I'm mainly into it because of the gameplay and the music. Yes, i'm on a crusade to play all of the games in order and i am currently on 12.3, lol I have varying opinions on the games I already finished all of the soundtracks (not including albums, cds, and other stuff), though xD There are certainly some hidden gems in the music especially in those .3/.5/.8 titles! Also, I don’t really care about the characters despite knowing dozens of them. Honestly, they only appear as brief dialouge moments, so they're alright, but not notable to me, I guess. I don’t want to call myself a "Touhou fan", though. I don't like associating myself with fandoms
I'm a musician and I've always been fascinated by ZUN's compositional style and how complex it is. He's one of the great MIDI masters, as many other people have said. I also like the character designs and how surprisingly complex they all can be, as well as how creative the fandom is allowed to be!
I'm from Egypt. What I like most about Touhou is the music and the nostalgia the art style gives me, what really drew me into Touhou was how it became such an integral part of internet culture and memes. Touhou reminds me of a simpler, less corporate internet that I sadly only experienced a little bit of due to my age.
A Touhou Australian fan here. What caught my interest in Touhou was the characters. Well I was only interested in Sakuya until I started learning more about the other characters and they were all pretty interesting in their own ways. The songs made by fans also attracted me as they sounded so beautiful and of course listening to Zun's music was also great. Well I must say it's the characters and music that gets me
G'day mate, another Aussie touhou fan The memes were the catalyst. "what is this MAD thing, why is it SO good and why is it all referencing this touhou thing" The characters and music are definitely what drew me in past that surface level though
Funny story, Touhou has always been me growing up but I never know. And at the time in 2019 where everything is horrible, and basically Touhou becomes the very thing that "saved" me. I always loves the interesting details, the stories, the character designs, making realise how eastern culture and my own culture (chinese) have alot of simularity, and definity the music. Thank you Touhou for changing my life forever, and ZUN's work will forever hold a special place in my heart.
Thanks ZUN and beatMARIO. Waiting for the next game , there's Touhou lovers from all over the globe, i'm from South america , from Chile. What i love the most about touhou is both the character designs and the songs composed by ZUN. I also can't leave without saying that the doujin part of Touhou is one of the strongest points , so, i sincerely love all of it :D
I got into touhou from the music, then more videos started appearing and now I'm here Other than the official works, the fan creations are also amazing (kkhta, osana reimu, reireimu, suikakasen, etc.)
I'm from Venezuela and I know Touhou since 2017 thanks to Tear Rain in osu!, from there I started playing the games and I fell in love with the way the Touhou lore mixes mythology and true historical facts, it always fascinates me how much research Zun would have done to create those games... and that without mentioning how much Touhou music influenced me over the years, it's such a huge and diverse genre.
I like that it isn't hyper-fixated on morality, or asking big questions about life. Nearly every incident is as simple as an ill-sighted competition, a misunderstanding, or literally play fighting. There's no good or evil, and there isn't necessarily a goal other than learning the perspectives on the incident. And the music. Can't forget the music. Y'all just keep making bangers and fumos!
I like how alchohol is ingrained in the DNA of the series. The community surrounding the series really keeps it feeling fresh. The mythological references, music, and gameplay are also fantastic! Oh it also gave me Mononobe no Futo, my beloved.
It's a blend of the gorgeous music, world and characters (very original), but also just the potential for fanworks to build on it. There's enough small tidbits of information about any one part of the world for someone to make their own content surrounding it, and a plethora of phenomenal music inspired by the main series. I have immense respect for ZUN for making and sticking to such a monolith of a series and allowing the following to create one of the most expansive collective world ever made.
I love Touhou for its characters, musics, games, stories, worldbuilding and its various references to history. And there's also this wonderful community that keeps Touhou alive and make it unique.
I am from Bulgaria and what introduced Touhou to me was no doubt the music. I'm not good at the games and I don't have time to learn to play them so I mostly just look at stories (official and fanmade) with the characters online, and I think that's what makes Touhou so unique- the fact that anyone can make anything with the characters, making a cast that is truly alive. So thank you ZUN for making such a rich and unique world!( I also got interested in Japanese mythology too because of Touhou!)
How are you everywhere? At this point I've probably read like 40 comments by you. There doesn't even exist a single other person on RUclips whom I recognize from just their comments.
