Best listened with with good speakers
So cool new dude I was going to buy the mkii
But for 500 bucks cheaper I got the Mark one are the HT stage 2 x 12 kicks ass bro
@@jessetate9701 a
It seems like Blackstar has recognized the greatness of the Riff Master!! Finaly!! Congrats brother!
Hell yeah buddy!! Ha ha lots more exciting things to come!! Cheers dude!
Ricky Chance im sure they recognize the greatness of hetfield, think he plays diezels and mesas and fractals though
That's a nice amp!
Great review and great video Matt :)
Thank you bro!! So happy and lucky to have the chance thanks to Blackstar!! And there will be many more to come
Yeah I'm really happy you got this great opportunity with Blackstar! Also they will be very proud and happy with this video, it's very well done, informative and engaging!
thanks mann!! i appreciate that! OMG i was watching your your latest vids earlier and OMG the tone dude!!! straight from hell!!
thanks dude!
I'm a Marshall guy, but Blackstar has become my Close second!!......the distortion is to die for!!! I can just jam and get Lost for hours.
This one looks cool. I get my overdrive from pedals so always looking for a great clean channel. Seems loud to if needed. Great review.
Truly an amazing amp... I've owned a lot of Mesa Boogies (Mark V, JP-2C, Mini Rec, Single Rec, etc.) that I've loved, but I got out of gigging and sold them all off - just using a modeler at home... I was itching for a new amp and had a Blackstar Club 50 head in the past, and heard good things about the MKII series. I have the HT Stage 60 MKII 1X12 - almost an identical amp as the 2X12 from a circuitry stand point, but no resonance control. I gotta say - they've grown up pretty well. The clean tones are just awesome, and the OD's are surprisingly harmonically rich - not quite up to the higher end Mesa's I had, but every control is all in the usable range and you get so much variety. My only gripe is both channels (and voices) share the tone shaping controls - so it's really, to me, a 2 channel amp - but with a tone of tonal options.... I ended up buying a surplus ID series 5 way switch for cost (around $50) and it works perfect with this amp. I mainly wanted it for the boost option. The only thing I will say about the dynamic power circuit, is in 6 watt mode, the cleans seem to take a hit, but the gain structure is all still there. It's not bad, but definitely a difference on channel 1. The other thing - this amp as a Celestion Seventy 80 - a speaker that I usually loathe, but for some reason it just works exceedingly well in this application and I have no plans of changing it out... Great review!
Good points. I think the 70/80's and the one master is what's keeping me away from this amp. The DSL40CR is far more flexible (2 volumes), has a better speaker too!
Great to see Blackstar hooking you up. Tis a nice amp indeed 🤘
It’s a beast! It Sounds sooo good
They sound like the higher end Laney AOR Pro Tube Leads from the 80s except less bassy, but still great bottom end punch.
Ok now I need this amp
DO IT!
Aaaaaaaand it costs 1000€
That was expected
Totally worth it though
I just ordered the club 40 today after I played my friends today. You have great dirty tones with out sacrificing the cleans. I mostly play clean but I want to get a good dirty sound from the amp cause right now I use the distortion and a compressor as a boster for my gain.
That thing looks and sounds savage! Great review Matt!
Pure beast mate!!! Cheers dude!
Such a great demo! Many thanks.
I didn’t get to play this. But I’ve played the ht club 40c mkii great sounding amp! Good blackstar
The clean always had bass and treble its just a redefined sound. Main differences are USB, 10% power, global boost via footswitch, and voice access through footswitch. Main points.
Shame you didn't show the clean on the bridge pickup to show how versatile it really is
Nice amp and nice review matt!
Thanks! It’s such a sic amp!!
Overall a good review, but he's off about one small thing. Early on the reviewer says that the clean channel in the original HT Stage 60 has a volume and a single tone control, whereas the MkII has a volume + bass and treble controls. I'm looking at my HT Stage 60 (original) and I see bass and treble controls in the clean channel too - exactly like the MkII. Also, the reviewer seems to imply - perhaps I'm misinterpreting him here - that, in the original HT, the clean channel lacks a voice control. Again, that's not true - the original has it. In fact, the only difference (in terms of controls) that I notice between the two versions of the amp is the wattage selector. Like the MkII, the original also allows you to select, on rear panel, between two types of reverb.
