The 940 is funny. If you've never had one, in pics, it looks like something you may not like compared to other knives. It truly is one of those knives you have to put away your preconceptions on, and just buy. You have to own one, break it in, and give it some carry time to really understand it.
Owned a custom blue/black Griptilian for about a couple years now, lost interest in it as the action became alittle worn, been carrying a Colonel folder for the past few months and recently just found a 940-1501 to continue my black/blue lineup and i am excited for it to come in, hopefully it gets me to carry a Benchmade again
I got my 940 in 2003 as a gift for my father before my first tour in Iraq. He carried it everyday until he passed away in 2013. I carry it regularly now and it is still one of my favorite knives. I would carry it more but I would be devastated if I lost it, mostly because of the sentimental value.
I found the osbourne 940 2 with the carbon fiber scales at the base of a cliff, the previous owner had sharpened it incorrectly and it had spent a few seasons outside. I carry it everyday, was pleased to see how expensive it was new.
I agree! I keep coming back to my 940. I recently purchased a Mini Crooked River. I like it a lot also but it had some quality issues with the axis lock and blade deployment. I took it apart, polished the washers and locking mechanism and now it’s a jewel!
Sliceman- I've had a couple of versions. I think that the Knifeworks Exclusive is the best version. Snagged mine on sale for $169. With CPM-20CV that is a great price for a Benchmade. One of my Dutch knife buddies collects the different iterations. He has like seven or eight. The 940 is a classic. My only rub with the 940's that are non-aluminum is the screws show inside the frame of the scales. Benchmade, use the right size screws. Like you, I have had good luck with my Benchmades. The 940 and Griptilian are the must have Benchmades for me.
I put a silver deep carry clip on my knifeworks exclusive 940. That way it looks new longer my black deep Cary clip on my grip is all chipped. Put the knife works 940 in your KME sharpie the blade and see if the grind angles are the same mine were so far off the knife was dull from knife works. Great light knife tho but I'm still in the honeymoon stage with the bugout really digging the snappy action on my bugout! Also I like the freek more than my grizzly ridge the studs for the lock on the grizzly ridge don't stick up far enough.
Thanks for the video. Love the 940. Have a 940-2 since 2016, loved it so much I sold my 940BLK. Only knife to ever threaten the PM2's dominance for my knife. Really want that Knifeworks one...one day lol
I had 3 that were off. Adjust your pivot as close as you can get it, then tighten it down, after that loosen up the screws on the body. Now put your middle finger at the top of the left or right scale depending on which way you want the blade to go, and your thumb on the bottom right or left scale depending on which way you want the blade to go. Keep in mind you have to have them on opposite sides. Apply pressure by squeezing. This should move the blade either way just a little. Tighten up the screws while applying pressure. Note don't loosen the middle body screws, that does nothing, but loosen the metal liners on the inside of the knife. you shouldn't have to touch them at all.
Oh and be very careful when doing this, don't apply to much pressure the knife will pop out of your hand if you do, and could pop the blade out of the handle and cut yourself. It didn't happen with my 940, but has on other models and I did lay myself open once.
The aluminum scales don’t even look green on mine anymore. It’s weird to see a brand new one and how green it really is. Mine has been pocket carried without a clip just down in my pocket for the good part of 4 years
I love the video. You are fair with the pros and cons about the 940. It def isn’t the best slicer. That being said I still love the 940. I got rid of it 4 times and regretted it all 4 times. I won’t make the same mistake again!!!
I love benchmade knives but I hate the tip up carry. It's slower to pull out of pocket and deploy the blade. I had a tip up knife partially open in pocket before and when I stuck my hand in I sliced it up.
Spyderco needs to make 20CV a production model PM2. Barely anymore expensive and I'll bet if they bought it in the volume they buy S30V prob would be the same price.
My favorite Benchmade 940 ever is the custom modded 940-2 that I got from website KnivesPlus, it has black G-10 scales and has an amazing Acid Stonewashed blade. Here's a link to it it's my absolute favorite 940(acid stonewashed) - www.knivesplus.com/modified-benchmade-940-osborne-knife-acid-stonewash-edc-g10-handle.html
Damn, and people complain about Spydercos being expensive. I threatened to finally get a 940 many times and somehow keep going back to collecting PM2 sprints and exclusives. Which would you pick for a first, the original green aluminum scales or g10?
When it comes to aesthetics, I think nothing beats the 940 design. Something about this design just speaks to me. Unlike the PM2s which is pure ugliness, specially the blade shape and the big hole 😩
I have an ‘02 serrated given to me as a return gift from a friend for getting him a signed copy of one of Dick Marcinko’s books. Never had the heart to pocket carry it, feared losing it. Now I have the Knifeworks exclusive, and all my other knives have mysteriously disappeared.
O4 HEMI- Yeah, it is my opinion and you're entitled to yours. I stand by mine and I have small hands too:-) When the biggest criticism is how skinny the knife is, making it smaller seems like it would be hard to execute. I agree with bp69 that the Para 3 was a big fail.

Like a glock ! Lol
I absolutely love my 940-1. It is super small, super light, and the S90v is amazing... I dont know if I will ever find a better knife.

