Elena doesn’t deserve the hate she gets in my opinion. She has lost so many people and she’s crying because of that.
I used to like Elena but I’ve come to realize she’s been selfish from the moment she transitioned.
My moment of clarity happened when Elena decided to kill off an Original.When you kill an Original, everyone in that Original’s line of descendants dies. That means if someone figured out how to kill Klaus, Katherine, Damon, Stefan, and precious Elena would all die. To save one person, because “I can’t lose anyone else,” and to fulfill Jeremy’s hunter’s mark so that SHE could get the cure, Elena killed an Original and by proxy, thousands of vampires-good and evil, without pausing to consider that somewhere out there may have been a girl just like her, in love with a “good” vampire who woke up the next morning to find him dead.And there must be people whose parents/life partner/best friend/siblings are vampires from Kol's bloodline who would have no idea how they suddenly died.
Then, there’s her interaction with her friends. Caroline repeatedly warns her off Damon because she has experience with Damon, who compelled, controlled, and abused her, used her as a human blood bag, and tried to kill her at least twice. But Elena doesn’t want to hear it, because she loves Damon. Once again, it’s all about her. The “true” Elena comes out when she turns her humanity off and tries to kill Caroline - many times, because Caroline irritates her. Then, when her humanity comes back on, Elena doesn’t want to talk about it, because SHE can’t deal with it. Gee, I’m sorry, sweetie… I’m sorry you tried to kill your best friend multiple times and can’t talk about this seriously traumatic experience with the person you really, really hurt, because it pains YOU too much to remember it. It’s your responsibility to suck it up and deal with it, because Caroline matters more than you do right now.
Then there’s Bonnie, who has been dead all summer. Yet somehow, in spite of sending numerous texts and e-mails in which Bonnie never actually physically calls her back, Elena doesn’t concern herself with Bonnie until she needs something from her-for Bonnie to come back and heal Stefan’s amnesia.* Way to be a friend, Elena. Oh, and while you’re at it, why not try and help Stefan get his memory back by acting out all YOUR important moments with him, instead of, you know, taking him around Mystic Falls and talking about all HIS important moments? His family? Friends? Lexi? Because what really matters here is YOU getting Stefan back, because once again, it’s all about you and your compulsive need to have every guy in Mystic Falls worship the ground you love on, and be friends with you even after you crush his heart while you figure out YOUR feelings.
I want the old Elena back, the one who really did care about other people and put their needs first, the one whose willingness to help Damon brought him out of the darkness into the light, the one who didn’t have to make everything about her. That was the Elena I liked, the Elena of the first few seasons. The Elena that Elijah looked into and saw the goodness of her heart. Yes, Elena, Elijah. Remember him? The one who did anything and everything he had to, to protect his family, but had the decency to feel remorse in threatening your life to get what he wanted. The Elijah who comforted YOU in one of your darkest moments of non-humanity, who felt genuine grief over the death of YOUR brother, and never said a word about how YOU killed HIS little brother. @@aidanleander3170 let's see, first her parents died which I don't think people actually think about. second comparing her to Kathrine and other people doesn't make her any worse it just means Kathrine was screwed over in life to. third she isn't the world's biggest crybaby there where plenty of times she could have cried (That all made sense mind you) and didn't instead staying strong for the people she cared about. Lastly she was only a teenager when all of this happened so just because of that you should cut her at least a little slack.

People are all ways saying how she such a crybaby but they never consider that she lost her parents her brother(Jeremy) multiple times found out that she was adopted lost her ex boyfriend/really good friend (Stefan) lost her true love(Damon ) lost her Best friend multiple times (Bonnie) had to help multiple people turn back on their humanity (Damon, Stefan, Caroline) lost her aunt (Jenna) lost a guardian (Alaric) she's died (explosion with Damon in the car )she's hurt herself for others (stabbed herself to get Elijah to give his word) she had to deal with having a evil doppelganger (Katherine) and yet she still managed to be Happy yes I know that most of those people came back alive but she still had to deal with the lost and she went through so much pain that the girl who hates when people turn off their humanity turned off her humanity so she wouldn't feel like she was Dying (when she lost Jeremy and she turned off her humanity and set her house on fire with him in it) she also trained herself so people didn't have to take care off her all the time (when she had Alaric teach her how to fight and how to kill a vampire ) people don't give her enough credit sometimes but you know that's just my opinion 😊 Maybe I just love Elena too much 🖤 Edit* so it’s been a year and wow, I really stared something ⚪️_⚪️ but what I said was completely true and I never hated on anyone else I’m not saying others didn’t deserve better or that Elena is a saint or anything I’m just saying Elena doesn’t deserve all the hate she gets 😊