I wanted to point this out but thought I would read through the comments to check nobody else had noticed! My point being, how can you compare the mark 1 and Mark 2 when you clearly have no idea of the differences! I'm quite happy with my mark 1...
Matt u might wanna try the Blackstar St. James 50-watt Tube Head
Done and done mate check the video I did with Steve from blackstar 🤟🏻
I am in contact with Blackstar support. Does anyone besides me hear a wah like sound in the tone of this amp? Maybe not a wah sound but really processed when using the voice switch. I bought this because I wanted NO effects, just tube but decided to chance getting this one. It just doesn't sound right to me.
Sounds awesome!! Really like the versatility!
It’s a pure beast mate
Thinking of getting one of these. So much versatility. If you want to sound like a marshall or a boogie you can tweek it to your own liking
If I remember trying this amp, one of the biggest caveats were the perceived volume levels were not very close among voicings within the same channel (mainly OD1 and OD2). Simply too much of a gap so if you're playing live, the sound guy would be pulling his hair out. I wonder how the 112 and the 212 compare.
Awesome sound!!! I wonder how you take the video cam and recording sound and make a youtube video!!!
Love them tones man, keep whipping them strings Matt!!!
Cheers bro! Glad you enjoyed it!
I have the first iteration of this amp and it sounds just like this one. To be honest, I’m not the biggest fan. In general, it just sounds flat and the mid-lows are very washy no matter what voicing or channel I use. One very huge positive about it is that I can’t find a better clean tone on any amp to save my life. Keep in mind, it’s only my opinion. Maybe I’m just fatigued on it’s sound but I’m thinking of switching to a Marshall Origin 50 combo (maybe head) which just has that beautiful classic shape to its tone. Great video man!
Jorgie WTF it’s because the speakers suck gotta go with creambacks
B Mann I just got a new silver jubilee amp with a marched 2x12 can with g12 V-types. I’ll run the HT though it tomorrow and see how it sounds.
This is really a good review.
Great job!
Thanks : )
Thank you my friend! \m/
Toss some swamp things in it. Better than stock celestions. At least the first version of the HT. Sounds fkn great. I want one... Again
Very helpful review.....well done....you may have just sold one for Blackstar.
Selling my jubilee for a down payment for this amp through sweetwater good cleans to classic rock crunch to metal/metalcore tones
Legend 🤟🏻🤟🏻
MATT YOUR A BEAST DON'T FORGET IT BRO YOU REALLY ARE A RIFF MASTER🎸🤘
Thank you my friend! I appreciate that!
I just bought this amp from ZZounds to replace a VOX AC50CP2 that went tits up. This Blackstar sounds great. Just the sounds to replace the AC50. The VOX didn't do metal at all, but that top OD channel sounds identical to the OD channel on the VOX through my LP. Awesome. I would have bought another VOX, but none of them now offered has on-the-fly channel switching. Changing over your guitar cable to another jack on the amp head or fiddling with controls for a new sound is not my idea of convenient.
How do you feel about the shared EQ between OD1/OD2? That’s one of the only things that makes me think twice about considering this
OMG it sounds freaking dope
Have the HT40 but just ordered this one. Going to switch the preamp tubes and lose the 70/80s and throw in a creamback and vintage 30.
I'm just a basement player. Could I get a Hetfield-type tone from this with no nonsense? I don't want to be tricked like I was with the Boss Katana.
THAT AMP IS BADASSSSSSSSS!!
Great Review my friend!
Hell yeah! Cheers Dude!
Sounds like these amps are gonna give Mesa Boogie a run for there $?
Only 999$ (us) on this amp and sounds AMAZING!..Great demo keep up the awesome work!
Definitely have been enjoying all your vids!
Thanks!👊🏻🤙🏻
Blackstar are #1! Always delivering huge tone!