James G.- Thank you for your service and sorry about your father. That is a truly sentimental story. Thanks for sharing it.
Thank you for sharing and your service!
I bought one two weeks ago. Within two weeks I will own 3 of them. 940, 940-1, 940-2. love it!
I found the osbourne 940 2 with the carbon fiber scales at the base of a cliff, the previous owner had sharpened it incorrectly and it had spent a few seasons outside. I carry it everyday, was pleased to see how expensive it was new.
I love my 940-1. I was so lucky to pick it up at a super great price.. was perfect.
Ode to my 943! One of my favorites. I would love to have one with the backspacers. The 943 never gets any love, it's the forgotten brother.
RIP 943, I love mine.

The standard 940 was my first BM, now I have a few of their others. The Flagship being the CF S90V as my dress up carry!
I have the standard green spacer & the CF-1 & don't regret buying either one of them!
I’ve got them all every iteration I’ve been able to get my hands on. My favorite and I have about 500 pocket knife and some are far more expensive
Wow! 500 knives. You are are true enthusiast, sir. I am impressed. Do you have the Benchmade Emissary? If so, how does it compare to the 940?

Love the 940’s! Great coverage!

I have never owned a Benchmade. Or a 940. I don't know if I will. They keep the blade a little too thick. Maybe someday. Thanks.👍
It's a mod-sheep's foot the same as the Griptillian with the hole cut off. I like the hole.
Great job Bryan! You even managed to make her look good next to your fancy ones!
Excellent ode to an excellent knife.
I love the video. You are fair with the pros and cons about the 940. It def isn’t the best slicer. That being said I still love the 940. I got rid of it 4 times and regretted it all 4 times. I won’t make the same mistake again!!!
One day. On my list to get
I love benchmade knives but I hate the tip up carry. It's slower to pull out of pocket and deploy the blade. I had a tip up knife partially open in pocket before and when I stuck my hand in I sliced it up.
New to the knife community 😳 always carried my dads old buck 110 now just got my first ever 940-2
Nice choice!
I've been waiting for this for a long time!!!! ❤️

@6:32 S20v steel 😂 But seriously it’s awesome there’s a 20CV 940 variant.
I really want to try one out for a while, but the price being that high and the lack of a store nearby where I can try a few out have kept me from it.
I've been wanting one of these lately but I'm not sure if I want to spend the money on a 940-1 or splurge for a sebenza.
I’ve owned many benchmade Knives. Bought my 940 about a year ago it’s all I carry now. I won’t carry anything else.
Me too. Other than I'm never without a Leatherman. The 940 (original green with satin blade) kicked out every other knife I have or had.
The price on the 940 and 940-2 both should come with upgraded steel, even if it's just bumped to S35VN.
Damn, and people complain about Spydercos being expensive. I threatened to finally get a 940 many times and somehow keep going back to collecting PM2 sprints and exclusives.
Which would you pick for a first, the original green aluminum scales or g10?
G10 for sure. But I'm a fan of stand-offs and tend to scratch stuff so the aluminum doesn't appeal to me.
@FlamQ Dbltap That's what I was thinking. Also I dont mind the extra weight that they bring as well as not being too slippery in hand. Thanks!
Not new to this hobby, prefer larger knives and always kinda disliked 940. Today I bought one and NOW I get it. You are right, just buy it.
I wish the newer versions would get the backspacer too. Makes it feel more like an integral. Barrel spacers are meeh IMO 🤒
It's called a saber-grind, I own a standard 940 in aluminium. I payed $250 for it.
I wonder how it compares to the Emissary.
Would you recommend the 940 or the 940-2 more???
As always a freak video. I’m deciding between the 940-2 and the Spyderco Kapara. Your thoughts please...
Ooooo.... Tough one. Do you have a coin to flip?
I do. And I apologize. The work “freak” should say “fine”!
*Is it me or are the blades slightly different between the newer models and the original?*
940-1 is great...but the anthem is the apex of benchmade trust me I could sell the rest of my knives and be happy.
Is DLC coated M390 blade better or the same as S30V??
Better,
When it comes to aesthetics, I think nothing beats the 940 design. Something about this design just speaks to me. Unlike the PM2s which is pure ugliness, specially the blade shape and the big hole 😩
Im stuck between the 940 or the nakamura i dont know what one to get
Which one did you get?
I have an ‘02 serrated given to me as a return gift from a friend for getting him a signed copy of one of Dick Marcinko’s books. Never had the heart to pocket carry it, feared losing it. Now I have the Knifeworks exclusive, and all my other knives have mysteriously disappeared.
On my wish list but they're $250 in the UK,too much for a knife i can't carry.
Same way I feel about most autos. Want them. Can't carry them. :(
Still waiting on a mini 940 theyre making a mini of everything else why not this hall of famer?
O4 HEMI I feel like it wouldn’t work out good kinda like how the pm3 looks
@@bp-hx9ts i would still love to see/own one
O4 Hemi- too skinny for a mini.
@@MrGeerbear again that's your opinion i still want one ive got pretty small hands lol
