In the early seasons, Squidward often found SpongeBob annoying, but he still cared enough about him to stick up for him, like when Mr. Krabs sold him for pocket change and when the rude customer yelled at him for forgetting his drink. You don't see this kind of behavior from Squidward in the later seasons because the writers flanderized him to the point that his personality _became_ hating SpongeBob.
And there's the one where Spongebob and Patric start annoying everyone in Bikini Bottom with the slide whistles, at first Squidward is just as annoyed as everyone else but then he joins in and even outdoes Spongebob and Patric at annoying the residents, this shows that occasionally he even enjoys their antics.
squidward does care even though he's embarassed by spongebob,I think it's like older neighbour takes care of younger neighbour friend. I think squidward is basically a 75 yr old grandpa and it's because he views spongebob as a child in comparison to himself ''poor little guy''.
This theory is so depressing from how he’s infantilized by his parents and think he’s unable to act as an adult. So many people with mental disabilities have to face the same struggles
This theory seems very likely, however there are times when it is questionable such as April fools day, and A day without laughter when squidward tricks spongebob too far, but everything else checks out except we never see SpongeBob’s parents being wealthy, and SpongeBob has been proven to be smart before, just unmature as shown in the first movie.

I prefer to think Squid ward grew up with Spongebob. Possibly, Sponge's parents were....Toxic. So one day, being sick of it all. Squidward pulled a "This one's on the house!", without the pizza. And made Sponge bob live with him. Thus, the parents visiting is Sponge bob believing they could've changed. With Squid ward being protective, because he loves him as brother\father(?) Makes more sense than Squidward LITERALLY being his paid guardian.
And if they did hire squidward, it explains how he affords his fanciness on a cashiers pay.... he complains abt his minimum wage job but can buy organic n imported foods, art supplies, etc. And it's not that squidward cares for SpongeBob if he parishes. It's the loss of his parents money coming in if anything happens 😮😮
I'm sorry but there really wasn't much of a theory here at all. You mostly just described Squidward's character dynamic with Spongebob and then said, "and what if he was hired by Spongebob's parents to look after him? There's no evidence it DIDN'T happen!" Like I waited through the whole video expecting there to be some bit from an episode where Squidward interacted with Spongebob's parents (which to my knowledge hasn't ever happened? But I don't know about the recent seasons as much) or something like that, that could have some implications you could extrapolate from it. The fun of cartoon theories is in overanalyzing little details that could be read as some kind of implication to something but I feel like you had more evidence AGAINST your theory in this video than towards it.
