Hey everyone, instead of the normal devlogs I put together this short summary of how I got into gamedev. I hope this is interesting and if you haven't already, consider subscribing :) The next video will be a normal devlog again.
How’s your day?
I love it :) thanks for sharing Codeer!
:)
Codeer can I have a monkey pls
this is the moste intrestting video yet becous i also want to learne coding but don't realy know how to start i mean i can make smal 2d games scratch but you know that's not that advanste so wich me luck to find time between my homme work for school and i am folowing angeneering in school so programing is the second thing i do for hobby my first go to hobby is making stuff and know i am making a sword prety usles but cool
As a software engineer I'm doing everything the exact oposite way you are :D The code being the easy part and graphics being the hard part... You are really artistically talented, love to follow your devlogs!
I'm even getting sad, a well-coded game is almost nothing compared to a beautiful graphics/animations game, my weakness is also the graphics part.
They are both equally hard to me but I guess it's because I am a beginner yet
Pixel art an low poly 3d isn't difficult to learn, but you need to put effort
@@jeymo1913 Low poly 3d is the easiest type of art. You just need reference image and a cube
@@technoo4891 I disagree, some of my favorite games are also some of the most well-coded, like Doom and Quake (with engines developed by John Carmack)
I love this game concept, and the minimalistic art style is amazing.

Your progress over the years is astounding. This new game you've been working on looks amazing and is just the sort of game I would love to play. I hope you keep at it.
Hey Codeer, I wanted to thank you because your game dev series has kind of done to me what Swords 'N Magic and Stuff did to you, since I have started watching you I have focused a lot more on world design. I have especially worked on mimicking a similar grass effect like yours, because yours looks so good, and making lots of trees and rocks to scatter and add variety to any worlds I make. Cheers!
That's Actually Quite Cool to Know how it all got into Developing games

That's awesome. Looks like it was a long journey but you've learned a lot! I'm currently on about my 15th overly-ambitious, doomed project but I hope I can finish something decent soon.
relatable
I highly recommend the newest videos over on Gamermaker's Toolkit~ Those might give you a nudge in the right direction. It's not a bad thing to have a lot of ideas and explore them, but investing the right amount of time on prototypes and what to focus on are vital parts of finding a project you might wanna stick with.
6 years and the same generic boring ideas pretending they are new by using uber effects.
I'm so glad you found your game! One of the hardest part of making games today is making it interesting and if it's never done before, as some players sees something done before bland or a copycat while it's not really the developer's intention. I will continue to follow your devlogs!
Hey, Add a bunny. The bunny cannot be killed, it just hops around, and exists. It would be fun to see people try and kill a bunny that cant die or attack.
But like make it seem like its taking damage to trick players to think it can be killed
Make bunny have 1k health so people know it can be killed but just takes a really long time
Ur game is so cool! You should make a video about how you named your shooter game. I would enjoy it, because you can’t keep calling it a shooter game!
Thanks! Hahah yeah I should probably name it sometime soon.

Super inspiring, I'm about a year and a half into my learning and it makes me feel a lot better about abandoning projects.
My brother has been getting into Unity and is already making pretty cool projects. Seeing him, and these kinds of videos, makes me get an interest in it as well, but idk.
Go for it, even if it's just to try it out
Do it
try unity and other engines
i reccomend godot for 2d cause its free and fairly simple compared to other engines
and it uses a python like programming language making it very easy to read code
It’s crazy to see how far you’ve come. And very inspirational as well. Thank you for sharing!
Amazing how much history and experience goes into what looks like a relatively simple game. You make it look so easy, but it’s so much more than meets the eye
Thank you! that's definitely one of the reasons for making this video, to kind of show all the stuff that I'm not really talking about in the devlogs :)
I've been struggling to get anywhere with my project. I'm glad you haven't given up and I love the asthetic and ideas you have for your current project. Don't give up!
your story is very inspiring and to see how you have greatly improved over time also gives me some hope. i honestly think great thinks await you in this carrear path
Your insects are soooo beautifull and smooth :o I'm in love of their animations ! Congrats !
This is very inspiring :) Cant wait to play Your game. I stayed on this channel, because it looked fresh, like nothing Ive seen before. Not many games use procedural animations and this seems to be just pure fun and calm game at the same time (maybe im wrong), but it for sure does inspire me a lot - not to make the same, but to try making something new and to not give up :) So thank You
Geez man I think I favorited all your posts in reddit in the last years. Excellent work!
You are an amazing person, you have accomplished a lot in only 5 years! Congrats and keep working on your shooter I wanna play it when it releases
6 years, that's incredible! Loved hearing about how you started, think it's quite interesting to see how you love for drawing/modelling got you into making games :)
Thank you Saul! glad you liked it :)

