I think things like that only happen when you have no idea what you are doing. One of the first sweaters I successfully knitted at about 15 was for my boyfriend. It was stranded knitting which I had no idea was supposed to be hard for a newby and I had never heard about gauge. Low and behold I not only finished the sweater with no drama, it actually fit him and he liked it. I also had never heard of the boyfriend sweater curse so, of course, we went on to be married. Beginners luck!
That's awesome! If you dont know what you can't do, you can literally do ANYTHING. I've had a few of those happenings over the years. Really neat to hear about someone else just easily doing something that should be very hard.

This is my beginners luck...I think in knitting it means to don't think so hard, relax, and you'd be surprised. I decided to learn to knit socks. I learned by RUclips. I began with double points, using 4 needles instead of 5. That is what the. RUclips I chose said. I picked it right up, and knitted half of a cuff. No problem. BUT THEN! I saw where one could knit with circular needles. What's That? said my curious mind. So, I tried it, and finished a sock (yep, whole sock by RUclips) and away I went with circulars and lotsa socks following, with double points stuffed at the back of my mind. I could always use them later, right? Uh.. No. I have not been successful with it since. I have tried a few times, but hard thinking gets in the way. So, I go skulking back to circular. I know I should just stick with it some time..😁
I have a chronic illness too and i spend most of my time working on fiber art. It makes my days feel productive. I love that short sleeve sweater you made, its definitely my style.
Oh my… taking the stress off from the Advent boxes is the best thing you can do for yourself this year ( and maybe next) . Such a huge project! Take care of yourself first.
One hundred percent agree!!! When we come to realize that anything does not have a long term continuum, then we appreciate that “whatever “ far more. Jillian’s presence is far more vital and important than the creation of boxes. Were they amazzzing? Yes! I've never been able to get 2 bobbins to end together. It just never happens. As for watching the ferns, maybe you were actually watching fairies. They do like to hide in leaves!! My kids built little fairy houses to make it easier to find them.

My question: I started (spindle) spinning 2 weeks ago, and your videos have been tremendously helpful, as well as lovely to watch. I have combed top in my stash as that is the easiest available around here, and I've mostly been spinning by working on a single staple length at a time. When I try to spin from a longer bit, it gets all messy and tangled. How is one supposed to manage longer pieces of fiber, not just supply wise, but also in how you spin from the longer pieces?

I have spun off and on for many years on an older Ashford Traditional and become fairly competent with it. I love spinning though and my husband decided to encourage that love by buying me an Ashford KIWI3. In essence I went from spinning strictly with 1 peddle to now having 2 peddles and I can't seem to not over-spin everything I do on the Kiwi. I do have it set to the longest/slowest spin. Any advice you may have for fixing this I would greatly appreciate.

I had not heard of CA Red til recently, it is one of of our 2 breed challenges for our county fair. I am reading that book right now too, The Fabric of Civilization. Just an idea for your socks (once finished) to have them as a reminder of how far you've come since the hospital. I had a stroke a year ago, and a couple days after I got home I was determined to cast on a pair of socks to make sure that I could still knit. (seems silly now, but that's what I was concerned with at the time) so these socks took the whole year to finish. I won't wear them, and I call them my " stroke socks" I found a brain progress keeper to hang on them and put them on sock blockers and hung them on the wall. They now remind me how far I've come since then.
I had started watching this, but as it does, stuff happened and I had to step away for a bit. (small kids!🤷) Anyway, just finished watching today. We love you and want you to be well! The pressures of vlogmas is A LOT to put on anyone even when they're at 100%! Idk about everyone else, but I absolutely LOVED the stories last vlogmas! Loved this podcast! And good for you in making the decision to look after yourself (vlogmas boxes). As as plus sized senior woman with chronic health concerns (ie prednisone, so plus sized it is) I now buy almost all my clothes at thrift stores. It's such a thrill to find a lovely old linen or cotton top, and although they don;t always fit perfectly, some can be adjusted using needle and thread. I loved your fashion show, demonstrating other fun ways to enjoy these not-quite-perfect treasures. I spin exclusively with spindles, mostly supported, and am always on the lookout for new-to-me-makers. So my question is, how do you find the makers of the fascinating spindles you share on your videos?

