    I've had two home intrusions. One when I was awake, and it took me three seconds to turn, grab my 870, and point to the front door and dissuade the intruder. The second, I was asleep. From the time I heard the crash, to the time I woke up, grabbed my Judge, my glasses, and my flashlight and moved towards the garage was about 5 seconds, and they went by FUCKING QUICK.
    You are not going to have time to do anything fancy, because every second spent arming up, is meters closer they are to you in a small house. Don't put yourself any further behind the gun than you already start.

      I had a late night incident as well. I tell my friends that u may be a bad ass by day, but when u get woken up and it's game on, that's when u find out about your training. Are u a baby, or a hard trained machine with a solid ball bag. Shit gets real when u least expect it.

    I carry all day everyday. Only problem with awareness is sleep. Having notification from cameras that will light up the area of motion as well as select portions of the inside of the home are great. With door barrier alarms you don’t need to watch your phones footage to know that someone is actively trying to enter and you know where the potential breach is coming from. Same with the sounds of broken glass. In any case, my wife grabs the G34 with a red dot and bright light/laser combo, 135g +p Critical Duty, goes to the back of the house to take our son to his bathroom. Lots of walls and ceramic tile. I pick the walkers of the wall next to the bed, the AR9 7” suppressed with 30 rounds 147g HST or 135g +p Critical Duty, depending on the time of year (heavy clothing). Big red dot, irons, sling, bright pad light. I don’t want to use even my suppressed AR15 in the home, much less the shotgun. The point is having barriers of awareness and prevention to provide me an advantage and promote doubt in the mind of the criminal. If someone is undeterred at that point, there’s enough cause in my free state to use proper force. Stay ready y’all. You don’t get to pick the time or place when someone wants to target you.

    Shotguns unlike handguns and most rifles are not drop safe. Yes the safety blocks the trigger, that’s it. If you drop or knock it over the sear could disengage and cause a discharge. That’s how a lot of accidental hunting accidents have happened. Guy goes to relieve himself sets the SG against a tree and the gun slips, falls to the ground and Boom! Cruiser ready for the SG.

    What’s funny is I think as far as operation of the firearm I think I’d be better with a shotgun because I’ve been using them since I was 11 where as I’m 32 and just finally got into ARs at 30 because stupid laws in my state and thank god for the free market becaue they came up with some non permanent stuff that lets me go out of state take it out and run a 100% normal AR in Nevada where in CA, I have install the limiters. In either case, your limiters can FINALLY be removed and your ready to rock and roll when your shooting, out of state.

Very effective, reliable, semi auto so easier to use and less chance of me messing things up short stroking or something lol, and of course 00 buck is known to be a fight stopper, and of course a sling, surefire, and red dot.

    Does anyone train barefoot?
    Put some shoes on.
    For experienced pistoleros, professionals and enthusiasts, pistol is good.
    For the inexperienced, a shoulder weapon gives the reliable accuracy needed with much lower training requirement. Most people wont train or practice enough.
    In shotguns, 20g is good enough, and the youth models are handier esp for smaller people.
    The data on home invasions is skewed. Most are drug dealer business disputes.

    Number 4 buck in 2 3/4 shells was my go-to before I decided an AR was a better option for me (this was before the mini-shells hit the market).
    My biggest concern with the mini-shells is they seem to be more prone to feeding issues. This is hearsay on my part as I haven’t personally messed with them, but I would be interested to hear what experiences you have had with them and if the feeding concerns are just overblown internet speak.

    • @jeffb8437

      The mini shells feed good in shotguns made to cycle them. Or if you convert the follower to one designed for the minis. I converted my mossberg 500 for minis but the mossberg 590s will run them out of the box.

    One of the biggest considerations is what gun you are able to keep at hand.
    A pistol on the nightstand may beat a long gun in the closet or safe. If you have any storage laws to deal with this may change your choice.
    I find pistol/shotgun/rifle to all be perfectly fine choices so long as you have your choice squared away and accessible.

    • @p51mustang24
      @p51mustang24 5 месяцев назад

      A consideration for 9mm ammo: a lot of bonded hollow points are designed to achieve 18-20 inches of penetration, while good non-bonded hollow points tend to be closer to 12-14”, depending on brand.
      Bonded hollow points are better for barrier penetration, but as a civilian certain non-bonded loads can potentially be outright better than law enforcement tailored bonded hollow points.

  • @snoop_lion
    @snoop_lion 5 месяцев назад +1

    Honestly I would say a pistol caliber carbine would be the best. You still don't have to worry about over penetration because it's still 9mm or your choice. Plus you get a 30 round mag that is reliable and Much MUCH easier to shoot something with a brace/stock than a handgun. Especially if this is a just got woken up in the night scenario. I'm not a bad shot with a pistol, but I know that the smallest trigger pull or hand placement or wrist movements can change where the rounds go and that's just at the range with no stress.