@@pepelefrog1121 do I hear jealous sounds here?!
@@benjaminspijker6771 could sound like that....yesterday my brother and I tried that last Aliens game....we only lasted 5 minutes before being done with it and insted played Vendetta.
No, its not jelly: its the truth. There are even templates in Unity and UE 5 to do that. Thats why the quality of games are trash. But again, millennials and zoomers know no quality.
Very cool. I also have a very meandering background. But neat to see where others have been and what they can do now. I've been following your game for awhile now, excited for it to come out. Cheers
Congratulations on all the hard work. Great to see you confidently took small steps. I can code so I spent far too much time trying to get far too ambitious projects completed that would never be finished.
Great video! I gotta say watching you make all these games is kinda inspiring me to get into game design myself
Thanks! Awesome to hear, best of luck!
Really excited for this video love your channel btw!
That procedural animations look so cleaaan. New sub over here!
You inspired me and your project looks very impressive and unique 😁love to follow your devlogs!
this is an amazing video
I finally get some insight on your journey which frankly is inspiring
Hi Codeer, really inspiring stuff! Your game is honestly my most anticipated out of all the youtube indie devs (next would defiantly be Miziziziz's game). Keep up the good work and cant wait to wishlist the current project!
p.s. would love a procedural animation tutorial from scratch your very talented at that skill
The amount of talent you have in animation is breathtaking. I look forward to seeing your work in the future
I really like the current character and game concepts a lot. The hero climbing everything like a spider is great and the camera does a great job of framing the action.
I just want to appreciate the amount of effort you've put into making actual projects. I often find myself just fiddling around with ideas in my head and not making any project myself. I feel that has been a limiting factor in my learning. But this video has been super inspirational.
I have been wanting to make my own devlog series but I was not able to stick to a project long enough. Till now, I have been wanting to make devlogs and work on a small project for a timeline of 3 months. And just finish a full game.
Any tips to just stick to it?
Thanks! Yeah I also find it super hard to stick to a project for a longer period of time tbh. Making videos really helps me stay motivated and stick to the same project :) And if you're really not into the project, at least if it's only been 1-2 months I don't think switching to something else is that bad.
This is pretty amazing! I've been meaning to get into game development since I do game design and these types have been helping a lot with motivating me and stuff!
ok so when i realised the game wasn't out yet i directly liked and follow because i really want you to get that motivation and get your amazing work done
Really appreciate. This shows how it take time and hard work to build a skill. All the best
Keep up the good work! :)
Absolutely loved seeing some of the old insect designs, super cool stuff!
Thank you!
Love watching evolutionary transformation from just atarting out to where you are now. Can't wait to see whats next
Love your videos man. Your game looks really cool. Looking forward to seeing you complete it!
Actually, Some time when I try to build a game and I break it when I see other developers who is better then me and cannot do any thing and that make me feel more lower But when I saw your video its like starting start from nothing but will go after soon, Thx you might be my Star who always glow up and make me to work hard again.!
not surprised with 6 years you are very talented :)
This is so cool bro. You’ve come long way . Really amazing stuffs you have developed. I really like the game design you did and visuals of your game you achieved inside unity .
Bro it’s cool to see this because i really suck at sticking to projects but I love game development, but at the same time I don’t want to wait and learn how to do everything (really bad I know) so this is kinda inspiring because the art style you use is similar to what I want to do as well and it opens my eyes to the possibilities if I just stick to it and try to keep learning
I know this might sound a bit sad, but I'm SO happy for you that your Dad took an active interest in your hobbies/interests and suggested Blender, to help you advance your skills! It brought a happy tear to my eye...
That was also my favourite moment of this video. incredible.