For spinning questions, this might be a really easy answer of "No" but I'm curious: Would you recommend different fiber types for practicing drafting on a spindle vs. a wheel? I feel fairly confident about my drafting skills with my spindles, but translating that to a wheel has been difficult. It's possibly because my spindle drafting features my patented "T-rex claw" technique that involves me holding my fiber vertically above the spindle in the same way I feel that a T-rex would (I do not have any archeological findings to back this up, it is speculation), and that doesn't work when trying to draft horizontally in front of a wheel. I'd like to practice with the easiest fiber because I'd love to be able to spin on a wheel! And I feel like knowing that I'm using the right fiber to figure out my technique would help. I'd also love some close up shots on how you hold your fiber to draft while spinning with a wheel because I'm a visual learner! Sincerely, Definitely NOT a T-rex trying to spin fiber, I promise
I'm working on a natural dye project so I'm weighing my wool, 0.5 oz per skein. Some skeins come out at 60 ends on a 2 yard skein, most come out 24 ends on a 2 yard skein. Silly sheep.

Lovely podcast and I wish I had watched it before the Zoom chat. But I was busy....anyway, I really enjoyed watching the Blogmas podcasts this past Christmas season, but I had not ordered the boxes. What I loved was watching you spin and listening to your stories. So that does it for me! I often thought what a huge amount of work it took to put all those boxes together. I would prefer more podcasts.
I had a one time spin happen where I divided the braid and the colors matched perfectly when I 2plied it. Haven been able to do this again without chain plying. I always love your videos. Question when using the dancing goat heddle do you use a Backstrap, rigid heddle, or Ingle loom. I have one like that and would love to know if all are possible. I do own all 3 types.

Since finding your channel, I've gone back and watched many of the vlogmass videos-- they're lovely and such a treat. But you have to take care of yourself. Be kind to yourself and do what you can. I got my first spindle, which is a support spindle, and I am finding it so hard to know how to spin the BFL not too tight or too loose. I also can't keep the spindle going for any length of time and feel like my toddler at moments. If you could give some tips, that would be amazing.
I actually just read a Gay romance fantasy novel and the protagonist is a fiber artist witch from a big family of fiber artists witches (who've all died before the book begins). It's called A Little Blessing by R. Cooper. It was a little too slow for me in the romance part but the fiber parts were nice to read.
I read that one too, loved the fiber parts of it as well. There is a series by Amy Lane called the Granby Knitting Series that is gay romance with fiber arts.

I am still learning how to scour my own fleece and it is a learning process. I remember when I first started washing it I was worried that it wasn't clean enough and if I had felted it. The one thing that I learn is that I prefer to let it soak overnight or over time changing water every day. I am going to be talking and spinning at Breakfast on the Farm in my area as to bring awareness to the Wool Side of Producers. I don't like crochet with cotton but I love wool. I started working on this one project when my beloved Cat of 19 years passed away and I was struggling to get it done so I put it away and haven't touched it since.

Very interested in hearing more about that cotton/linen blend yarn and summer applications :) I was working on crocheting a baby blanket (I think my first?) while going through grief, I think it was actually a really good thing to have given away... the kid's off to college now so, it's been many blankets since then. Ugh, having to say "no" because of our own health or abilities feels so like being weak, but it takes a lot of strength. I vote for the lavender cardigan with the pink dress, because I can't wear either colour myself!! Question: When you're the type that wants to know and be able to execute the whole chain of events, how do you get started when you want to go from farm all the way through all the processing steps to eventually get to clothing?

Regarding the shawl is it too late to go up one needle size? Look at the socks as a friend who was there with you through tough times in hospital and part of the healing process. Look after yourself first. Dont feel guilty in not being able to fulfil your craft commitments. Love the interview with Amanda as scouring is one of the rabbit holes I went down. In still mentally struggling with spinning consistently even fibre and its a stumbling block to getting back into spinning. I have a problem that needs solving. Im wanting to use 8ply stash for knitting socks for hubby but the 100% wool ends up felting. Dont like processed unnatural fibre. But is there a nylon to knit with the wool to give some elasticity. Or would adding alpacca yarn solve the felting problem? What was your camel problem? As I have some in my stash to spin. Should it be blended with wool?
I love this podcast format! The production is so good and charming! For the question: I love a good woolen spin, and have started looking at drum carders to be able to do more than my hand cards (and physical body) will allow. But I am afraid of limiting myself with the carding cloth options. I like working with fine wool and blending from indie-dyed top, but I also really enjoy down and primitive fleeces. I want to make sure I won't ruin any of these lovely fibers, but it's quite the investment, and I know I might not be able to service all my needs...or will I? I'm struggling to find guidance on this question! Thank you.

