Hi, are you familiar with the code P1290? I am seeing potentially wastegate actuator or cylinder head temp sensor. I am struggling to find videos on the E84.
The problem is it depends on which device they are using for the tests, I met this new place and he had the latest device for testing and it pointed out directly onto the crankshaft sensor which made sense cause I was also seeing some black smoke from the exhaust. The problem is many of these garages have different devices and most of them don’t really know how to use them. I replaced the vanos, MAF sensor, spark plugs, coils new air filters and the turbo intake which was blown off at boost and the same error kept coming. I would ask around for a good bmw garage and have one guy give you accurate data rather then spending on stuff that could’ve lasted a little longer
Hi, I have a 528i 2016 with a very low milage 15,000, I am having an issue with Oil consumption, I need to add 1 liter of Oil every 750 miles, I am using BMW oil do the service at the dealer shop, Not getting a clear answer from the dealer about the issue.
Thanks for your swift reply. I have checked for outer leak myself & at the dealership, and there is no leak at all. Additionally, I have changed the timing chain guides at the dealership as a preventive maintenance & Seconly to make sure that the there is nothing wrong with the timing. I have checked the oil level once I had the warning massage of low oil level by draining the oil in a levelled container & came out to be true missing one litre, by this I removed my suspicion of Oil level sensor malfunction. I asked one of my friends to drive the car & I tailed him to check of any smoke coming from the tail pipe, some little smoke was coming out once the driver push the paddle to the floor. There is no error codes. Do you think I need to check the vacuum pump & the PCV as a cause for the high oil consumption, or else, Kindly seeking your advice
at the first start after acceleration, when idling, the engine speed drops, after which it runs normally. it has no error codes. engine n20 80000 km. please tell me what it could be ruclips.net/user/shortsDV4LruJmSFM?si=OR4fNC1nH5a4TFzY
A bit late but I had a similar situation that I was chasing for months that progressively worsened over time. Check the charge pipe and intake assembly first before anything else. Use soapy water to identify any potential air bubbles, my boost leak was at the turbo inlet pipe. The entire inlet portion had crumbled and disintegrated. If it isn't that then go down the list. MAF, spark plugs, coils, fuel system (LPFP, HPFP, or clogged injector), cam shaft position (happened this week), VANOS, crank position sensor, or timing chain. In my experience, idle issues on BMWs have generally been an air related issue and less commonly fuel.

If you have an electronic wastegate check if for smooth movement.
Can you please post the link on how to fix it
Fix what exactly? This video is about common problems and component locations?
I have the same project, and wonder where to buy the new parts with good pricing ?
Search online, but you have to decide if you want factory or aftermarket parts.
@@Motorcarnut is aftermarket(eBay) reliable ?
@charlesgarand6191 Depends what you are buying.
@@Motorcarnut according an N20 engine project (crankshaft, piston,..) ?
Critical engine parts like those I would buy OEM but if you want a quick fix and don’t plan on keeping the vehicle that’s another story.
what is a price for timing chain replacement?
This depends on a lot of situations so can’t give accurate quote. Best to have local mechanic look at what’s needs to be done on your specific vehicle
CHECK THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR! My low boost was cause of that after replacing almost everything
Really, that should of thrown a code then.

Good luck. I know Subaru and Toyota have replaced the short block for these issues, will BMW?
Sounds like you have a leak somewhere, no way you can burn that much oil without seeing the blue smoke out of the exhaust

My 2013 bmw series 528i xdrive oil pressure sender leaking I just replaced very easy 160k km
@KevinNguyen-xw9xd Hi Kevin, sorry I didn't get what part did you exactly replaced, were you facing oil consumption issue?

@user-ki8zf1rp1e Good extra info! Never too late!
Thank god I don’t own one of these. How BMW has fallen.
All manufacturers have
