Andrew, recently i have gone into a deep depression that was hard to get out of. One day it just hit me and i couldn't get out of bed. Sometimes i tried but i realized that if i do get out of bed nothing will happen. For a while my friends tried to help me but nothing seemed to work. Eventually even the medication i was using didn't seem to work. It was a long lonely road but you really helped me get out of it. One morning my friend came over and started streaming your meme reviews to the TV. It was so bad i had to get out of bed to turn my TV off. Thank you Andrew for helping me get through a rut in my life. :)
2:25 If I'm not mistaken, it's not that the star is directly killed by iron, but that it either A. Exhausts so much energy creating iron, or B. Exhausts so much energy trying to fuse iron. And then that results in it's death.
I have a mathematical physics class in 15 mins and also need to take a bath. Instead of panicking, I am watching this 14 mins long video. People, be like me.
Probably because you were too uneducated to understand that the pi is just the name we have given to a Greek letter. So really, it is perfectly valid for the Greek symbol of pi to equal 5 in the same sense theta = 4, alpha = 6, x = 2 or y = -69 because pi is just a letter.
I'm pretty sure that when a star begins to fuse iron, the process of fusing is an endothermic reaction, whereas nuclear fusion of hydrogen, helium, carbon, oxygen, neon, magnesium, and silicon are all exothermic reactions... so when a star runs out of everything but iron, it supernovas, or not...depending on the mass of the star, but supernovae are the popular assumption because they're more interesting lmao
Iron is the first element that starts absorbing more energy in the process of fusion than is actually radiated. More elements can still be fused but the star has a relatively small time to live after fusing element 26.
@@AndrewDotsonvideos ayyyy I have a question if you'll answer? I just got an acceptance letter in my email for admission into George Mason for Physics. Is it a pretty good school for undergrad physics? I was also accepted into my dream school in Ireland (university college Dublin). Both schools are the same price but GMU offers the chance to be cheaper after my first year. (If I work for a year and file for Virginia residency.) Any advice for choosing which school to attend? Any advice in general?
Well apparently in the past there has been drama with my high school physics textbook because in one of the questions you had to assume you were a boy who dropped rocks down a overpass on a highway to hit the cars (our teacher told us so after we found a sticker with a new problem on our textbooks, but you could see the old one anyways)

Hey Andrew, you're smart, I needz the help. I am conflicted in my educational career, I don't know whether to follow math, engineering, or physics! I love dem numbers and prob solving and the like, and I am so so interested in understanding this universe we live in on some meaningful level. What suggestions do you have for things I should think about as I apply for colleges and continue on my path? I will be a senior in high school in the fall by the way. Thanks for the awesome videos--you're pretty funny and insightful--so keep it up, man.
Hey Andrew, I am a Senior in high school and I really like physics (astrophysics, quantum etc). I am thinking about majoring in physics when I go to college but I have a few questions. 1) what jobs can you get with a degree in physics, like, is it a profitable career i.e. finding a job and getting paid vs looking for a job with no luck. 2). where did you go to school? 3) what should I look for in physics programs at schools? I would really appreciate your feedback.
Andrew Dotson → Andrew dotted with a son → Andrew • son → Andrew Son cos (x)

You forgot to define x
Engineers be like cos(x)=1 so Andrew Dotson= Andrew son

Iron does kinda kill the star. Imagine coming to a state where you start swimming around in your own piss as it slowly suffocates you :p