Touhou came into my life at the perfect time, about thirteen years ago. Me and my friend found some fan videos, and when I saw him play Imperishable Night I was hooked. I am from Midwest USA and me and my friend would talk about Touhou every weekend for hours on end. I have had some tragedy in my life since, but Touhou has given me a sense of magic that seems "ethereal", especially the setting and music, which was always a place that I could take a mental vacation to in the tough times. I like the lighthearted characters. Personally I really like it when they smooth over a situation over some tea or sake. I love the character design, and I love the wonderfully rich fandom! I got to also understand more about Eastern philosophy at college and it has been quite influential to me. I am so incredibly happy this series exists!
its so cool how much this little indie series has impacted the late 90s and early 2000s generation, i love that it's a comfort place for so many including myself
What first drew me in was the characters, but I stayed for the music before I fell in love with the characters again, then I just started to appreciate the culture around Touhou Project as a whole.
i'm from the UK. what pulled me in initially when i was a kid was the community in the mid to late 2000s, what made me play the games were the music and the character designs, the mythological references and humour as well as the overall light tone is what kept me coming back to the series. though i am not as knowledgeable about the games and lore i used to be as a kid it still holds a special place in my heart.
I've been a fan of Touhou for about 15 years, and it's honestly so nice to see that many people still love and support this franchise today! I think the reason why Touhou is so popular around the world is because I feel like it is very easy to get into at any point for any reason. For me, I got really into the music, the originals by ZUN and the many, many wonderful fan songs created by the community. It's just fun to hear everyone's unique take on ZUN's melodies, and I think it's wonderful that ZUN allows everyone to arrange his tunes in whatever way they like without anyone being worried that ZUN will be "offended" by others "stealing" his music. And I'm sure a song like U.N Owen Was Her? has been arranged and remixed into every possible genera of music that has ever existed at this point, which is of course an amazing feet that not many other tunes can claim.
The music is what got me 1st. "That" Bad Apple video. Then after some research, I was able to play the games, and it hooked me. Gameplay is really good, but the songs are even better. Now I'm deep into the Gensokyo-hole. More than half of* my playlist is composed by Touhou music! Keep it up, ZUN Sensei! Edit: grammar.
Touhou has all sorts of things that drew me in. The amazing music, the fascinating worldbuilding situated atop an interesting moral dilemma, interesting characters, and the gameplay itself being a solid mix of challenging but fair.
I like Touhou because of how ornate it is, and because of how good a lot of the music is. The opening to Story of Eastern Wonderland, as well as Invisible Full Moon, U.N. Owen Was Her, Shanghai Teahouse, Love-Colored Master Spark, and Chirumiru (made from Cirno's theme), plus Forsaken Doll are just some of my favorite Touhou songs. ZUN is very talented as a composer, especially given the limits of the sound hardware used in older Touhou titles. The PC-98 Touhou games had YM2203/OPN1 versions which were only 3 FM (DX7-like), and 3 PSG channels (basically system beeps, except these have the ability to be turned into static and/or other sounds). Thats literally it (though you can make the third FM channel into two half-detailed channels, and if you can afford to use the CPU required, you can use the PSG channels as a DAC, and if you still have enough CPU to spare, you can mix something like the Amiga's four sample channels into that). That particular FM chip got replaced by the YM2608 (OPNA), which added 6 dedicated drums, a sample channel, 3 more FM channels, and stereo on the non-PSG channels. Most people associate this with the PC98. 16 channels (not counting the Channel 3 mode that splits the channel into two less-detailes channels, or the 8 PCM channels streamed down the PC9801-86's DAC via PPZ8). Later ZUN tracks (though not by any means modern) used Roland SC-88Pro MIDI files. The SC-88Pro has 4 times the maximum note count of the YM2608. After trying the SC-8850, ZUN didn't like the results and switch to the SD-90 and then eventually to more modern methods (non-MIDI). I should mention that I've successfully played MIDI files that truly utilize the SC-88Pro's feature set on a Roland SC-D70 without any issues, even though the SC-D70 is newer than the 8850.
Well, might as well add my own two cents. I love the _Touhou Project_ because it feels... hopeful and cynical, in equal measure. Here we have Gensokyo, this forgotten realm of myths and monsters, versus the uncaring world that forgot them. The denizens of Gensokyo look at the odds stacked against them and laugh. They gaze into the abyss and spit in its eye. Yeah, the world sucks; but as long as we have hope, friends, and good booze, you can weather any storm. The _Touhou Project_ is about dancing through the rain of adversity; both literally, and figuratively. It's about learning to survive, and then learning to _live._
I'm american and i found touhou when i was about 10 or 11, years old, and its been a mainstay of my interests even now, at 23 years old. My first nendoroid was satori komeiji, and i play touhou lostword every day. Touhou is really important to me and has helped me meet some of my closest friend's and helped me get through some of the hardest times in my life. I owe a lot to zun's work
Ooh same I discovered it when I was like 16 tho, but I'm 23 too! The series is so interesting for children, teens and adults alike! Also ZUN making all the aspects of the games for most of the serieses, from the artwork, to the music, to the game mechanics was really inspiring growing up!