Hell yeah!!
Been looking at Mesa’s for awhile
But def found my new amp! Haha
(Accidentally deleted post meant to edit)
I play metal but I also play a lot of 70s classic rock and blues. Would this amp do that also?
Absolutely yes!
My man thanks for keeping it real
Awesome video dude!! I was wondering if you would be able to make a video as to how you add drums to your original songs?
Thanks! I use a software called EZ DRUMMER 2 dude il maybe put a video together about it
Uuuh... I have the original HT 60 and it's not true that it only has a volume and a tone for the clean channel. It also has a bass and a treble knob.
Holy humping pummel bunnies Matt man! Finally got the amp. Unreal, just unreal. I thought I was going to be on OD 2 most of the time, but I can't even get over how good OD1 sounds. Truly is the sound in my head, and that's crazy! Mad gain on OD2 chugs like a wino on a holiday weekend. I never imagined any am could sound so good. Between the three channels I can literally dial in any sound I want.
Ha ha ha bro that’s Killer! Really happy you love it as much as I did!! It’s a great amp!! Thanks for let me know your thoughts!
DISREGARD!!!! Well, now that I know you bought it, how much do you like it a year later? any issues?
Great video Matt,I’m considering this to use in a bedroom mostly with the power reduction.I want a Metallica tone with out having to use a pedal.Plus the clean sounds good.
Go for it bro! This amp will deliver all you need! Pure chug and beautiful cleans
Which one should be better:
Ht stage mkii or the ht club mkii ?
Personally I’d go for the stage but the club is awesome too!
I was thinking of getting the mark 1 am I going to be missing out on many if the features or is it not really worth the extra money? Also the clean channel has the bass and treble on the mark 1 same as the mark 2
Clean has way too much presence, it takes away from the 'warmth'. There seems to be digital artefacts in the sparkly channel like modelling???
Bubbly, fuzzy, too much gain on OD1 not enough on channel clean.
Good review though.
Making me think about blackstars for my next amp lol
Trust me if you want killer tone you wanna get a Blackstar dude
You will not regret.
Evh, engl, peavey and mesa are better though
Very good video bro keep it metal
Thanks buddy!!
How does the mk 2 compare to the ht metal gain wise?
hey bud new subscriber here !! and was wondering how well this compares to the series one? im like you an old school thrasher and need your advice.thanks
Both amazing! Not very versatile different tones but youl achieve anything from heavy chug to smooth rock with both
What's the difference between the MKII and the HT Stage 60? I just picked up a HT60 for $375 in really good condition, i am running it through a Vintage 30's 4x12. So i heard the description and I'm guessing the difference is in the Power Selector and the USB 🤔, what power tubes does this one have?
1thess523 MKII is like upgrade version nothing much.
Hey just tried an ht club 40 which was nice, but thinking of checking this one out this week. Any feedback on how they compare? I was hoping for a 2x12.
Awesome amp!
Love your finger picking!
very good sound and looks very good i want to buy it but i'm a bit conserned about the lifetime of new amps my marshall is now 30 years old and works perfectly but i heard that newer amps don't make it trough their guarantee period. how long would this amp last before it needs a reparation for something (Sorry for bad english i'm from belgium)
Well you can never know what’s gonna happen but all my blackstars are fine and if they ever have issues il just deal with it when it happens . But blackstar are solid
@@mattriffmaster thx i think i'll go for this one!
just saying with your mic placement you got it abit treb-mid heavy.... Had this amp for a few years now
Ahh okay sounded good for me so we all good 🤟🏻 it’s a great amp
What’s that guitar? Looks and sounds amazing
ESP E-II Eclipse..
I'll take 3!! When do they arrive?
HA
Great review, Matt. Looks and sounds like a really good amp.
Ha ha ha it’s great mate!! Sounds so heavy ha ha
Sounds great! Is this a Tube Amp?
yea
Mostly
I'm sold. On my way to GC now.
YES!! That’s awesome! It’s a great amp!!
