- Episode 301 is an update on the no-longer-a-secret small tire project, my 2018 Lexus LC500. Now that it's at RK Racecraft in Cartersville, Georgia, it's time to get to work. The car was blown completely apart until it was nothing but a shell, some tubing, and an engine. During the process of taking the car apart, all of the carbon fiber inner paneling was removed and a lot of the interior rollcage tubing was removed in preparation for a new design. Stay tuned for more on this awesome car. In the meantime, following along for real-time updates on my social media channels:

When I first saw this car on the interwebs I knew this had "SEMA quality" all over it
compared to this absolute basket of festering buttholes, most mid quality SEMA builds are leaps and bounds better built and thought out.
Happy Father’s Day to Mike and all the other father followers.
And right back at ya!
Happy Father's Day
Cheers and Happy fathers Day, Father's
Can you imagine knowing who built this car initially and the world seeing how bad it was done? Wow, makes you appreciate the time to do things correctly the first time.
Who's was it initially?
Imagine being the one who built it watching this
The car was also built for a different purpose originally. So it’s comparing apples to oranges.
The owner & guy who did all of the shotty work had a falling out over it. It was on fb.
@invisiongarage was it you?
With the way that body is mounted and all the other issues it almost seems like it would be better/faster and probably less expensive to just have them redo the whole chassis. I would worry about what else is wrong that you can’t see. Bad welds etc. That’s said can’t wait to see more!
Finnegans Garage a coffee and a cinnamon roll what a perfect start to Fathers day...Happy Fathers day to everyone.
Sounds like every other project vehicle 😂
I call it the hot rod tango. 3 steps forward, 2 steps back.
I know right…. It’s always perfect (and kinda cheaper) until you re-do absolutely everything then you are in it 1.5x the cost of doing it with a stock car in the first place. I LOVE RACECARS!! 😂🤣😂
The lack of bends in any tubes outside of the funny car cage makes me think it was designed/fabbed by someone else, and then it was put in and the rest of the car was finished by someone else with less experience/tool access - explains the two different weld qualities as well as the bad fit
Possibly... if so, both were complete morons.
This car is pretty neat but the Vette would have been such a cooler build. If you started with a scratch built chassis one would think they may have been able to get you to fit. You can’t get any cooler than a 63 split window.
It's a Sexy looking car that's for sure I think it's unique not really a toyota lover but hey this body looks good. You might even be able to get away with more with this body than a vette. A vette isn't exactly made for drag racing the trans sits in the rear youd be stuffing half the trans in your knee zone
My daily is a 2015 rcf and I feel like James Bond pulling up anywhere in that thing. By far my favorite vehicle Ive owned.
Sick project my man! Cant wait to see it on the road!
So these guys that originally built the car took the "safety third" thing to heart and ran with it!
Seems like a really good body style for a race car.
I love the LC500, Lexus made a work of art as usual.
You mean Toyota
Except that it has that hideous front grill shared by all current Lexus vehicles. 🤮
I'd take the Lexus grill over BMW's any day of the week.
Jeez Mike, I hope you got a good deal on this, the more you dig in, the more you have to completely redo.
Just remember: "All previous owners are idiots". You may think that you do everything perfectly, but the next owner of your car will disagree.
Gonna take a bunch of merch to get this rig rollin. So much for turbos and on to testing.. at least you know itll be right when you get on track..
Merch will help sustain things but I assure you, my dude got that residual Motor Trend money!! lmao
He's had a blessed life but nobody deserves it more!
You know it’s not scripted by Fins awkward ass wandering around asking what he can do trying not to get in homies way but also still try to get some content out of this slow ass process.
Thats what makes it good to watch though, the scripted stuff feels forced & very fake. Dave Chappelle on the dirt head shed has that "awkward" vibe to his videos, but dude is incredibly knowledgeable & makes great content. It makes it feel so much more genuine instead of the fabricated BS
I have an LC and seeing this just makes me feel all kinds of good.
Man, I hope you got a smoking deal on that thing. Basically rebuilding the entire car to make it right.
Not gonna lie was kinda giving the side eye to this project compared to the other builds…. But that’s over I’m all in!!! Gonna be sick!!!!
“Not gonna lie” has to be the dumbest and most overused statement these days.
Alarm goes off:
Finnegan: That's for picking the kids up from camp.
Finnegan: So what do you need me to do now?
😂😂😂😂
I know this fab shop will do it, they look to be very good, but with a few things that have been pointed out, I’d be making sure this chassis is square, get the laser out, freaking laser beams. If it’s not plum it won’t be a nice car to drive. I did see the Noonan branding so it’s going to have some steam. Even more reasons to make sure it’s square.
That's a lot of SEMA build sketchiness in the initial construction.
This is typical of a lot of SEMA builds. They don’t function as advertised.Always have extra eyes and expertise when purchasing project vehicles.
That is a prime example of wasting a whole lot of money letting someone who has no idea how to build a safe racecar. I can't imagine how much money the previous owner must have spent on junk.
The PO had the FBMP listing for 85k as a rolling chassis but I HIGHLY doubt Mike paid anything near that.
