Jared I don't know if the difference in format of this episode was intentional or not, but I absolutely loved how much more engaging you were with the camera while doing your work, and rather than a time lapse with background music we got to see commentary with a little fast forward rolled in. It really feels cleaner and more enjoyable overall. Glad to see the new spirit of the channel.

When I graduated High School in June of 1973 I drove across the country with 2 buddies; Massachusetts up to Canada, down to Southern California then up the coast. Our vehicle? A 1971 Ford E100 Van; 6 Cylinder, 3 on the tree! That was the heaviest thing I have ever done. Three teenagers stoned out the whole trip! 50 years ago next June.
I was gone for 2 months and spent $330.00, but it was worth it. What an adventure! Cheep thrills. Put Alice Cooper's "School's Out" into the 8 track tape player and CRANK IT UP!!
Your Van is a classic. Vanners love these old trucks. Econoline Vans were commercial vehicles and ran forever. Nice score. Thanks for churning up some great memories.

A friend of mine and I did pretty much the same thing. When we graduated high school in June, 1961, we drove all around the U.S. for 3 months during our summer vacation in a 1958 VW van. We're in our 80's now and we still talk about it. Yes, Mike and I are still in touch... friends for nearly 70 years.

Still really like the idea of keeping it simple. 300 straight 6 with EFI (factory or otherwise), add on overdrive, overhaul the suspension and that would be a great cruiser. The slot mag, side pipe freak van look would be pretty cool. Too much shag carpeting though and you might as well call it Pink's Pleasure Palace.

Definitely keep the 240 in there! Lots of comments saying "300s are easier to find parts for", but the two are identical except for the rods and crank I believe. An Offenhauser intake with a 2 barrel for a bit more HP and torque seems to be perfect for a period correct mod. If you decide to go 4.9, the stock MPFI really bumped up the HP, and a '96 will have mass air flow for a taller cam grind

Hey Jared 🙂 Love the old Econoline. My take is: modern brakes, suspension work, decent engine and auto transmission to make it an occasional tow rig, and D-ring load-securing eyes bolted through to the chassis in the rear. Patina stays (that’s non-negotiable for car guys 😆 ). Then use it as a gofer/parts-chaser. It would look epic with “Questionable Garage” and a period phone number in period font in faded/patina white 🙂

Jared, even after hearing your idea of hot rodding inline 6 and throwing on some neat wheels, I'm still liking the offhand suggestion of building this van into a basic camper van you can take on other revivals or just camp in whenever, dress it up a bit if you wanted to, but turning it into a camper van doesn't necessarily need to be that expensive. I'm an RV mechanic myself, and building something low budget for it wouldn't be terribly difficult: maybe build a platform to fit a full size bed, slap it in the back of the van, get some storage drawers underneath, done. Route in some fresh and gray water tanks into the van and a small sink housed in a countertop, that'd be easy with swappable jugs...routing in a basic 2/3 burner propane stove top could be really easy with a single propane line and mount a tank somewhere internally or externally for the rig, then slam in some overhead storage, before you know it, you've got a basic camper with still a substantial amount of space for hauling as that van is a pretty long chassis, food for thought.
I'd love to see that, but even if you don't build it like that, I can't wait for the next video! Awesome video this time around, as the van looks amazing after this wash!

Like 1970's hippy van but with an 80's flip. A party van with trippy paint accents and 80's stereo equipment and 80's music. Use the interior for entertainment as well as beach transport with beach chairs, umbrellas, a grill and such stuff. Get some ideas from VW vans of the era and even with a moderate engine it will be a winner. I would do a Jackson Pollack treatment to the roof. I had a 1993 E350 15 passenger van, similar color and it was truly a great vehicle for traveling about. I have no doubt it is still running today.

The ideal would be for the Van to become a tow vehicle and command post on trips to the track but I'm not sure if that straight six has the muscle to pull a trailer or not. That said, install an RV AC unit on the roof, and an AC converter with a spare battery or two for static power, put in a mini-fridge, a coffee maker, a microwave, window curtains and a fold out bed and you're good to go. It might be worth replacing the straight six with a V8 but it does run pretty good so maybe stick with what you have for now. It's a pretty nice van. Great work! Loved the video.

Ok. Been thinking. Having bitten off WAY more than I could chew with a minitruck LS project, I'm going with build the 6. Send it out to the machine shop, rebuild and cam. Forced induction of course. Scrounge an Offenhauser intake, big ol carb or better yet bolt on EFI....

Budget rebuild, definitely! Can't believe there is so much... -van left! But I guess I got to, I'm looking right at it! (Yeah, I came from VGG :D ) Seriously, this is a battler, a survivor. Pull the engine/tranny, rebuild and paint it, fix rusty floors and frame where needed, tractor paint on power barn and cargo floor, fix steering (power steering?), low budget interior, then do what needs doing to the engine to vroom it up a bit! -Like you said, a fun cruising van!

Keep the 3 on the tree, love the slot mag idea with some fat white letter tires, and just a little rake to the front. Maybe a period correct chin spoiler. Have to have some amber fog lights on the front, and smoke tint windows!

Nice job of first the rescue with Derek, then this cleanup to make it presentable. Your thoughts about keeping it more or less stock are right on. As for building it up, I'd toss the little six and replace it with either a 300 six, or a mild 302. Nothing fancy, but set it up with a modern TBI setup instead of a carb. No lowering, just some wheels and tires. Clean up the inside, maybe some seats, carpet, etc. and use it as a run around vehicle, parts hauler, shop truck, etc. It deserves to continue to live a utility life, not turned into a 70's era love van.

I found you through Derek's channel so this is looking good. I got kind of a crazy idea that's definitely up your alley. Period built Tow Camper. Keep the I6 in either 240 or 300 flavor, bump up the power with a reasonable supercharger for practicality when towing, and give it a retro style that is uniquely your own. Might try watching the Top Gear Africa Special for some ideas on making it practical to sleep in. I did that for a year in my Expedition and it was pretty comfortable being able to stretch out in the back after making some pork chops on a butane camp stove in the middle of nowhere.

Love how your giving this vehicle a new lease on life after others left if for dead. 😀 Also for the Build keep it simple. New wheels (partial Cragar five spokes or slotted mags myself), new shocks and maybe fix what I think was the idler arm on the steering linkage, shocks and basic suspension repairs, HEI distributor conversion. Make it a "Goin to town rig" As Derek would say.