How do you count tredles and how do you measure the fiber that goes onto the bobbin? How often do you check if you're still at the right wpi or anything similar? I love your videos no matter what format they happen to be in. I always learn so much and your bubbly demeanor makes it fun. In answer to your question of the day, as a new spinner (on a spindle..I don't have the resources to get a spinning wheel yet) I struggle with drafting to achieve a consistent yarn. Most of the spinning videos I have found just kind of say "draft out some fiber" and they make it look so simple. I am not finding it as simple as the videos make it look. Can you go into more detail on how to draft and troubleshoot common problems new spinners face when drafting? I don't have a local yarn store near me and do not know anyone in my area who spins so the entirety of my learning has been videos.

I love when you talk about the reasoning behind not wanting to pick up that sock. I understand and totally agree with what you've said. I actually have a very similar issue and it is also a pair of unfinished socks. I had a family member pass on right around when I was knitting them and while the second sock is actually almost done I just cant seem to finish it. I will do as you suggested and find something comforting to listen to while I push myself to see if I can finish it.
Regarding the socks. I was working on a pair of socks when my mother died. It does bring that time to mind whenever I wear them. But I try to honor the socks by appreciating their role in helping me deal with things. I knit so much worry into them that one sock is way smaller than the other.
I have a beginner spinner spinning question I'm hoping you can answer! I recently spun my first yarn, knowing that consistency would come with time I spun up an extra single and plied together my very first ball of thick n thin yarn. From other research and watching other spinners I've learned that a lot of people use niddy noddys to hank/skien the yarn before washing and setting to secure their ply. I currently don't have the budget to buy a niddy noddy and I'm wondering how else I can do this so I can get it set and ready to knit with? The back of a wooden chair can work as a niddy noddy. Another option (that's not too expensive) is to make one from pvc pipe and t connectors from a hardware store. I think there are some dyi videos on how to make one here on RUclips. Hope this or the previous response helps you.
talking about new: from a walk with my partner on the side of the canal, we met a beautiful brown and black German Shepperd friendly and playful dog with a Viking name. I noticed some fluffs on the grass and we both started to pick it up. When we met the playful animal and chatted with his owner sat on the bank aside of his narrow boat. Today I processed spun and washed the yarn from the fluff on one of my spindle drop. I have now a ball of fine single yarn from this lovely animal, reminder of that sunny walk with my lovely man meeting and playing with this fantastic animal. Memory of a good time,
While I'm sad about the calender, I absolutely understand the need to cut down; this kind of thing is stressful enough without chronic illness thrown in the mix, especially one with unpredictable ups and downs. Still looking forward to vlogmas❤️ I might have a book recommendation, but I need to finish it first before I can pitch it properly. Hopefully this kicks me into picking it up again and I can recc it next time. Also, I'm not much of a knitter so I can't really chime in on the technical aspects of that shawl, but I think it can be wonderful if the thickness is embraced too? It could make a really warm and comfortable shawl-slash-blanket hybrid, stylish enough to wear out in winter and cozy enough to keep wrapped around one's shoulders for both warmth and the squish comfort factor. Something that can be worn in social situations where more conspicuous comfort items would get more attention, you know? It really is stunning in terms of colour and texture.

I too bought support spindles from several different spindles makers. But I'm having a very hard time making yarn on them. Well, not usable yarn, as for socks, shawls or mittens. Please let me see a few approaches that will give me options to try out in spinning on the support spindle. Thank you.
I usually have my leader thread in a loop (on spindle or bobbin) so that I can open the loop, tuck the end of my fibre through then start spinning (making sure to get a decent amount of twist in the leader before I start drafting). I hope this helps!
That's why I love my little Turkish spindle. To start it I just hand draft a length, and lightly twist it on my leg, then when I insert the stick I add the end of the length so it's trapped in, twist it up a little more, half hitch it and away I go

Oh my gosh, I was thinking about how nice and strange it feels to run out of bobbin thread at the end of a seam, the idea of running out of top thread AND bobbin thread at the same time??? I've been sewing professionally for over a decade and that has NEVER happened to me! Giving myself permission to use stuff from my stash for things that AREN'T what I "meant" them for has made it so much easier to actually start things! Just started learning to spin with some beautiful alpaca roving I bought years ago for a doll project. I bought like a pound, WHY was I hanging on to ALL of it when I know I wanted to learn to spin??? Now I have lots of uneven yarn that I spun myself AND I got to touch the super soft alpaca wool I bought. Also this is such a good format of video to watch while doing my own crafts! Covid-safe crafting circle feels.

