  • Corrocoat has been providing cost effective anti corrosion methods, materials and engineering rehabilitation expertise for over 30 years and enjoys a proven track record in solving corrosion-related problems throughout industry, operating across five continents from more than thirty locations worldwide.
This video is one of a series of Technical Videos we are producing to inform our customers and colleagues about various technical aspects of protective coatings. This particular video is on the subject of Cathodic Disbondment Testing.
Cathodic Disbondment Testing is just one of the tests indicating the performance of a protective coating. Its where a coating disbonds due to a cathode reaction at a damage site through the coating to the substrate. This disbonding occurs by generation of hydroxyl ions which raises ph at the coating substrate interface and causes the coating to disbond.
This is often important in many applications because, not only are many corrosion protected items safeguarded by cathodic protection as well as coatings, but the ability of a coating to resist cathodic disbondment also indicates performance in other areas, such as a adhesion and moisture vapour transmission.
