I'm assuming you have tried the hardware reset procedure that's detailed in the manual. I could possibly reset it by editing the EEPROM manually but that would require you to send it to me since I would have to desolder the chip.
Yes, just make sure to power down the system when replacing it. There's no special configuration or anything on this panel that needs to be changed, just a matter of getting a new keypad and wiring it in.
