- The longer one of the two very intimate interviews Pierre Adidge & Robert Abel did with Elvis for the 1972 film "Elvis On Tour" - sadly only small snippets were used in the final product.
The exact date or location of this interview isn't known but it was done sometime after Elvis' June tour but before his return to Las Vegas in early August, most likely in Los Angeles around July '72.

I don't think most people realize just how much insight he had into so many subjects. He was so much more than just the image. We didn't just lose the greatest entertainer that has ever lived , but a genuinely humble , sincere person. He never took his fame for granted , or too seriously. He absolutely never forgot where he came from and I think one of the things that really stands out the most and forever will , was his love for his fans ! There will never be another entertainer in a thousand lifetimes that will have the relationship that he has ! When he died , a part of us died with him .

Steve English, I don't know if you saw A Star is Born, but do you think he would have been great in that role? I always try to imagine him portraying John. I can never seem to get there. Kris was so incredible and there was so much chemistry between Barbara and Kris.
Saphire Blue funny you should mention. I have tried to imagine him in that role. Kris K was incredible and had great chemistry with Barbara. I wish Elvis had taken it for his own satisfaction. But would the film had been the success it was? We will never know.

This is the first actual interview of Elvis I have ever heard. The rest of the interviews have always been with the press. It's nice to hear it.

Friday a week ago I went to the Elvis movie for the 3rd time with my daughter here in Auckland NZ. As we were leaving we bumped into an American couple who have been living here 40 years. It turns out the husband was a film editor on the Elvis on Tour film in 1972!

William Abel this was an interview conducted by the director and producer of ‘Elvis on Tour’ 1972. I believe their names were Pierre Aldige and Abel. It can be heard intermittently throughout the first part of the film; subsequently on forums like RUclips. As for this preacher dude with the “uncanny” resemblance visually and sonically to Elvis, how the hell does this stuff propagate and continue to flourish with profusion all these years later? It is beyond my comprehension that people buy this stuff...smh.
I don’t think he ever really had any idea of the true extent of his talent and how amazing and influential his gift was to future generations of musicians and singers. I love that bit in the interview where he says he was not even aware of what his body was doing, the music just took over him. Seems like deep down he was a very shy, spiritual and humble man. Happened to me two months ago, after watching some document in TV. Since then I do listen or watch only Elvis. I am happy, I'm not only one, who fall in love with him. In Czech rep. he was not known very much, do not know why! Maybe because he was so sexy...and simlpy THE BEST.

Something people don't realize, because Colonel Parker kept him so isolated from the public and for that reason, Elvis was able to give few interviews, he really remained that same humble, soft-spoken person he was at the beginning of his career. His on-stage image became so over the top and flashy, that I think people believe Elvis also became gregarious. He didn't. All those around him said he never changed. I think this interview shows that. What a special man. What a loss to us. We love you, Elvis, and miss you

I think it was the 1973 betrayal of Parker, being taken for so much money & assets by Priscilla; his RCA music rights being sold; and then his dad firing Sonny, Red & Dave in 1976. They admitted writing the tell-all revenge book out of anger & bitterness. He died 2 weeks after that book came out & was due to start his summer tour. I heard Elvis was sick with worry abt what he would say if people confronted him about the salacious things in the book. It was the second lowest point in this beautiful man's life, after the death of his mama. Being betrayed by these lifelong boyhood friends he entrusted his life to must have cut him to the bone.
I am sad all that happened. I am glad he and his family are now all together in peace.
So down to earth and humble. Never thought he was better than anyone else. He touched so many with his gospel music.

Actually, he began taking drugs in the 50s (speed) to stay awake while on the road. That progressed to uppers (or Benzadrine) to stay awake while on maneuvers in the Army. By the 1960s, Elvis experimented with harder stuff like Placidyls and by the 1970s he was taking Demerol and Dilaudid and even using liquid cocaine.
Wrong. Elvis started taking stuff to stay awake while touring in the 1950s. And he also then began stealing his mother's medication. Don't believe me? Read "Revelations From The Memphis Mafia" - specifically read what the late Lamar Fike has to say about Elvis's drug usage. I think they know more than we all do.

Towards the end, when he gets so introspective about his disillusionment with Hollywood, it is so personal, that one feels like one is eavesdropping on the most private thoughts of a mythic figure. If you read Guralnik's Careless Love, you learn the incredible serendipity and bravery (on Schiller's part) that went into this incredible document. @ 30:55, we begin to hear about the REGRETS of the biggest star in History, and one is left dumbfounded at the depth of his humanity.
listen to what Elvis says, it was natural for him, didn't know what he did to make the girls scream...not rehearsed, not practiced...just pure raw talent...the thing legends are made of....or as they say now the "IT" factor...
It's cool knowing that Elvis wasn't as isolated or oblivious as some biographers have claimed. I was also surprised to discover that he was as aware of his audience and cared as much as he says here. This interview shows Elvis to be an intelligent, mature adult---not just a talented 'yokel,' as some have claimed. This is very eye-opening; thanks for posting it.

What that picture captures is Elvis walking to the gate at his Hillcrest home to meet a fan who looked like him. One of the guys noticed him and told Elvis he had to come see this guy. Elvis on his way to the gate was holding a pistol behind his back on the way up to see him.

My mom is only 10 years older than Elvis yet she never listened to him. My parents never listened to rock. They were very old fashioned and came here after world War 2. They had all Broadway musical albums. I have always loved Elvis. Forgot to say, I was shocked when I heard Elvis liked Mario Lanza. I just learned that a couple of weeks ago.