Man, i love the energy of you two! I first saw touhou when i found a mobile fangame that got me interested, then i try to fimd more games and found Touhou 6. I beat that on lunatic and extra and got obssessed ever since!
I saw a bunch of girls shooting lasers at each other and speaking in riddles and I needed to know more. I still don't have even the faintest clue what this series is about but it's pretty cool.
@@Evgomega Я бы не сказал, что мало. Эта культура достаточно популярна по всему миру засчёт аранжировок музыки из игр Зуна, так я и узнал собственно о тохе.
there are 4 things have contributed to touhou's popularity outside of japan 1. good music 2. fumos 3. the gameplay 4. tan cirno honorable mention: the insane lunatic number of fan works and refrences
I'm not from the US, but I'm from Perú. 🇵🇪 I knew Touhou firstly because of the music & internet memes, but later on after playing the games I got into it, and it suddenly became a special interest of mine. thank you ZUN for making such enjoyable masterpiece works, your games are really, REALLY good. i find them quite entertaining and they're so far the only games I have on PC lol. your characters are very unique, especially Reisen, Koishi and Hata no Kokoro, they're my fav characters atm. thank you so much again for bringing this entire universe to life
Wow! Another Peruvian touhou fan , I never thought I would see someone else from peru that liked touhou lol. Also I wish I could be like you and play the games but I suck terribly so I’ll have to stick to watching gameplays
@@wx84 Oh hey :) believe me or not there's a good amount of fans in Perú, but they're hard to find. Last time I was at a meetup selling Touhou fan merch, there were fans that would buy it, and they were amazed bc they'd tell me .. "i wouldn't have thought I'd meet a Touhou fan here"
@@jgggq I havent lived in Peru for a while so that’s why I never knew and was surprised there were touhou fans there lol. Definitely need to go back there sometime and check, also if I saw someone selling merch I would definitely buy it 👍
What i love about Touhou is its entire cast. All based on japanese mythology, quite impressive, and the fact that they are all created by ONE guy is even more impressive. From Japan (lol)
I enjoy the games and everything that comes from them. It's always nice to see new creations from Touhou and really exciting when ZUN drops new information.
The lore and the music. The meditation-like state one can achieve when focused on the game. These things made touhou series comfort games I keep coming back to.
I love a lot of things about Touhou, but I guess what I like most about it is how...passionate it is? It's hard for me to describe, but between the emotional music and the whimsical, yet somewhat grounded nature of the characters, Touhou just feels jam packed with passion and sincerity in a way that's really appealing to me.
I am not from US, but from Philippines and I would say that there are a lot of factors on why people love Touhou. But for me, what made me love it is music. Music is a huge part of my life. Music in Touhou is what I extremely love about Touhou. I have a lot of favorite Touhou music and most kf my favorites came from Touhou 8 like Nostalgic Blood of the East ~ Old World, that first stage theme (which came out before Touhou 8 in a music album), and Love-Colored Master Spark. Mr. ZUN is so good when it comes to music. That aside, the gameplay of main Touhou games is also what I love about Touhou. The unique bullet patterns, deathbombing, and the insane difficulty is amazing and the games aren’t really forgiving (maybe except for Touhou 8). Lastly, the Touhou community is also what I love in Touhou. Without them, nobody can make Touhou relevant. Mr. ZUN didn’t make games or music, he made a lot of masterpieces and grew one of the best communities I’ve been. Thanks Mr. ZUN for Touhou!
I was first drawn in for how vague and lore was after asking about it. I ended up realizing I've been consuming various Touhou fan content to that point, and from then on I've been diving as deep into the characters, games, stories, and the written works as much as possible. I love the music, I love the style of humor in the games and manha, I love how open and expansive the fan works are, I love the characters, I love the ambiguity to everyone's stories, I love the hard work ane dedication ZUN does when by this point he can just stop and let everything he earns from royalties and deals be all he needs, I love how Touhou is a fun way to take the first steps into Japanese mythology and stories as a foreigner, I love all the content creators that have come from the fan community, and above all else, I love Sanae!
What drew me into Touhou was the music!! It helps make the series special no matter the language barrier. The unique remixes gives loads of spots for musicians to shine no matter where they come from! :3
Amazing setting, amazing music, amazing character designs, lots of room for interpretation, and lots of cool mythology and things to learn about... It's such a magical world ♥ I've been in love with Touhou for like 13 years now, and I've met so many amazing people through it, including my partner. Thank you for making such an amazing series. You two should visit us again soon!!!