    But if you're in tighter quarters like suburban neighborhood then something like a 25mm GAU-12U Equalizer or a GAU-8A Avenger, preferably mounted on some CWIS/Goalkeeper setup

I would run a pump if I had one, but I have and train with my Beretta. It is what it is. Imho one of the best home defense firearms is any full sized handgun chambered in .45 acp. Yeah, yeah, "okay boomer" crap yeah yeah, I'm not even a boomer but w/e. Hear me out. .45 acp is noticeably way quieter than many other calibers, has less flash, is not concussive indoors, and with the right JHPs it is very unlikely to over penetrate. I would advise a Glock 21 or 1911 loaded up with 185 grain jhps. +p or not, that's up to you. The handgun is also amazing for close quarters in that no one is grabbing your gun like they would a shotgun or rifle if you turn a corner. I keep a Glock 21 next to the bed. Tritium night sights, light/laser, and aggressive talon grips for the best grip possible. I keep 3 extra rounds ready to go on deck. Shouldn't need em, but never hurts.

    What is your opinion on lasers with pressure pad on a self defense platform? I like a sighted in laser with a pressure pad on self defense firearms.

    • @unclefreedom213
      @unclefreedom213  2 месяца назад +1

      They have some use but suffer greatly from parallax issues. If you have a tiny gun with suggestions for sights I could see it. but for 99.8 percent of self defenders out there, you can become reliant on the laser and disregard your sights. i would not want to explain that ever in court. but that's mainly handguns on a rifle a good laser aiming module so in the 3 to 5 grand starting point( until someone makes something ultra reliable for cheaper though even peq15s had zero issues sometimes) with a solid parallel zero why not. but at home defense which is CQB distance I would rather have a solid red dot or eotech all day everyday over anything that takes more time

    • @PaulBradley-q7b
      @PaulBradley-q7b 2 месяца назад

      I didn’t think of it that way. I was thinking of it in a close quarters situation while using a pistol for defense. I appreciate and agree with your statement. I was looking for a laser for my wife’s personal defense pistol. She has been training with iron sights. I was looking for a better option for her. I own red dots and as of now she has not trained with one. I should have stated in my previous comment that I like the idea of a laser, since I currently do not own one. Again I appreciate your opinion!

    As an attorney, Id have a field day prosecuting someone who put on ear pro before investigating a bump in the night. I'd say it's clear and convincing evidence you planned to shoot first and ask questions later. If you shot anyone but an intruder, you'd be fucked.
    It's normal behavior to grab a defensive weapon of your scared for your life or safety. It's not normal to put on ear pro.
    A good defense attorney could probably muddy the waters, but the prosecutor could say "why would he put ears on of he wasn't planning on shooting? No reasonable person would do that. He was looking to kill, not defend." And so on.
    Depending on the jury, it could go bad for you. Most jurors, in my experience, are not gun people. Prosecutors would get rid of all gun people if possible.
    Just step outside of yourself and look at the optics. Some dude kills 2 guys and he took time to put on ears before he pulls the trigger. How much danger was he really in when this unarmed burglars got shot of he had time to don protective gear? Why didn't he just call the cops and hide? And so on

    Will a defensive subsonic 300blk round go through walls?

    • @kobudo
      @kobudo 5 месяцев назад +2

      Barrel length, specific grain weight, and the projectile’s ogive, antimony, and other design characteristics will all affect how much penetration through walls you get. But yeah, anything that can stop a human being will generally go through a few sheets of interior wallboard before stopping. That’s why varmint rounds that start crumbling after hitting soft tissue, and similar fancy copper matrix projectiles, are so nice. But they do have to go fast enough to work as designed.
      When in doubt, test your load before betting your life on it. It’s worth finding a range that will allow that type of testing.

    • @Fauxknight
      @Fauxknight 5 месяцев назад +3

      Yes, heavy slow rounds like a .300 sub are barely going to realize you even have walls as they pop through 5 of them headed straight for your neighbors dog. Lighter and faster rounds are hindered more by walls than slow heavy rounds.

    • @GldenRetriever

      @Cant_Stop-Wont-Stop0329 Месяц назад

      Exactly I wish more people understood this, over penetration is a concern but commonly over blown when people should be focusing on accuracy because even if the round does go through an attacker with the proper ammo it won't have enough oomph left to seriously hurt or kill someone.@@GldenRetriever

    And just another quick point for your geniusness, 99% of people have a deadbolt, there isnt anyone thats going to "kick" my door in with one kick like theyre fckin john cena from the marine idc if theyre on crack meth heroin etc Its going to take multiple hits to bust the door frame if theyre even strong enough to accomplish that and even so that generally makes a lotttt of noise and gives you an extra few seconds to grab whatever you need to grab especially if like most people have cameras and can see whos at their front door so really dude stop telling ppl they need to spend hundreds of dollars on shit thats not even realistically needed. Its great to have, but you absolutely DO NOT NEED IT. Red dots are cool but at 5-10 feet in a split second decision ur not even gana use the damn thing and ur adrenaline is gana block out the noise from the firearm just like it does when your out hunting and you get amped cus you finally see a deer. Thats why noooooooo one wears ear pro hunting, usually only at the range cus you dont have that adrenaline going. Please either give people the right info or just stfu
