- जब 'आवारा' फ़िल्म सोवियत संघ में रिलीज़ हुई तो वो वहाँ की एक तरह से राष्ट्रीय फ़िल्म बन गई.. फ़िल्म का गाना 'आवारा हूँ' हर सोवियत की ज़ुबान पर था और वो एक तरह से वहाँ का राष्ट्रीय गीत बन गया. वर्ष 1954 में अकेले 6 करोड़ 40 लोगों ने जिनमें अधिक्तर युवा थे 'आवारा' के टिकट ख़रीदे. राज कपूर के प्रति पूरे सोवियत संघ में दीवानगी तब और बढ़ गई जब उनकी अगली फ़िल्म 'श्री 420' रिलीज़ हुई. वर्ष 1954 में जब भारतीय प्रतिनिधिमंडल सोवियत संघ गया तो हर जगह यही माँग उठती थी कि राज कपूर 'आवारा हूँ' गाएं और उन्होंने पूरे दिल से गाया भी. पिक्चर अभी बाकी है के इस एपिसोड में अवारा फ़िल्म की कहानी पर चर्चा कर रहे हैं रेहान फ़ज़ल और सर्वप्रिया सांगवान.

There was a time in Russia and eastern block countries till 20014-15 when cab drivers or restaurants or laundromat did not use to charge u if u say a song of Raj Kapoor or act a scene of his for them.
As far as other movies for this program as it is a BBC podcast do consider 4 movies of Guru Dutt which r in syllabus of RADA and those movies r Mr. and Mrs. 55, Pyaasa, Kaagaz Ke Phool and Sahib Biwi aur Gholam. And also consider Garam Hawa of Balraj Sahni and a movie made in Indo-Soviet collaboration names Pardesi.

After listening all this raj kapoor is real hero
When I first time watched" Awara" it was In early 80th in China., I still in high school . I remember soon after this move showing people humming those movie 's songs every where especially " Awara hoon", we even transferred these songs to Chinese .I can't remember this move made that early(1951) in black and white. At that time I don't know much about Raj Karpoor and Nargis just know the judge character is Raj Kapoor's real life farther.
Now I am living out side China, just a few weeks ago I started to watch this movie again and I ask my friend ( who still live in China) do you remember Awara that move ? Then she immediately start sing Awara hoon song in Indian. This is 40 years after this movie showing in China ! You can imagine how popular Awara was ( or is ) in China.
Recently I been read a lot of information about Raj Karpoor and Nargis personal life , watched morst their movies even I don't understand Indian but just enjoy watch this two on screen and cached most the story goes . I would say there's no other Raj Karpoor and Nargis ever again, this perfect a pair was the God gifted to India , their true love touched so many people' heart and they through the movies let us generations to joy.