Hi, your new game is very cool! Can you please answer: do you use some assets for controller or gameplay mechanics? Do you use built in render pipeline or Scriptable for graphics in your game?
Half a year ago I started learning game building in Unity because I wanted to learn something new and finally be able to change my job for a better one. After watching your video, I can see that it takes a tremendous amount of time to reach a level similar to what you have achieved. When I come back from work, I have a few hours to learn building games in Unity. Unfortunately, I do not always have the time and strength to sit down to the computer for next few hours after a full day of work. At the current rate of my self-development, it will take me 10 years or longer to reach your level. I will not quit my job because I just need money to live. And at this point, a question pops up in my head. How did you find so much time to learn? I don't know, maybe I'm just not capable enough to make computer games.
Hi! You have a very interesting story) similar to mine) After 4 months, how has your life changed? Any progress in that direction? Would appreciate a reply)
I'd say game dev is usually a group thing, so it's not out of ordinary to see people like you who would be exhausted trying to learn everything. If you can find some equally ambitious friends (2-3 people is enough to make something decent) and spread out the workload a bit, you'll see the result much faster, and sometimes you'll be able to learn from them too.
I remember seeing this project on reddit. Great idea, good luck finishing!
Im getting into game dev myself and watching this made me even more anticipated to start, thank you!
Hi bro love the videos how do you keep the editing so smooth and clean?
Thank you! I'm using Davinci Resolve, I don't really have any specific editing tips haha, tbh it's mostly just putting the clips and matching them with the audio :)
@@Codeer ok:)
Damn you stole my story 😂 I also enjoyed 3D stuff back then and came across blender... Then I made dozens of games in BGE as I knew nothing about coding and the node system was kinda convenient... But then I wanted to develop games for android and spent some time on trying to export the game to Android... Actually there's a blender player for Android... Unfortunately it was pretty trashy, so I quickly got into Unity and started coding for the first time... Then, about 5 years ago, I published my first android game on the play store, got disappointingly few downloads but I haven't stopped developing new games in unity... :)
your procedural animation demos look very awesome, your game needs such stuff
Game designer here! I felt the same… heck, still feel the same about coding, I’m more specialized in level designing, but I remember seeing clips from your game long back on various platforms Crazy finally running into your videos on RUclips! Great work man, I love the risk of rain, style you went for. Looks great! And love the procedural animation!
Hey, what is the game called?😅
I just love it when the notification pops up "someone liked your comment" or "you got a new subscribers" it makes me happy
I remember subscribing when you were at like 5k. I cant believe you reached 100k already. keep up with the great job!
That music visualizer is amazing xdx it looks sick
Love your ideas for games man. Truly an inspiring video
Thanks for sharing your learning path, it is really inspiring. i've just started my learning path myself, I'm good at coding but my art really sucks, I have some game ideas but watching your video makes me understand better that I'd probably won't be able to do a great game overnight, getting good at game making will take time 😀
This video is so interesting. Your game at the mo looks cool! You have an eye for it. Im writing my first game in Gamemaker. Im getting so far. It was such a mountain at first. I will move it into VR next and Unity

congratulations on the project! I'm not a developer and I don't work in the digital market, but as a player, the game's graphics and proposal are amazing.
This is ganna be a great journey of mine as a gamedev in the future thanks for sharing your short story.❤
I just love that you do your work on a surface book (I used to work for surface). Makes all the work we did worth it when someone uses them to make great stuff
Microsoft Surface? It is damn amazing! I had one in my previous job, and it was so well made honestly I like the tablet more than Ipad.
