A tip for keeping the soil attached to the roots of module grown plants is not to water them a couple of days before, let them dry out slightly and the roots will hang on to the soil when taken from the module. I love Beechgrove- a really good gardening programme. I also love it when Adam Frost presents Gardener's World. His programmes are full of useful information and so gardening focussed, unlike Monty Don's. I know they say that rainwater can contain pathogens but to be honest in 50 years of growing I have never experienced a problem with using water butt water. I always sow my peas and beans into individual 7 or 9 cm pots. peas 3 to a pot beans 1 or2. They seem to do well planted out from those pots. You need deep rich soil and plenty of water to grow good caulis. Hope that hlps. As the curds begin to grow, fold the leaves ober the heads to keep them white and non yellow- the sun causes that to happen so the leaves act as a sunshade. In my experience the wind only blows blossom away when it was redy to drop anyway. I m sure\ your trees have\ been pollinate\d fine, no worries. fabulous amount of sowing today. Well done! Newts eat tadpoles, maybe that's why you haven't many tadpoles this year. Can't wait to build my wildlife pond. Just need to find the time, lol! Always so much to do. It is usually 1st and 2nd earlies that are determinate and the maincrop are indeterminate. Hope that helps. some old net curtain or mesh or even fleece would keep your brassicas safe. Yummy blueberries, how lovely. Be sure tso always keep it moist. In their natural habitat they grow in very wet ground. I am noticing lots of ladybirds in my area this year. Is it the same where you live? Happy gardening. 🙂

The slugs and snailswould be laughing at you for thinking that they can’t climb up to get your plants on the staging. 🐌

Hi Jake, lovely to hear that blackbird think it was serenading you while you sowed your seeds. I have just sown some Zinnia seeds. I had trouble growing carrots too, so I got quite a deep pot and filled with compost and just scattered the seed on top then covered with some plastic sheeting and kept the pot in my greenhouse. My carrots have just germinated, didnt take very long to do so. Love your videos always look forward to them.

The bird song this time of years is something else right! And I think you might be right. Every morning him and the robin sing their little tunes.
Oooo, good shout with the carrots. I think I done that the first year I had a plot and they worked great!
And thank you Linda, I'm glad you like them! Means a lot to hear it.
I hope you're having a lovely April, we had a beautiful weekend! 😊🌱💚

We struggled with cauliflower, so gave it up instead for kale, I'm yet to kill kale! Really like the look of those straw flowers, I look forward to seeing how they do.

Yeah, the strawflowrd are great! You cam dry them out and use them for cards and decorating which is pretty cool!
Hope you've had a lovely weekend mate! 🌱💚😊

Ooooo. Sounds like you're getting busy too. I've never grown swedes before, so maybe I need to look into it!

I found baby slugs within the soil of my plants. They are notorious that way. I put a ribbon of copper just to see if it would deflect them. Jury is still out on that one.

They seem to get everywhere don't they! They're clever little insects because they always seem to win no matter what I do. I've got to the point where I just sow more and more so that I have some for me and some for the slugs! I won't use those pellets after watching a video of a poor hedgehog that ate them 😞 it's all about increasing other animals like frogs, hedgehogs, toads and birds to eat them up! It seems to be working slowly, just not in the polyhouse 😅 Hope you've had a lovely weekend! 😊💚🌱

That looked like a fruitful day. I was also attempting to sow in the wind today, I was sowing hearting lettuce and peppermint chard along with spinach and 3 different beetroot varieties. Also sowed Zinnias, I’m growing Forecast which is a mix of bright colours and Zahara Starlight Rose which is a white and pink variety. Also sowed mixed Scabious flowers and Cosmos. I’m hoping to have vases full of flowers this Summer 🤞🏻Loved seeing that bee fly near the end, I spotted one on my violets the other day. Have a good week 🪻🪻🪻

Hey Nicki 👋🏽 oooo, sounds like you had a busy day in the garden! All my zinnias have popped up, but sadly no strawflowers just yet. I've found some wild scabious growing in the tall grass near where I park my car, so I don't dare cut it back at the moment. I might leave a strip for the nature, but those pesky slugs seem to hide in it!
I do love those little fly bees. I get sooo many this time of year, they just dart about too fast for me to get them on film! I hope you've had a lovely weekend Nicki 💚🌱😊

@@pots-and-petals Lucky you with scabious, hopefully you can get some seed from it later in the year and sow it in your wildlife area. I think I remember watching someone who grows strawflowers and she said that the seed has to be really fresh to be viable. You always wonder how long it takes these seed companies to process and package their seeds so whether that is a factor. I’ve never grown them myself but remembered I got a small pack of seeds sent free in an order last year so I might sprinkle them about and keep my fingers crossed 🤞🏻

@nickiramsay2421 oooo, thank you Nicki! I did spot some germination down their today so hopefully they'll come to something and same to yours! Maybe 2024 will be the strawflower year! 💚🌱😊

As a side note, you can if your pushed for pots which i am this year grow spuds in cardboard boxes , 30 x30x45 cm is a good size, my maincrops are all being done this way for this year mainly because my mower and strimmer both died and replacing the two petrol guzzlers in one season broke my piggy bank , ive now watched a few of your vids and given you a sub as i like your content ,,,,,,, all the best from France

Oooo, that sounds like a nifty idea! I might have to give it a go! I'm always buying too many potatoes and never know where to plant them all!
Ahhhh, it's a pain when something like that goes wrong isn't it! You forget how much we need them. I too just buy a new mower, the grass is getting a little long again and my other one busted! Pain in the backside!!
Hope you've had a lovely weekend and enjoyed some of the sunshine!! 😊🌱💚

I don't have slug problems as I use metal grid staging from an old cheapy plastic mini greenhouse .Never known a slug to climb up it yet (she says crossing her fingers and toes ) 😊

They're great! But all my plastic went really brittle and they fell to pieces!! I think this year because it's been so mild, the slugs have just kept multiplying but luckily I have lots of frogs and birds to help me out! Just not in the polyhouse! Hey ho!
Hope you're keeping well Susie and managed to get out in the sunshine at the weekend 💚🌱😊