It was wonderful to hear Elvis tell his story not Priscilla. You could hear the sincerity in his voice and how humble he was and his laugh. I cried like a baby when he died, I was 19. There will only be one Elvis, he is truly missed. Love you Elvis.

I was also 19 when Elvis died and had tickets to see him again at the Colosseum on Long Island, NY where I’d seen him July, 19, 1975 evening performance. Yes, I also cried.

This was recorded in a dressing room on the MGM lot. It had previously been used by Clark Gable. Elvis was uncomfortable. They began to present old photographs, and loosened up a bit. Eventually discussing his disappointment with his movie career.

I still watch all of Elvis movies so much sometimes I would watch it Over again. I just wish I could have saw him in person. But I was fairly young, and I never had enough money because I had 2 babies by the time I turned 20. And I raised them mostly on my own. But I grew up with Elvis Music and Movies from early sixties. I was born in 1954.
No one understood Elvis he was such a smart man .so much more than just music he had so many talents and dreams.heart of gold.just a amazing person.and still always loved for who he is.

May I suggest that you avail yourself of all the authentic footage. No actor can portray Elvis Presley on any level (talent, charisma, looks, physical size, etc.)

This interview is pure gold. believe it took place in a darkened room for the “Elvis On Tour” film, perhaps over several days. There IS video of some of it somewhere online, I’ve seen it.
The correct date for this is March, 1972. It was recorded late one night, against the Col.'s wishes for the documentary, Elvis On Tour. Only a few snippets were ever used. Nice interview,,,he gave so few of them.

I love hearing him relate how his shows were back in the fifties and the much smaller and simple venues. When I think of the memories some people must have of seeing him back then. How special. The part of your comment that really grabbed my attention was "No pretentiousness". Excellent point. This is something I myself often think about it. And it's something not often recognized about Elvis. In an industry like Hollywood business and Music / Acting industry it's LA LA LA Loaded with pretentiousness ...even most people in the industry know this. Yet Elvis, the most famous person of his era, was well known to be one of the least pretentious people in the industry.
His down-to-earth genuine humility wasn't just an act. He was so legitimate and real that some people in the industry that met him actually gave interviews saying of all the other celebrities they encountered throughout their own careers, Elvis always remained one of the genuinely kindest coolest people they ever had the pleasure of talking with.

The line that really got me was "Hollywood's image of me was wrong". But even the public had their own preconceived notions about Elvis. This interview definitely blows them all out of the water.

this is by far the most honest Elvis interview ive ever heard. Im stunned. I didn't believe that this stuff would of been allowed to be recorded.It says alot about the way he was sometimes poorly managed by the colonel.And about his own feelings about his career.
No one could sing like Elvis. But no one could talk like him either! He had that so special voice no matter ❤️ He had a little problem with stubborn, and it makes his way of talking even more charming and pure Elvis. I was in the middle of a comment when something stopped my tablet. I read this for the first time yesterday. I thought about it all night. I don't usually make comments. However there was a lady that talked about Elvis's use of drugs. We knew. He was a beautiful person with a voice like no other. Elvis didn't invent drugs he just got caught up in them. Just like many others in show business. We loved him enough fo hope and pray he would get help. His love of gospel music was outstanding and no one could ever sing it like him or never will. Every one has the right to their opinions, that's the American. Everyone has demons of there own. Let's get back to having compassion for the faults of others. God gave us Elvis to enjoy his beautiful voice his beautiful smile and a amazing laugh like no other. He took Elvis from us because he knew he needed help thar nobody else could help him.He took him because he knew Elvis was growing tored and weary. He now sings with the Angels and what a beautiful addition to God's choir. Please people we are all brothers and sisters and God's children no matter what our believes or the color of our skin. Elvis has been gone for 43 years please let him rest in peace in the arms of our Saviour and the warmth of his Mother's love once again.

I LOVE listening to Elvis’ gentle voice. I fell in love with his voice before I knew who he was and that was in 1956 when I heard Don’t Be Cruel for the first time on the radio. Loved him so much since and will forever. RIP Elvis you will always be loved and never forgotten!!
Absolutely marvelous to hear this interview in its entirety. It is quite amazing the amount of footage and interviews that there are of Elvis that have not officially been released. I believe there is enough material now that has surfaced to produce a sequel to both the documentary films Elvis made in the 70's and call it Elvis That's The Way It Was. The fans would flock to see a new film about the finest entertainer that has ever lived. Thank you for posting this I have enjoyed listening to every minute of it :-)

I was ten years old when Ep caught my attention, or one can say my eyes , it was 1970 , I saw him for the first time while watching him on the terer he TV , I could not take my eyes of him , I remember asking my mom is this man still alive , realizing that I was watching something that was a little bit older than myself. To be acted it was about fifteen years old I love him than and even more to day ,as l have studied his life I belive there is not much I don't know or hear, if I find something new on him iam there watching and taking it all in he was my first love ,and always will be ,like I say when I saw him with my eyes l realized what the opposite sex was for the first time rest in peace my love

He felt a responsible to his fans but also to all the people who worked for him. He couldn’t have stopped or retired with so many depending on him. It’s a merry go round and you can’t get off the ride. Extremely difficult on his voice, his emotional health and his physical endurance. He gave all he had and then laid his body down.
In swear Elvis' voice is so soothing that it could calm even the most freaked out person in a matter of seconds!