I feel you so much with the chronic illness and hospital thing. It happened to me, I was knitting an handpsun cowl while I was hospitalized and I couldn’t finish it once at home. I took the time and also something that helped is that I put a row of another totally different and contrasting yarn in it, just like the japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold, it helped me repair my relationship with this project and acknowledge my grief. I send you strength! 😊
Regarding the sock, is it going to be a lone sock or have you already made the first one? I am someone who's currently working on a sock - it just hopped onto the needles after I'd finally got hold of DPNs in the old British size 13 = 2.25 mm, it's not the easiest size to find. I'm also using up left-over sock yarn - we wouldn't want it to go to waste, would we?
My question, as a brand new drop spindle spinner: I’m still trying to wrap my head around all the different drafting methods for drop spindle and I’m still really struggling to find one that I’m really comfortable with. Maybe it’s just that I’m not well practiced enough for it to feel very confident, but maybe I haven’t tried the drafting method that will be right for me. I’m still parking and drafting, but struggling with my fiber control.

One hundred percent agree!!! When we come to realize that anything does not have a long term continuum, then we appreciate that “whatever “ far more. Jillian’s presence is far more vital and important than the creation of boxes. Were they amazzzing? Yes! I've never been able to get 2 bobbins to end together. It just never happens. As for watching the ferns, maybe you were actually watching fairies. They do like to hide in leaves!! My kids built little fairy houses to make it easier to find them.

My question: I started (spindle) spinning 2 weeks ago, and your videos have been tremendously helpful, as well as lovely to watch. I have combed top in my stash as that is the easiest available around here, and I've mostly been spinning by working on a single staple length at a time. When I try to spin from a longer bit, it gets all messy and tangled. How is one supposed to manage longer pieces of fiber, not just supply wise, but also in how you spin from the longer pieces?

Jillian, I really enjoyed this podcast. Thank you! I do maybe have a question you can help with. I have spun off and on for many years on an older Ashford Traditional and become fairly competent with it. I love spinning though and my husband decided to encourage that love by buying me an Ashford KIWI3. In essence I went from spinning strictly with 1 peddle to now having 2 peddles and I can't seem to not over-spin everything I do on the Kiwi. I do have it set to the longest/slowest spin. Any advice you may have for fixing this I would greatly appreciate.

Whenever I spin for socks, the singles break while plying. Is this normal? Is there any way to prevent it?
Just an idea for your socks (once finished) to have them as a reminder of how far you've come since the hospital. I had a stroke a year ago, and a couple days after I got home I was determined to cast on a pair of socks to make sure that I could still knit. (seems silly now, but that's what I was concerned with at the time) so these socks took the whole year to finish. I won't wear them, and I call them my " stroke socks" I found a brain progress keeper to hang on them and put them on sock blockers and hung them on the wall. They now remind me how far I've come since then.

Loved this podcast! And good for you in making the decision to look after yourself (vlogmas boxes). As as plus sized senior woman with chronic health concerns (ie prednisone, so plus sized it is) I now buy almost all my clothes at thrift stores. It's such a thrill to find a lovely old linen or cotton top, and although they don;t always fit perfectly, some can be adjusted using needle and thread. I loved your fashion show, demonstrating other fun ways to enjoy these not-quite-perfect treasures. I spin exclusively with spindles, mostly supported, and am always on the lookout for new-to-me-makers. So my question is, how do you find the makers of the fascinating spindles you share on your videos?

For spinning questions, this might be a really easy answer of "No" but I'm curious: Would you recommend different fiber types for practicing drafting on a spindle vs. a wheel? I feel fairly confident about my drafting skills with my spindles, but translating that to a wheel has been difficult. It's possibly because my spindle drafting features my patented "T-rex claw" technique that involves me holding my fiber vertically above the spindle in the same way I feel that a T-rex would (I do not have any archeological findings to back this up, it is speculation), and that doesn't work when trying to draft horizontally in front of a wheel. I'd like to practice with the easiest fiber because I'd love to be able to spin on a wheel! And I feel like knowing that I'm using the right fiber to figure out my technique would help. I'd also love some close up shots on how you hold your fiber to draft while spinning with a wheel because I'm a visual learner!

I'm working on a natural dye project so I'm weighing my wool, 0.5 oz per skein. Some skeins come out at 60 ends on a 2 yard skein, most come out 24 ends on a 2 yard skein. Silly sheep.