John Dohn how have they gone through more than her? No character has lost as many family members and friends as she has - her adopted parents, her biological parents, Jenna, Jeremy, Damon, Bonnie, Alaric etc. It is ridiculous the amount of people she lost and most would have broken down and given up completely. At least the other characters had other people to help them.
CharlieFen I agree, I hate it when people call her a crybaby/slut. I mean, hello, the only real slut in the show is Caroline and Katherine (not that I view them that way, Just the amount of people they were playing twister with). Elena had to deal with a lot of bs and overbearing people like Damon. who never gave her a choice in what mattered vs Stephen who accepted whatever choice she made. Even if that meant her death or him losing her.
Plus, a lot of people don’t know what the fuck they’re talking about. How would you handle most of your family members dying? Or being a doppelgänger with a bunch of people wanting to kill you for the face you wear?
Katherine was a backstabbing, conniving, selfish bitch who only cared about herself. Rarely showing any redeeming quality. She’s a survivor for sure, but don’t think she won’t throw you under the bus to get there.
Caroline was a self centered person in the beginning and I hated her. But she turned out a lot better as a vampire. Had a lot of love interest and became a badass in her own right. (Damon, Matt, Tyler, that guy from college, Stephen and klaus) The only true lose she went through was her mother and fathers death.

em minha opinião à Elena sofreu muito, ela perdeu mãe e o pai, tantos os biológicos quantos os adotivos, a tia... mesmo depois disso, depois da vida dela mudar totalmente, depois de virar vampira, ela resistiu forte e de cabeça erguida. depois de passar por tudo isso e mais eu acho que a Elena mereceu ficar com o Damon, eles foram felizes juntos e se amavam e isso que importa.
in my opinion Elena suffered a lot, she lost her mother and father, as many biological as the adoptive, her aunt ... even after that, after her life changed completely, after becoming a vampire, she resisted strong and with head held high . after going through all this and more I think Elena deserved to stay with Damon, they were happy together and loved each other and that matters.

I wonder if all these people that hate her have felt the pain she has. She has been through a lot of difficult situations. She lost her parents, she found out she was adopted and her biological parents died too, she lost her brother, her aunt, her guardian, her best friend, her boyfriend and her first love. She also didn't have the chance to see her best friends and Stefan happy. So now I hope you reconsider your opinion about her because she is NOT a crybaby but a real SURVIVOR.
I dont think she gets all that hate because she is a crybaby as you say. People hate her because she chose Damon over Stefan. Like she kissed Damon while she was still with Stefan, slept with him the very day she broke up with Stefan. Also in Season 4 she came up with the idea of killing Kol and along with him his entire bloodline of tens and thousands of vampires. So she's this sweet, compassionate protagonist who is willing to commit a genocide to get what she wants. There are many other instances where she acted in a selfish manner, especially after becoming a vampire. But anyway I have to agree that Elena is very strong and brave.

I just love it when a person is going through a breakup, she or he cries his/her balls out and literally thinks it is the end of the world, yet everyone criticizes Elena for crying after all the DEATHS in her family. I get she cries a lot comparing to Katherine, but since when everybody has the same reaction ? Same personality ? And fyi Katherine IS a survivor, but she did a lot of unecessary thing that just made her stupid (being crazy over Stefan like seriously ? Running after a guy ? And torturing Elena's family) Stop comparing Elena with Katherine or Caroline or Bonnie. Technically Elena was only a vampire for 3 seasons, Bonnie's been a witch since season 1 and Caroline a vampire since season 2, it was OBVIOUS that they would handle matters way more differently. And Elena is the type of soft person so she cries a lot, it is her way of expressing her emotions (just like Tyler punches everything). I get that she becomes a bit selfish in season 5 especially and that she kills people that did not deserve it, but did Jenna deserves to die ? I just think that with everything she had gone through she became a bit of a self-centered person (I will judge after watching season 5), but if Nina had stayed, I think Elena would have changed for the better. I just think that people seem to forget that she has gone through so much and that her way of dealing with it is completely different from the others, and that her personality changed in bad and good ways. Everybody is flawed, everybody (in the show) killed, backstabbed, threatened, manipulate, but in the end, who hasn't done any mistakes ? I would probably be pissed if everything Elena did was right, like she is always perfect. Maybe in the show, they made it seem like she didn't do anything wrong, but like I said, maybe it was because Nina was leaving, so everyone didn't really paid attention anymore. It was two late for a "redemption" arc for Elena, even though I would have loved see her become human again and REALLY live her life. Anyways, that was my rant.

And I mean no offense but innocent isn't exactly a word I'd use for such a big number of vampires. Just bc the show has a habit of making its viewers sympathize with the vamps doesn't make them good people. All of them, even the ones presented to us a good, are killers.
And yes, Damon killed Jeremy. And Stefan tried offing Elena at least once and did everything to push her away, so he is no better. Just bc the show paints him as the good brother doesn't mean that's true.