Did you buy it? I just puchased one on sweetwater, so excited to get this beast
Hey man love this demo. I was wondering how thumpy the low end is? I had the ID:TVP 260 and I sold it because there was absolutely no low end thump.
Hey Matt? Do you have the HT Club 40 in your collection? Awesome video Brotha!
Hey bud no I don’t sorry
I was burned on the first Blackstar HT100 nowhere enough gain! What is so different about this one? You can make anything sound good on youtube, does this really have much more gain than the first Blackstar HT 100?
This was just guitar and amp I use emgs which helps but no pedals used and no post EQ
@@mattriffmaster Well it sounded killer.
Here in the states, they want $400.00 more for the 100-watt version. I hope the 50 watts sounds just as good for what we do I don't need the extra channel.
For some reason, I always pay attention to how you hold your pick... anyway, I've been expecting and looking forward to this since I saw the picture on the FB page. Seems to provide the chug pretty well.
Oh Mann it chugs!!!
I am interested in this amp for its versatility because I want to play big rock, punk rock and to play metal, trash in the style of metallica, and death metal in the gojira, and also soilwork. I have read some user reviews saying that the gain level was not enough to go to metal, yet what I hear in this demo seems quite conclusive to me (my next guitar will be a schecter sls elite) What do you think ? sorry for my english i'm french.
Sounds like it can handle metal to me. If it didn't suffice, wouldn't a pedal solve your issue? I'm sure the bands you mention use pedals to get the sound just they way they want it.
Hello Matt! I'm a fresh subscriber, i really like your enthusiastic reviews!
Now i'm having a bit of trouble choosing between this amp and the ID60TVP 212.. I like the versatility and effects of the ID60 and the low maintenance of a solid state but i'm also drooling over this monster. I'm usually a bedroom player, occasionally recording but i also often go over to my friend(who is a drummer) and we jam together. I'm also a very heavy metalhead.
What would you suggest? The ID60TVP or this badboy and how is the maintenance on valve amps? I never owned one before.
EDIT: I know this one is a bit more expensive than the ID but it doesn't matter if it kicks ass.
Heyyy! Welcome to the family!! Well both amps are amazing!! I highly recommend this amp! The it’s great sounding! And because of its DPR switch you can lower the volume for home use but go full BEAST MODE when jamming with a drummer!
I would like to play Foo Fighters and Queens of the Stone Age style music on it. How would it sound on this?
It’s Blackstar it will sound good! And has a huge range of tone it can handle anything ! Very versatile
@@mattriffmaster Thanks!
Any information about its reliability of the amp?
From my experience with a lot of blackstar products reliability is always on point! Never been let down since
Blackstar makes reliable stuff, they aren't really "known" for any problems.
It seems blackstar has a one up on Marshall dirty tone.
which Blackstar has the easiest to get metal out of the box with no pedals?
All of them ha ha
Matt The Riff Master did this thing replace the metal series as the jack of all trades?
Ugh...I want this amp so bad....
I was going to buy the Mk II as I own an original from the series, but this nerd made the amp sound so harsh and awful that I am passing and buying an Invective.
Matt, love the ESP. what model color?
Damn i was really hoping to hear some soloing but great review otherwise
Think I found my amp,
I have yet mkII with the one speaker. It’s got a lot of bass but also highlights the silo any harsh frequencies a lot. It sounds good at lower volumes but all that squeaky/peircing very forward frequencies are super forward and at louder volumes it just overtakes everything . Pretty harsh tbh.
Smells Soldano
Get some mullard tubes. The electro harmonics it comes with is too harsh
does the HT60 have an effects loop? Want to put some Eventide on this bad boy, can it do it?
gain sounds quite compressed
i agree,! but for some reason i just love it.
Heightch T... Hate-ch T .... Not sure the English is English! How about just an H and a T, which would be HT!
But as I am from the States I digress.
American , British Tone????.... what does that mean you can have trump or boris ...
Hey, you look like Dean Ambrose, by the way, nice video
I'm torn between the 1X12 and 2X12. I can get the 1X12 version for $650 right now, which seems like a killer deal, and as a dude pushing 50, the lighter weight is appealing. Is there a huge difference in sound? I will be gigging smaller clubs.