Lovely podcast and I wish I had watched it before the Zoom chat. But I was busy....anyway, I really enjoyed watching the Blogmas podcasts this past Christmas season, but I had not ordered the boxes. What I loved was watching you spin and listening to your stories. So that does it for me! I often thought what a huge amount of work it took to put all those boxes together. I would prefer more podcasts.
I had a one time spin happen where I divided the braid and the colors matched perfectly when I 2plied it. Haven been able to do this again without chain plying. I always love your videos. Question when using the dancing goat heddle do you use a Backstrap, rigid heddle, or Ingle loom. I have one like that and would love to know if all are possible. I do own all 3 types.

Since finding your channel, I've gone back and watched many of the vlogmass videos-- they're lovely and such a treat. But you have to take care of yourself. Be kind to yourself and do what you can. I got my first spindle, which is a support spindle, and I am finding it so hard to know how to spin the BFL not too tight or too loose. I also can't keep the spindle going for any length of time and feel like my toddler at moments. If you could give some tips, that would be amazing.
I actually just read a Gay romance fantasy novel and the protagonist is a fiber artist witch from a big family of fiber artists witches (who've all died before the book begins). It's called A Little Blessing by R. Cooper. It was a little too slow for me in the romance part but the fiber parts were nice to read.
I read that one too, loved the fiber parts of it as well. There is a series by Amy Lane called the Granby Knitting Series that is gay romance with fiber arts.

I am still learning how to scour my own fleece and it is a learning process. I remember when I first started washing it I was worried that it wasn't clean enough and if I had felted it. The one thing that I learn is that I prefer to let it soak overnight or over time changing water every day. I am going to be talking and spinning at Breakfast on the Farm in my area as to bring awareness to the Wool Side of Producers. I don't like crochet with cotton but I love wool. I started working on this one project when my beloved Cat of 19 years passed away and I was struggling to get it done so I put it away and haven't touched it since.
I’d love to know more about that book ‘Embody’ if you could find a minute or two in the next podcast.

I was working on crocheting a baby blanket (I think my first?) while going through grief, I think it was actually a really good thing to have given away... the kid's off to college now so, it's been many blankets since then.
Ugh, having to say "no" because of our own health or abilities feels so like being weak, but it takes a lot of strength.
I vote for the lavender cardigan with the pink dress, because I can't wear either colour myself!!
Question: When you're the type that wants to know and be able to execute the whole chain of events, how do you get started when you want to go from farm all the way through all the processing steps to eventually get to clothing?

Regarding the shawl is it too late to go up one needle size? Look at the socks as a friend who was there with you through tough times in hospital and part of the healing process. Look after yourself first. Dont feel guilty in not being able to fulfil your craft commitments. Love the interview with Amanda as scouring is one of the rabbit holes I went down. In still mentally struggling with spinning consistently even fibre and its a stumbling block to getting back into spinning. I have a problem that needs solving. Im wanting to use 8ply stash for knitting socks for hubby but the 100% wool ends up felting. Dont like processed unnatural fibre. But is there a nylon to knit with the wool to give some elasticity. Or would adding alpacca yarn solve the felting problem? What was your camel problem? As I have some in my stash to spin. Should it be blended with wool?

For the question: I love a good woolen spin, and have started looking at drum carders to be able to do more than my hand cards (and physical body) will allow. But I am afraid of limiting myself with the carding cloth options. I like working with fine wool and blending from indie-dyed top, but I also really enjoy down and primitive fleeces. I want to make sure I won't ruin any of these lovely fibers, but it's quite the investment, and I know I might not be able to service all my needs...or will I? I'm struggling to find guidance on this question! Thank you.

My fiber related question is about spinning consistently. How do you count tredles and how do you measure the fiber that goes onto the bobbin? How often do you check if you're still at the right wpi or anything similar? Maybe the question is how do you go from intuitive spinner to technical spinner to get not only good but consistent yarn? 😅

I love your videos no matter what format they happen to be in. I always learn so much and your bubbly demeanor makes it fun. In answer to your question of the day, as a new spinner (on a spindle..I don't have the resources to get a spinning wheel yet) I struggle with drafting to achieve a consistent yarn. Most of the spinning videos I have found just kind of say "draft out some fiber" and they make it look so simple. I am not finding it as simple as the videos make it look. Can you go into more detail on how to draft and troubleshoot common problems new spinners face when drafting? I don't have a local yarn store near me and do not know anyone in my area who spins so the entirety of my learning has been videos.

