Thank you very much for this video. Much clearer than the manual

Thank you for explaining how to determine that the chain is tensioned correctly, i.e., not too loose and not too tight.

I can get the new chain on the bar but I can’t seem to tighten the tension on the knob turning it clockwise…once I get the cover back on knob

This might be the second chainsaw sitting on my porch without a chain. I cannot get the damned thing back on. The black cover will not go back on correctly. It worked great until the chain popped off. Now i can’t get it back on no matter what I do.

One small detail not mentioned here: when you put the bar back on the platform, there is a little thing that sticks up on the tension adjustment screw that HAS to be seated in the bar hole labeled for it. With the bar off, turn the tension dial and you will see it move up and down on the long black screw. That little black piece that moves must be seated in the hole on the bar when you put the cover back on. You will find the bar sits unevenly if that stick up part on the long screw is not in the small round hole. Turn the tension screw with the cover off so that the part that sticks up proud of the screw moves till it fits into the hole, and then the bar will lay flat . All other directions are the same. The cover BTW has to go in tension screw end first-- there are 2 small tabs that slot into the main housing of the chain saw and you'll have to fritz with it a bit to get them back in, but put the back end in first and wiggle: don't try putting in the upper edge and jamming the lower edge in. There's another tab on the lower side that won't engage unless you put the cover in end first and then it should settle into place. Now that you have the stick up part on the screw in the hole of the bar, the tension dial should work. Hope this helps-- I don't know the right names for these things, pretty sure they have better names than I came up with.

I need one of these for the 40v polesaw too, there is no tension knob to tighten the chain

The printed instruction manual is a diaster. The graphics too small to see, numbers referring to parts are wwrong, and it never makes clear -- like the video doesn't -- that for the tightening dial to work, the holding block nub needs to be in the small hole on the saw.

Thank you!!! I had no idea there was a "holding block nub." How could you leave this out of the instructions??

I just bought a 40V 12-inch chainsaw and it doesn't look like this. The chain guard has two nuts to unscrew to remove it and the chain tensioner takes a screwdriver to tighten or loosen.
