This cat is friendly...what do I think I would congratulate him on? Of course I'm going because I wouldn't be able to start an old truck like this myself, congratulations man.

That's totally bad ass brother. I love these will it start video's. It's cool as hell seeing these old trucks come back to life. As a 4th generation truck driver i can truly appreciate these old trucks. Thanks again for sharing this.
I was always told not to use ether in my diesel engine because just a small amount will dry out the cylinders lower compression thereby making it harder to start and can cause damage to the cylinder walls. All I ever used was WD-40 it always works and no damage but it's your truck.
Yeah my old grader is the old cat pony motor so I give the can a tap I mean a tap and it sill start but I agree with you that much ether is very hard on a motor
Yep 4 6 volt batteries and positive ground on the old Mack's. You can't even get 6 volt batteries at the Mack dealer anymore. Few years ago a person I used to haul for sent one of his employees to the Mack dealer to buy new batteries and they gave him 4 12 volt batteries instead of 6 volt batteries boy you should have heard that RD turn over. You'll want to get a throttle return spring on the fuel pump because the motor will run away on you if you don't.
I’m pretty sure they quit making those batteries about 10 years ago they just use 12 volts anymore . I was in the Battery and auto electrical business for 20 years .
This would be another great project to hack up, throw a bunch of glitter on it then loose interest and move on after promising everyone you are going to fully restore it. Also make sure not to touch the engine or important mechanicals till the very last episode when you ask the viewers to vote on finishing the project or starting something else. This part is key.
Either or you can get a soaked rag with gas and have the engine sniff it and it'll run on gas fumes my dad did that on an old Detroit 60 series and the truck hasn't started for 5 years so he remove the charge pipe that connects to the turbo or from the intercooler onto the intake and got a rag that was soaking Gas just made make sure you squeeze out the the excess gas and then have someone in the truck to start it and have it sniffed the gas into the intake just be careful because it could also backfire through the intake oh and it's because he didn't not have starter fluid to start the truck
We had one backfire on a 7.3, the dude spraying the ether looked like a cartoon character soot faced. Luckily he missed the plastic intake box shrapnel as it exploded :)
Used to live in FL and understands the loss of Mack, especially the good cab models which are offset DM model which come super six maxidyne with a maxitorque mack 8 or 12 sp transmission. When does daddy get to drive his luv truck ?
I just imagine what my dad would’ve done to me if he’d seen me feeding an engine an entire can of ether 😂
He started it with either but used spray lube to keep it running. It was not straight ether
WD-40 is far easier on diesel engines and will work just fine.
