reno of Loverboy. The above is different from the lead vocalists who also play drums during their concerts, who are: Phil Collins, Don Henley, and Peter Criss.
Michael, we could see you were star struck, but it’s totally understandable. That’s freaking Lou Gramm. Still to this day I listen to Foreigner every week. What a voice.
Amazing voice I love that song I " I Wan tto Know whati Love is" I've gotta take a little time A little time to think things over I better read between the lines In case I need it when I'm older magic song thank you Michael for having it on your program every time I hear that song I cry a lot, it's a very special song 👏

Hell yeah! I just bought the cassette album of Lou's, ready or not. Midnight blue has always been one of my favourite songs, but id never listened to any of the other songs on the album. I'm loving it. Especially the song, Time. It's fantastic. I also just picked up the Lost Boys soundtrack, on cassette also. He features on that. Lost in the shadows.🤟
please listen to the other songs on READY OR NOT. Lou's late father is playing trumpet on SHE'S GOT TO KNOW and his older brother Ben is playing drums on some of the songs too. There is a video to the song READY OR NOT on RUclips it didn't go far because the record company backed off promoting Lous album out of fear that he would leave Foreigner back in 1987. Their loss . 11:17
Keyboard player Jeff Jacobs actually played first with Foreigner when Johnny Edwards was Foreigners vocalist from 1990-92. He's played during Gramm, Edwards and Kelly Hansens tenures in the band.
The Jimi Hendrix story sounds exactly like the beginning of Jukebox hero! One of the best Lou Gramm songs, the best Foreigner song and definitely one of the most rockin rock and roll songs 🎵 👌 ever written Lou!!! W3 LOVE YOU LOU RE3D❤❤❤❤❤❤
This podacst is always good! Sometimes I see the guest and think uh..I don't know who that is or I'm not sure if I'm interested; Then I say to myself, "Well, I'll give it 5 or 10 minutes and see." Nine out of 10 times I end up listening to the whole thing. Rosie is an amazing interviewer, with a great conversational style. 🧡💛💚🩷
Another legend on the couch. What a great personality and a great episode. As a kid my mom made me to listen to a lot of music and Foreigner songs were among them. I really did not know who Lou Gramm was until I was an adult. Lost in the Shadows is a great song that I was only introduced to recently because I never watched The Lost Boys as a kid.
It's still 2 months away, but I can't wait til October 19 when the originals plus Rick officially gets inducted into the RnR HOF along with Frampton & Ozzy.
I just go on hoping for the day he just might decide to teach vocals. He's my biggest influence. What we could learn from him, would be immeasurable. After years of studying his voice, I feel I'd make him proud.

43:18 Because of Olivia Newton John's Physical, Foreigner's Waiting For a Girl Like You broke at record where it spent 10 weeks at Number 2 because Physical was Number 1 for 10 weeks, then Hall & Oates where the ones that finally bumped Physical out of the top spot.

I wouldn't be shocked if Kiss had something to do with Black Sheep getting dropped from their label, Kiss were huge back then and had a lot of pull because opening up for Kiss back then all but guaranteed stardom.

I've met Lou many times and he is an absolute blast. You don't see it often in interviews but he really is a funny guy. Very very humble guy!
Man, Lou Gramm. That's a Rock heavyweight. Thanks for this interview!
One of the most underrated singers in rock and roll. Thank you for this.

Lou is a legend.
Absolutely one of the best interviews. Thank you so much for getting him on your show!!! ❤
The two songs of LG's solo career that I really like and go back to are :
1) Lost In The Shadows from The Lost Boys soundtrack.
2) Just Between You and Me.
Overall he's a really underrated solo artist and great voice. 👍
Exactly my favourites too! So great in Foreigner but Lou could have been famous just on his solo/non-Foreigner work (if only management had supported)
Spot on! True Blue Love, Heartache and Broken Dreams also great.
This was fantastic, Michael. I have loved Foreigner from the begiining and Lou is one of my all time favorite singers. Got to see them tour with Kansas back in the late 70s and it was the most fun I had in a long time.
@@bruceostrom1572 Steve Walsh is another virtuoso level vocalist. I never knew or thought Foreigner and Kansas would be on the same card Bruce.
One of my all-time favorite melodic rock singers 🍺👏👏
I remember seeing Foreigner live in concert play "Juke Box Hero" at the Meadowlands Arena in New Jersey in like 1979 or 80 I was like 16 or 17 great memories. Thanks Lou Gramm.
Lou is a local Rochester NY legend ... great to hear this!!!
Rochester’s own Lou Gramm!

That’s very interesting about interviewing Lou Grand on his first group to foreigner

Absolute bloody Legend of Pop/Rock! You should get some other great vocalists on the show, like Sammy Hagar!
I just noticed your movie posters and love the ones you got up there. Especially escape from new york and thing.

Juke Box Hero was named Song of the Year by longtime rock station WMMR 93.3 FM in Philly.
This is another example of why people hate record labels. Hell, both Foreigner and Boston were turned down by every major label, sometimes twice, before someone had the good sense to sign them.
In an alternate universe Lou Gramm is the big Disney voice Phil Collins became!!❤❤😂😂
Lou
Lou Gramm, Steve Walsh, Steve Perry, Jimi Jamison, Freddie Mercury. They had something in common.
Lou is a national treasure - He did get burned by Mick. I am not sure he gets to that, as I just started this.

Kiss was on Casablanca Records, not Capital Records. lol.
It sucks getting old.
This is the second interview I’ve heard of him saying that. 🤷♂️
Those nasty brain tumors will do that to you!
Lol @ the fart book. When I was a kid I used to draw my own version of MAD magazine. I had bumsmoke from Gunsmoke you can guess how the bad guys were taken out😅 As a drummer I don't blame him for preferring to drum.
Rosey, did you dye your hair or is it natural grey? Either way, it looks good! Loved this interview!
I’m surprised you didn’t ask him about his brain tumour and how that affected him…
I bet those guys from black sheep were really pissed at capital cause they could have had foreigner type success.
Why not mention that he was diagnosed with a benign brain Tumor in 1997 that could have killed him, because it was in the center of his brain. He stated that Mick Jones had zero sympathy for his condition and treated him badly which started a rift between the two which had been building for some time. Mick Jones is all business and is just kinda cold by some accounts and acted like Lou’s condition was trivial so get over it. We need to get on with touring. A little disappointed no mention of One Dream from Highlander or his time in the supergroup Shadow King (That album rocks!)
What was that song you were humming in the beginning sir
🤘🏻⭐️🤘🏻
Kiss was never signed to capital records though. I think he meant casablanca records. Right everybody? Unless it was wicked Lester which was Paul and Gene's first band.
No mention of the reason he left Foreigner... the man had a life changing major brain surgery ! Shocked no mention.
It was a beautiful song but it ran too long
If you want to have a hit
You got to make it fit
So they cut it down to 3:05