I love when you talk about the reasoning behind not wanting to pick up that sock. I understand and totally agree with what you've said. I actually have a very similar issue and it is also a pair of unfinished socks. I had a family member pass on right around when I was knitting them and while the second sock is actually almost done I just cant seem to finish it. I will do as you suggested and find something comforting to listen to while I push myself to see if I can finish it.
Regarding the socks. I was working on a pair of socks when my mother died. It does bring that time to mind whenever I wear them. But I try to honor the socks by appreciating their role in helping me deal with things. I knit so much worry into them that one sock is way smaller than the other.

I have a beginner spinner spinning question I'm hoping you can answer! I recently spun my first yarn, knowing that consistency would come with time I spun up an extra single and plied together my very first ball of thick n thin yarn. From other research and watching other spinners I've learned that a lot of people use niddy noddys to hank/skien the yarn before washing and setting to secure their ply. I currently don't have the budget to buy a niddy noddy and I'm wondering how else I can do this so I can get it set and ready to knit with? Huge thank you for your time and consideration even if it's not answered in the next video
You can use your arm (or someone elses) as a niddy noddy. It can be a bit tricky to tie the skien before taking of your own arm.
The back of a wooden chair can work as a niddy noddy. Another option (that's not too expensive) is to make one from pvc pipe and t connectors from a hardware store. I think there are some dyi videos on how to make one here on RUclips. Hope this or the previous response helps you.

talking about new: from a walk with my partner on the side of the canal, we met a beautiful brown and black German Shepperd friendly and playful dog with a Viking name. I noticed some fluffs on the grass and we both started to pick it up. When we met the playful animal and chatted with his owner sat on the bank aside of his narrow boat. Today I processed spun and washed the yarn from the fluff on one of my spindle drop. I have now a ball of fine single yarn from this lovely animal, reminder of that sunny walk with my lovely man meeting and playing with this fantastic animal. Memory of a good time,

Also, I'm not much of a knitter so I can't really chime in on the technical aspects of that shawl, but I think it can be wonderful if the thickness is embraced too? It could make a really warm and comfortable shawl-slash-blanket hybrid, stylish enough to wear out in winter and cozy enough to keep wrapped around one's shoulders for both warmth and the squish comfort factor. Something that can be worn in social situations where more conspicuous comfort items would get more attention, you know? It really is stunning in terms of colour and texture.

I too bought support spindles from several different spindles makers. But I'm having a very hard time making yarn on them. Well, not usable yarn, as for socks, shawls or mittens.
Please let me see a few approaches that will give me options to try out in spinning on the support spindle.

I usually have my leader thread in a loop (on spindle or bobbin) so that I can open the loop, tuck the end of my fibre through then start spinning (making sure to get a decent amount of twist in the leader before I start drafting).

That's why I love my little Turkish spindle. To start it I just hand draft a length, and lightly twist it on my leg, then when I insert the stick I add the end of the length so it's trapped in, twist it up a little more, half hitch it and away I go

Oh my gosh, I was thinking about how nice and strange it feels to run out of bobbin thread at the end of a seam, the idea of running out of top thread AND bobbin thread at the same time??? I've been sewing professionally for over a decade and that has NEVER happened to me!
Giving myself permission to use stuff from my stash for things that AREN'T what I "meant" them for has made it so much easier to actually start things! Just started learning to spin with some beautiful alpaca roving I bought years ago for a doll project. I bought like a pound, WHY was I hanging on to ALL of it when I know I wanted to learn to spin??? Now I have lots of uneven yarn that I spun myself AND I got to touch the super soft alpaca wool I bought.
Also this is such a good format of video to watch while doing my own crafts! Covid-safe crafting circle feels.

I feel you so much with the chronic illness and hospital thing. It happened to me, I was knitting an handpsun cowl while I was hospitalized and I couldn’t finish it once at home. I took the time and also something that helped is that I put a row of another totally different and contrasting yarn in it, just like the japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold, it helped me repair my relationship with this project and acknowledge my grief. I send you strength! 😊
Regarding the sock, is it going to be a lone sock or have you already made the first one?
I am someone who's currently working on a sock - it just hopped onto the needles after I'd finally got hold of DPNs in the old British size 13 = 2.25 mm, it's not the easiest size to find. I'm also using up left-over sock yarn - we wouldn't want it to go to waste, would we?
My question, as a brand new drop spindle spinner: I’m still trying to wrap my head around all the different drafting methods for drop spindle and I’m still really struggling to find one that I’m really comfortable with. Maybe it’s just that I’m not well practiced enough for it to feel very confident, but maybe I haven’t tried the drafting method that will be right for me. I’m still parking and drafting, but struggling with my fiber control.
