How EDUCATION helped a country come out of poverty: South Korea (Hindi) | But Why

  • Education has been an essential factor in South Korea's transformation from a poor, war-torn country to a prosperous and technologically advanced nation. Through access to quality education, the people of South Korea were able to acquire the skills and knowledge they needed to succeed in the global economy. This, in turn, helped to lift the country out of poverty and build a thriving, modern society.

I always find a lot of inconsistency when it comes to agriculture in India. Some say agriculture is declining, your video says agricultural employment is increasing. Some farmers are making tons of money, and then there are stories of farmers below poverty line. Some say that agriculture is on the decline and we will not have food anymore. A while I ago I visited a distant village, and they said no one is taking up farming anymore, no one is planting crops anymore, and yet I saw the fields close to harvest. There is a lot about Indian agriculture that is confusing. I believe there's a lot we need to know about Agriculture, because ultimately we are a malnourished population.

    • @Dara_107
      @Dara_107 2 года назад +38

Agriculture as a profitable endeavour is declining. The employment in agri is much higher than the required rates, primarily because they are not being absorbed in other sectors- hence the sector in itself is declining.
Large farmers of north west India are profiting and rich because of large farms and green revolution techniques adopted in the past. While poor small farmers have to merge farms and end up losing on profits when bargaining for pay with middlemen.
India should primarily focus on making farming sustainable and with improving on green revolution techniques feed India. While smaller and medium farms can go for organic or exotic fruits with incentives and equipments from govt. or a coop. To increase profits.

We seriously need to Industrialise we need labour-intensive, relatively low-skill, better paying jobs instead we have agriculture which is really low skill and low paying and services which is high skill, high paying but employees very few people from which the masses don't really benefit only the better off communities benefit. We need industry and mass manufacturing.

Edit: I do not mean that the suggested models are completely successful. I instead mean that there are some areas in which they have fared well, e.g. Nordic model is least depressive, South Korean is penetrative, and German is efficient.

As of date across all boards the system is quite rigid with a one shoe fits all approach. It's geared towards urban jobs that too not the emerging trends . And it encourages rural to urban migrantion

(edited) There is only one kind of education, self education which is a skill, and education ultimate goal is to make an individual independent. School, teachers etc are just helps. The more independent the child will be with there studies and life with just necessary help, the better they will be in there learning, life, as citizens of india and contributions in different fields. Also lot of practical education is needed in the outside world, get there hands dirty as quick as possible: how to learn, how to socialize, how to complaint to government, doing some social activity, trying to start a small business, research in sci art engineering etc, doing some activity individually in there local area, taking care of oneself health in there own hand, and personal life decisions, even if they are very small decisions like choosing what kind of cloths to buy for themselves, etc but extreme individualism is not good too because humans are social, depending on person it should be balanced, which again only the individual can explore and learn

      Yes you're right
I am 13 now and have been self studying since I was in first grade
This has really helped me as I can take major decisions related to my studies independently
I have no proper time tables as no one is there to teach me after school hours (no tution also ) so I am really flexible when it comes to time management
This hasn't affected my studies a bit (as I am one of the toppers of the class since I was in 1st).......Rather than studies I have great interest in research work too
I am totally independent when it comes to all of the decisions related to my studies or anything else
But this can't be applied to all as some students need help but still some decisions should be taken ourselves only :)

Some other reasons for South Korean success will include-
    1. Homogeneity- hence problems like religious disparity, regionalist interests, languages are not an issue - we fight issues that have never been an issue for countries like Japan and SK.
    2. Population- an obvious reason- will we ever be able to have enough per capita income even if our growth is high?
    3. Several coups- I wonder if a relatively peaceful india had a problem in push towards growth coz we never experienced hardships and human rights violations post independence like the 70s-80s in SK.
    4. Hierarchical society- people actually see work as worship and seniors as gods.. so much so that speaking up against it is seen as rude and foreigner like. In India, even if it is present, is nowhere close to Korea where ppl sleep in offices, have to party w/ the boss till 4-6 AM and still come to work at 8 !
Also under the facade of development I have observed several side effects in the South Korean society-
    1. Heavy classism- kids in elementary school start bullying others based on money and status- even education is business, students study till 10 ( previously till midnight under the law) just to go to the top colleges.
    2. Herd mentality- everyone wears the same brands, eats the same trendy food, speaks the same slang.. Internet and being up to date w/ trends is the way..I wonder if homogeneity in society also contributes to it
    3. Gender pay gap and office based sexism- especially during maternity leaves on promotions
    4. And Most importantly the CHAEBOLS having free reign to the country- any crimes committed by them is brushed under the rug ( tbh I believe that’s true in our country too but to a smaller extent)

But a “republic” massacring its own people ( do read on Gwangju massacre) through its own military, action against students and being framed as North Korean spies, misusing intelligence services. Two periods of military rule and fascist rule consecutively tires people out and makes them desperate for change and development.

I would argue in the favor of nationalization of land/capital followed by systemic redistribution by the government like in the early USSR.
The states in east India are in poor conditions due to less central funds and more exploitation of resources of these states by the colonial empire and later by industry-heavy states in the south and west. as being geographically far from the political center and engulfed in the socio-economic turmoil after the British occupation, these states were in dire need of monetary relief and radical social reforms. The Indian government should have given special status to these geographically locked and highly dense/populous states.

nowadays start up is a very common word . many online courses are available to learn how you can be rich . some are useless and some are frauds. is it so easy to make a company ? a good coder is not sufficient to make a tech company or app . it also needs money which most middle class indians does not have to spend on a startup if they even have a desire to do so. can you explain us the basic steps to make a successfull startup and even further

Not discounting the effort, the energy they have put in to develop themselves, that should be commended but you need to understand one important fact, South Korea does not have an independent foreign policy, they are a vassal state of the USA. If India could do that, but India should not. We need to develop ourselves, and we need to learn, but we should never lose our strategic Independence.

    Education +population control.
Akeli UP ki population, Pakistan ke barabar he...
India has tackled all of itsmajor problems. Now only if its population was around 60-70 crores, there would have been so much of wealth to be distributed and hence state sponsored education and healthcare.

Make a video on objective mindset vs subjective mindset. How objective mindset of a citizen helps the nation to grow? In india we're all made biased from our childhood whether it's politically or religiously.
    .
How such biased mindset makes us distant from the actual truth and we all are living in a subjective reality.