@@Hossdelux- We sure hope not. Hopefully Mike or someone Mike trusts inspected the car to verify its shortcomings before writing a check. Another example of why buying any car sight unseen online is never a good idea.
Yeah I was referring to whomever originally put this together. I am sure Mike made a good deal. Just a shame, really. I am not in to that type of car, but I think its going to look pretty damn nice properly done.
Car looks like the classic projects of any kind that their was some serious flaws early on and they just kept trying to compensate for them until they realized they needed to start over again and just give up on it.
If you're going to do drag & drive events, you might want to look at getting a gear vendors OD unit. They will stand up to the HP and make driving on the road so much better.
he's talking about using a T400 with a lock up, the lock up is essentially an OD which works by making the gear ratio 1:1. The GV OD really only works for Power Glides.
@@Badmannered1what? Do you understand what the term overdrive means? It's definitely not 1:1.😅😅
@@Badmannered1 you are wildly incorrect, an overdrive is a ratio taller than 1:1, and a gearvendors works behind any transmission, they are perfect for a t400.
He knows what the GV unit. He has them in other cars.
@@Badmannered1LOL Research, before you open your mouth and embarrass yourself!
They’re such cool looking cars, so I can’t wait to see this finished!
After watching cleetus's new car build on Cj Race cars shop, you really see the difference in how a well designed chassis can contribute to a final car with a great fit and finish youll get this one figured out mike
Happy Father’s Day Mike!
Was just watching the Charger vs Charger Roadkill episode, since Birdsong restored General Mayhem maybe you can get Birdsong to give Death Metal the the "Super Bee ter" treatment
Man , car will be legit once it’s out of the chassis shop .
There's a time and place to shave weight, driver safety is not one of those places, glad that was discovered amongst all the roll cage issues to make this car fast yet safe. Can't wait to see it finished.
What a bodge job. Not sure if the last builders had severe ADD or just tried to slap it together for a quick sale. Good to see you caught all the problems early and are fixing it the right way
so glad to hear and see you taking it to a reputable shop to get it all fixed up and safe
Glad to see more people getting into drag and drive racing! I really enjoy seeing all the different combinations that show up
I guess I was late to the party guessing what the car was but I nailed it. I only watch on motortrend tv which the last episode I saw was when the motor came in and the car was covered with blankets
As much of a cluster as this car was/is, it's going to be a gorgeous and unique car when it's done. Please leather wrap the roll cage for some extra Lexus vibes.
Cant wait to see you run swanstroms lexus pre nup
Whole cars seems like a nightmare 😱
yep the cage could be 4 plus inch's wider its crazy waste of space for the drive you would almost redo the whole thing who know what the alinement of the 4 link bar points are like
Happy Father's Day, Mike!
Wow, that car is good from afar, but far from good! It looks like it was put together as a movie prop! I do have a feeling that it's gonna be pretty rad when it's done, though...✌️❤️🙂🇨🇦
I've heard you say safety third. Maybe this time, you make safety FIRST so that we can have you to amuse us, plus you're a Dad. HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!
Can't wait to see this thing racing!
So excited...so happy your doing this..happy father's day
Hey there Mike I didn't get a chance to finish watching your video yesterday but I want to wish you and Joe a happy Father's Day
I already wanted an LC500 but now i want one even more. albeit a stock one because a tube chassis and an LS isn't really feasible over in the UK
Cheddar gorge with a majestic V8 singing... Idk man.
The lc 500 comes with a 5l v8
Five dumpster’s later. Y’all can make it GoGo Go. This is like Road Kill lots of Junk. I Know Mike will make it Fast 🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁
Mike have you ever heard of a pre-purchase inspection?
You've come a long way, Mr. Finnegan! (You probably hate that but we're the same age so...) You and a few others are on my Must Watch list on the weekends so you're doing something right. Happy Father's Day and...do you get them something today instead of vice-versa? 🤣 HFD to all your crew too!
What a cool looking car!
Finish the Caddy!!!
Yessssss
Not now… but RITE NOW
He said he is. Watch the video
he literally says at the end of the video if you watched it.
I think the body was probably mounted straight, but everything else is skewed.
Good luck, Finnegan.
Happy Father's Day and Good Morning!
wow, that is some clatty work done,
they just put a Lexus Body on top of a Racecar chassis without even trying tae make it fit together correctly.
If I'm not mistaken ye got tae have the Factory Firewall, front framerail/Domes, floors and rear framerail/axlehoop for a street legal Race certified car.
This chassis ye got there is a purpose build drag Chassis ( I don't know how the rules are there for racing) but I doubt ye can register that as a road car.
If it a purpose built race chassis... whoever did it had no damn clue what they were doing.
I love the looks of a Lexus drag car.Justin Swanstrom has a couple at his shop.Prenup and Sir Vincent both built by CJRC.This i by far the coolest body style!Snot Rocket is very fast 100%
Would be a great drag n drive car
Great episode and Happy Father's Day Mike
Good stuff Mike. Like button energized algorithms agitated.
