I vividly remember. I saw a post on Imgur of a British comedian talking about how beating your wife was like "keying your own car". Then I did a RUclips search to find out who this Jimmy Carr person was.
I can trace it all back. I was an angry young atheist, saw a debate with Hitchens and Stephen Fry ages ago. So I went after some more Stephen Fry content and found QI. That led me down a rabbit hole of Brit game shows that ended up here.
I do gotta give props to Jimmy. He asked the fortnite kid to explain what it was. No jokes not condescend at all. And gassed him up when he bought his mom a house.
Dara does do well on these, but I was pretty shocked to see how much Maya seemed to be helping him! He hasn't really done enough of these to know for sure but I think he's more of like a Wossy/Brydon/Mitchell/Jupitus/etc... type rather than some kind of Sandi Toksvig-style quiz expert.

As an American I love this show so much. I look forward to watching this every year. I want this to be done in the US by American comedians but I don't know if it would work as well.
They have so many of these shows that I love with just their comedians. Like Cats does Countdown, Would I lie, and this. I wish they would do an American version for all, but I can’t really see it with our comedians. It just works so great with their comedians and their styles.
I don't think it would work the same sadly. Not because Americans wouldn't work in this setup, Chelsea Peretti and Kirsten Schaal adapted brilliantly to the format and were great, but American TV just works different.
