YES!!!! My mom "introduced" me to Bobby Rydell back when I was a teen doing a report on the 50's/60's! Fell in LOVE w/ his voice! Mom has ALL his 45's in MINT condition, but she still let me play them! LOL! It kills me that his man w/ one THE GREATEST voices of his era is not played or remembered more! And to top it off... what a doll! ;-) Mom met him back in the early 60's and she said he was so nice "to an old married woman!" Ha! She was 23! Love Mr. Rydell!

Oh! Bobby Rydell! "Sway" the very first 45 rpm I bought. I was totally in love with Bobby Rydell. Good souvenirs, thank you.

I think we tend to like the version we grew up on. But when you hear it in it's Latin versions you still can't stop tappin those toes. This song is one of the few songs thats all about the rhythm. Great Great song no matter who is doing it.

Bobby Rydell's back-up singers on this and his other recordings are the same three African-American grandmothers he always used. Great sound with them singing.

"Sway" is the English version of "¿Quién será?", a 1953 mambo song by Mexican composer and bandleader Pablo Beltrán Ruiz. In 1954[citation needed] the English lyrics were written by Norman Gimbel and recorded by Dean Martin (his recording reached number fifteen on the Billboard magazine best-seller chart[1] and number six on the UK chart). Since then the song has been recorded and remixed by many artists (see discography below).

Check out: "Anita Kelsey - Sway (Dark City)" It was cool in that flick.
Thanks for putting this together! I'm partial to the first Rydell version--what a voice! I'm glad the PD did this, but evidently it didn't turn enough profit, so they resorted to stuff like "Don't Cha". Oh well. I can only hope that really good music will win out!
    Thanks again!

"El Consorcio" (they where the original mocedades) redid this in their first recording most recently, dedicated to the people of Cuba but launched in Miami. Also Jennifer Lopez made a great rendition with an afro-cuban beat!

Great job on the history of this wonderful song. I like all versions of it, particularly the ~ 2004 rendition by Michael Buble. The adaptation by Pussy Cat Dolls is also very nice.

I like this four version presentation of this popular song. One of those which has such a nice cha-cha-cha rythm it invites one to dance it with a suitable partner. Have enjoyed hearing and dancing it for a very long time now in fact nearly sixty years.

i have a reissue 45 of rydell's of sway and volare-i like both songs even if,or because of,their 1960 las-vegas-lounge-esque arrangements-btw,here on youtube is a scopitone of this version of sway, and his real name is Riddarelli.

A very good observation to compare the girl harmony on 1960 Rydell Sway with Darin's Nature Boy. It had never occurred to me, but is spot on.

Starting with this one, I discovered your other thematic videos and loved them. Carefully selected versions, depth of knowledge and taste. Result is wonderful videos. I had not heard Rydell's and London's versions. I am glad to have known them now.
However, I would love to learn your assessment on the Rosemary Clooney & Perez Prado version of this tune.

I am originally a New Jersey boy: So here is my take: The Rydell original unlike the more recent version was much better. The latter is full of busy wallpaper. Bobby could have transcended his good original version by using a Charanga orchestra (strings and flute) from the upper west side - not far from his neighborhood - and knocked them dead. Bobby was a gifted, talent with great phrasing.

If you like 'latin music' find an LP or CD by CARERINA VALENTE and her brother SYlVIO FRANCESCO. OLE CATERINA and ARRIBA CATERINA Both originally from 1959 and featuring their 2 voices and 2 ACOUSTIC GUITARS.These are AMAZINGLY talented renditions. No gimmicks or vocal minipulations.Just their own arrangements.LESS IS MORE! I LOVE EM!

@GSilverWorld ...I don't know why anyone would mark it as spam. I heard about him having three African-American grandmothers as back up singers during a radio interview a number of years ago. They are definitely not the Ronettes. Their voices are completely different from the three Ronettes.

Hey this is really interesting. I've just been getting some clues myself that it was The Ronettes. It must have been them too on Bobby Darin's Nature Boy. Let's hear more about this. What's the key to making that kind of harmony?

Although I am a big fan of JLO as an artist . . . but I must say her interpretation of this son is the worst I have heard. She has no color, no emotions, no weight . . . I am surprised to see that from a Latina singer.