I know it's not what you're used to or doesn't live up to your expectations but this car really wasn't that bad and obviously it was unfinished and they were just mocking stuff up and a lot of it wasn't permanent. It's built better than anything I could probably build.
Cadillac. Absolute coolest car ever.
This is going to be a very expensive redo.
with the way that cage is built and how it fits I swear it was built for a different body . the guy or shop that built it probably got a chance at the Lexus body and decided to use it instead of the body they built the cage for .
Metal floor needed on the driver side..
It's summer. Less cars more boats!!!
This strikes me as he bought a failed youtube build that never was going to run down a track
He definitely isn't holding back the faults of the build.
@@656THOR It's not even that bad. Depends on how many hands were on it, if it's a one man show, that's a lot of work with very little.
@FrequencyOfThought the car is a dumpster fire that is going to cost more to put right than it cost to purchase. Everything but the shell is a disaster. It looks like someone that saw a race car once decided to build it.
@@LuciferMorningstar-wk8quCar to explain more?
@@LuciferMorningstar-wk8qusurely someone with enough money to buy the car could have had enough to finish the build correctly. There is something more.
Tom Bailey 5.99 on drag n drive 🚗! This is going to be a great car. Justin Swanstrom loves the lexus body too!
You should call it the Nexus Lexus as it is meets the definition perfectly: a connection or link between things, persons, or events especially that is or is part of a chain of causation
Whoever built that heap finally realized they had screwed it up so they sold it.Sorry Mike. Happy Father's Day
No the chassis builder fcuked over about 10-12 different customers outta over 600k and bailed to last Vegas and is now in jail …
maybe you got the mark up vision of the tubes
Mock?
Seems like it would've been cheaper to build your own lexus
You need to think about if you're going to be running drag & drive the rear tires 90% of the drivers are running 2 set of tires one set when there racing and another set if there driving for one track to another an it is raining you need to carry the other set. Like Steve Morris he runs a set of 35" tires mud tires to help with Traction an helps with his Is gear racial so he not running a high rpm on the roads. Tom Bailey dose the same thing to.I have been thinking about getting back into racing again mess it so much. When I raced before I was only one with no legs with NHRA LICENSE. I wish the drag & drive was going on we I was drag racing. Its so awesome .
built to look good i don't think they ever intended to go fast
I'm probably wrong on this but I'm thinking it might have been more affordable just to buy a used one of these cars that wasn't modified and then add your own parts to it
Exactly! This initial build was a shit show. Mike must have got it for dirt cheap due to this.
You’re right.
RK Racecraft damn sure as good as it gets considering thats where Ryan Martin Murder Nova and even Steavie Fast Jackson get their cars worked on you can't get no better!!!!!
Its going to take a lot of work ... I would love to see you driving this after making her a 6.40 build .
i can't wait until the day you get to race cleetus in that car
That car is the grift that keeps on grifting, it feels like. The more you guys dig into it, the more there is that needs to be redone. Now we know why the original owner got rid of it.
Is that a chad Ace engine from New Zealand?
Lots of work to make that somewhat comfy to drive on the street. Gonna be a killer sled when done though. The thing hardly weighs anything as it is.
now cut out 90% of the rest of the tubing, and do it right.
You play an expensive game that can go south on you VERY quickly.
Apparently fin Egan has never heard of swapping to street tires for the street or gear vendors overdrive.
When you see all that other stuff done wrong, how do you have any faith in the chassis or welds?
Happy fathers day
That cage is going to have to be completely redone period!
Oh look, the Lexus LC is no longer blurred
Keep adding projects 10 years from now we might see you finish one lol
I see the OG shadow owner back there looking at that top secret KTR ride 👀👀
Technology has mad it possible to run 6's on a 235 size tire just crazy
Since it started off life with a DOHC 5.0L V8 I think it would be quite fitting if you stayed with that philosophy by going with a Coyote from FFRE.
Like tavarish but with race cars
Happy Fathers day to all of you out there
Indeed, you can pull Toyotas apart with 8,10,12,14,17,19mm. 21 or 22 for the wheels.
Yes you might not use a 13 much, but they're interchangeable for 1/2" most of the time, so you kind of have
Justin Swansboro will have carbon mounds for that car ...
CJRC built his 2 Lexus cars
Cletus and many others are going with light and big power. Can’t wait to see y’all lineup
Cleetus is not running drag and drive with the Camaro.
you should have seen Kevin smith (ksr) roll cage design very tight to the car no gaps Bild the cage to fit the car instead of building a cage and thowing a car on a cage
Man after seeing all the issues with the lack of quality of work I don't know how you trust that the basics of the chaos are correct, thing looks like a death trap
that thing was a death trap. the fact the previous owner lied to you, Mike, makes me think you should call him and demand some money back.
I was watching your jet boat videos this morning and I just saw your boat pull up out here at the river pulling into hidden valley. Or a boat that looks identical to yours with the same trailer.
Just let me know when I can come pick up my Datsun 👍
Im throwing down a challenge Mike, let see if you can make the caddy run and drive before the Lexus Is done!! Happy Fathers day brother!
Not a chance. That Caddy will probably take another five years.
@@AB-80X it was a joke
It looks a little warm in that shop