Hey! Erm there will be a difference but still going to sound great! Although I believe the 2x12 isn’t really that heavy mate
@@mattriffmaster Thanks for the reply. Also can't find a used 2X12 right now. So $650 sounds perfect. Already ordered. I figure I can always get a 1X12 Extension cab if I really feel I'm missing something. I've always liked going vertical on the backline - better projection to hear myself in the mix. I did that with all my Mesa stuff - always couldn't stand their 2X12 horizontals cabs, but the vertical ones, or stacking 1X12 cabs worked great....
Be a great amp to take to band practice. I'm not a fan of moving my 4x12 cabs and Marshall head. Hell Mike it at a gig and probably replace my whole stack! Ha.
I have this amp and it's quite heavy. I'm not sure how heavy your rig is compared to this, but me coming from a fender mustang amo to this amp, I definitely fell the weight. It's so heavy for me that I live it in my car instead of having to take it up the stairs to my apartment
@@derrekmcfarlane7872 wow no kidding.
@@MARK-r6c3k but I still highly recommend you go and check it out, it sounds killer. And see if it's any lighter than your current rig
So how is it with classic rock tones ? AC DC Zeppelin Aerosmith etc.
Would be great for this kind of stuff
Around the @8:00 marker the amp has a solid sharp overdrive sound to it that sustains itself. Are you using a pedal because I tried playing through mine today and I did not achieve that sound at all and I was messing with the knows. However I noticed when I put my mogami cable into my guitar input jack all the way in I got no response from it, it has to be put like 3/4 slightly from all the way in to get a response and I don't think that is normal....
I have a B.C. Rich Ironbird with fisherman pickups and the tone he has from the overdrive 1 & 2 I am not getting that metal tone at all....I think it's my input jack is screwed up...
No pedals used no just guitar into the amp the guitar has emgs in which do help but no pedals
Does the guitar clean up well if rolling back the guitar volume on the OD channels?
Yes it does I forgot to show that but it really does yes
fast forward to about 11:00....
I love this amp! I was looking at the EVH III 50 watt combo. I think it was 2 by 12. Anyways it's a 3 channel amp. I heard when switching from clean to the 2nd or 3rd channel, there is a big jump in volume on the EVH. Anyone know? I think this Blackstar might be better!
I’d recommend this blackstar! Purely for how versatile it is! All channels sound great! And puts out some serious tone and volume!
@@mattriffmaster I think I am leaning towards this one. I played through one very similar, but it wasn't a MKII
I wish this compared with the friedman twin sister or the revv models
anyone have an opinion on this or a marshall dsl 40cr i prefer more of a classic rock tone over metal
Are you using an amp simulator or is that straight from the amp? Sounds simulated to me. If so, how the hell are we going to know how the amp truly sounds?
This is the amp miced up and recorded
@@mattriffmaster I just purchased the HT STAGE 60 and its bad ass!
And what does miced up mean?
Badass mann!!
Well I am recording the amp using a mic and recording into my computer
Thats a big amp
It’s a beast
I think you sold me on one
Is it really worth 1,000 bucks
Sure is in my opinion yeah
Matt The Riff Master can it be good for war of ages, impending doom, August burns red,as I lay dying tones?
Hot dammit. Somebody buy this for me please? Tis the season haha or somethin like that right?
Do the Celestion seventy 80 in this suck?
The Celestion’s in this amp sound amazing
Must say cleans on this are great but man, dirty channel sounds dreadful.
Fuckin riffage sounding awesomeness
Yeaah!!! It a beast of an amp dude
wow... just wow... imagine if it had 6l6 in it.. ;P
Ha ha ha the el34’s sounds killer dude
haha that i can hear...i got myself a new explorer and sounds killer.. im gonna be uploading a video soon.. hope you will check it
Can I use the 2 way footswitch to change between clean and overdrive? Or does it just allow to change between OD 1 and OD 2?
Yeah you can do that my friend it switches between all channels and the voice switch will allow you to select the voice for that channel
