Hell yeah. Just put together a build on a 7040. Gtx 1060 6gb, i7 6700, 16gb ram, dedicated SSD boot drive and m.2 SSD for games. I plan to use it through 2024 and beyond at 1080p/60. Loads games bout as fast as a PS5. Runs Elden Ring max settings, 1080p at 45-50fps Only case mod I had to do was to cut a hole in the swing out part for the 6pin power on the gpu. Added a intake fan to the front grille.
Thanks! I'd like to get better at it, but I just don't do it enough. Thanks for checking out the video, and this system is definitely still viable in 2023.
Awesome video! Was looking for content on Dell 7040 as It is the first Desktop I've had and I was excited about upgrading to a 1650 or 1660ti. But I had concerns about the PSU as it is only 240W. Did you upgrade your PSU? or is it the stock 240W? and if so, how's the GPU holding up?, Any stability issues?
Unfortunately, I sold this system, so I can't answer any long term questions. I think a 1650 or 1650 Super is good on the stock PSU, but the 1660 line is probably too much for the stock PSU. Thanks for the positive feedback, I really appreciate it!
At least I’m not the only one out there using Redux’s as case fans I was told I was stupid to swap my Dell oem fans to noctua I have 3 1700rpm P12 Redux’s and an A12x25 on my 120mm rad my thermals are better than ever ppl just don’t understand that quality fans even if there a lower rpm will do a better job my Dell oem fans barely sucked any air through the front intake now you can feel the fans pulling really hard and everything even my GPU stays cooler I have an Aurora R14 5900X, 32gb 3600mhz XMP ram, 3080 Ti, 1TB M.2 etc… idle temp is now 30C and I have cores turboing up to 5.1ghz on there own with no OC most core run at either 4.89ghz or 4.77ghz but I have 2-3 that will hit 5.1ghz now before I swapped fans fastest I saw was 4.77ghz
I was looking to try something like this, but the power supply is only rated for 240 watts right? I didnt think a 1650 super could run on that little of power?
It's fine. With the i5 and gaming with an 1650 Super, it will probably stay in the 170-180 watt range. If you're gaming for 8 hours a day, I'd probably suggest an upgrade, though. :)
I have the same PC and for some reason my PCH is getting very hot. Its running at 55c under no load and cranks up to over 85c when running Second Life. Any ideas on how to cool it? Maybe a stick on heat sink?
Hi, I have a Dell optiplex 7060 and it's pretty much the same dimensions as this one, different specs tho, will mine be compatible with a gtx 1650 single fan edition by zotac OC??
This case looks similar to the 7050 I am upgrading. Will these mods work the same? Also looking for a cpu cooler for an I9, and psu upgrade. I see the 7070 has optional 360 watt PSU, but so far no luck with a part number or finding one for sale. I have an EVGA GTX 1650 Super that will be my 1st upgrade, and a sata to 6 pin adapter.
@@Quinsterrr The 1650 super worked great, but I ended up using a 3060 in there for about 6 months. It draws more than 1650 and burned the MB. Atter replacing 2 PSUs I realized MB was the issue and found a used one on ebay and rebuilt it. I can run the 3060 again, but I lowered peak power draw on it and turned it speed down some. I also added some more airflow in the front on the case
Interesting. I just got a T5810 and it has intake fans but strangely no exhaust. Might have to rig something up and see if it makes a difference after I can actually get my hands on a GPU.
Yes, the socket is a standard CPU socket, but you'd have to use the Dell standoffs and the way the case is designed pretty much eliminates any tower coolers. A lower profile CPU upgrade is an option.
Hello, I would like to know if there will be a significant difference in performance if I install Samsung 970 Evo Plus or WD Black SN750 instead of Western Digital SN550? My device: Optiplex 7040 Core i7 6700
Not really. Unless you are moving large single files, you probably won't notice a difference between the WD Blue and the WD Black/Evo Plus. The SN550 is my go to for budget builds, but the SN750 is my go to for performance/value. If it's close in price, it may be worth the upgrade. Thanks for watching!
Graphics cards are pretty much impossible to get for a decent price. I think the best thing to do is get a card that isn't any good for cryptocurrency mining that can game a little and wait it out. Something like an Nvidia GTX 1050 or 1050 Ti or an AMD RX 5300(which are just oem, but can be found used). Good luck and thanks for watching!
When the 3060 comes out, it will probably be too much card for this PC. You'd need a faster processor, the sixth gen i7 that is the most powerful that can go in this would probably bottleneck it pretty severely. Thanks for checking out the video, I may still do a PSU upgrade on a 3040.
EscoTech tq so much bro dell 7040 mini tower new way to upgrade psu without any modification simple and sweet way to use any psu with cable management also

Nice man, how much was it in total?
Using a system similar to this in 2023. Love the attention to detail you have with splicing wires, I do the exact same thing.

intro was perfect!!
I was happy with how it turned out, especially since it was my first attempt at filming and editing something like that. Thanks for watching!
nice Fincher transitions!
Haha, thanks! I was mostly playing around, but I was happy with them.

Old vid but you can run 7volts by running yellow as positive and red as negative. It's worth it. No noise but better speed.
That's awesome, I knew the 5v trick, but never knew 7v was an option. Thanks for watching!

will the 1650 super work with the stock psu for dell 7040?
Yep, my previous video shows how I did it: ruclips.net/video/KdOBPuCvgoQ/видео.html
I have power usage included there, too. Thanks for watching!

can u change the actual CPU cooler?
Yes, the socket is a standard CPU socket, but you'd have to use the Dell standoffs and the way the case is designed pretty much eliminates any tower coolers. A lower profile CPU upgrade is an option.
Bro, is that enough 240w for any Kind of Gtx 1650???
Yes, but the 1650 Super lineup all needs external power, so you either need an adapter or a PSU with a PCI-E six pin power connector.

@@EscoTech My system has HDD of 2.5” 7200 RPM 1TB x 2 Nos. Is it mandatory to remove the HDD to cope with power supply for 1650 super?
i did the same mods but i also drilled some holes in the top and put a 90mm slim noctua fan. Really dropped the temps.
Yeah, some more exhaust would have helped my build a ton. Thanks for checking out the video!
Is 90mm fan fit in the top?
what is maximum height tolerance for the cpu cooler?
That's what I wanna know bruh