Singaporean fan here, I learnt of the game during IAMP days and I loved how unique it was as a fighter revolving around projectile battles. With both the bullet hell and fighters, the creative patterns of danmaku always gave an impression of an elegant dance between the heroines and bosses, as well as the fact that it's set in a world that doesn't take itself seriously despite the myriad of powerful yokai capable of great death and destruction, gives a feeling that no other series has come close to replicating.
i love the music most of all (thanks a bunch to both of you for that, night of nights is the best arrangement ever) but i also really really love the character designs, especially the ones in touhou 17 and 17.5
As a Korean who use English 'cause I can't speak Japanese, a sincere gratitude for the message 👍 Personally, I love the games - especially the personality & philosophy behind it
Well what drew me in was the music and eventually the humour. As I learned more about the characters and the world of gensokyo I started falling More and more in love with it. I love it in the same way I love the Oz book series, a fantastic world with alot of wacky characters 🥰
There are many things I love about Touhou. The basis on Japanese mythology for most characters makes them all stand out in a way different from most other series. The general feel of the cast to me is purely magical. Not everyone feels 'good', but there's no characters that feel amazing terrifying. The story, while being a bit hard to follow, is just crazy enough to fascinate me. And, needless to say, the music is absolutely incredible! I don't think there'll be anything like Touhou ever again.
Texan Touhou fan here (Saki clone #469), I've been in this wonderful niche-but-not fandom for almost over 3 years now, I was introduced to Touhou through the music and became absolutely aspired to play the games. Eventually after about a year I became a good personal friend with my fellow American content creator LunaPrism and are quite widespread throughout the English community, my honest passion for obscure things and a community I've set my roots into is pretty much the main reasons I still stick around! All hail ZUN's blessed 2hu birbs espiecally our lord and savior Tokiko 🙏 Serious talk though, I straight up love this video because not only has ZUN just said he likes America, he's even walked upon these hallowed lands I'm honestly curious what he thinks about a Ten Clownpiece Nugget Meal™ if he ever intends to have one As for American artists, they indeed do use all sorts of Japanese styles, American styled (such as Saturday Cartoon and Genndy Tartakovsky style) Touhou fanarts are extremely rare and usually featured in parody animations. Hilariously, most of the American styled artworks I've seen personally come from non-American artists from the South East Asia along with South American regions being particularly Brazil and Indonesia which is both ironic and interesting. One of my favorite American styles is American comic book style which you can find at just about every nook and cranny however, a perfect example with Touhou arts would be the parody artists who uses mixed styles named Syope over on Twitter/X! Oh but we're not done here just yet, if it's ZUN style that the famous Frauden Ramsey shaming BeatMario is talking about, then there's an absolute boatload to uncover for sure. But just like these two sentences separate from the rest of this goofy Americano's essay I'll keep it short and sweet with an artist you can describe the exact same way known as yakumora_n! Have a lovely day y'all silly readers and I am 100% emptying my wallet for Danmaku Kagura Phantasia Limp Bizkit next week 🙏
I love touhou's story and characters!!! Theyre so charming!!! The music is SO amazing too, I listen to all of it all the time. Same with the doujin music too. I love to draw all of the girls in their cool & cute outfits...Touhou is a worldwide phenomenon!
I love the Scientific Century world in the CDs. Renko and Merry are a wonderful friendship (and maybe more?) but the world they live in and their eventual fate (though that is just theory) is so tragic.
@@Hifuutorian Yeahhhh but Renko probably isn't haha. And the time in between Merry and Yukarvi probably isn't pleasant either. Maybe I'm too affected by Touhou Tumblr, they live for tragic hifuu.
The lovable characters and the disjointed lore makes touhou such a fun world to explore!! But I mainly love the music. All the touhou circles like SOUND HOLIC, Tamaonsen, A-one, Akatsuki records, Shibuyan records, etc. make such bangers all the time ♪(๑ᴖ◡ᴖ๑)♪ ありがと!
As a finnish touhou fan, what I like about Touhou is the beautiful music, detailed writing of the characters and their whimsical fashion. I was introduced to Touhou music when I was 5 years old by hearing the Bad Apple remix by Alstroemeria Records. Since then, Touhou music has greatly influenced the songs that I compose for my games and other games I'm working on. When I transitioned, Touhou was a major source of escapism and exploration and I often dreamed of being a girl in Gensokyo. Thank you ZUN
As a female touhou fan, it’s so refreshing and fun to have a huge (almost) all-female cast of characters with a excellent world and plot that has nothing to do with romance or sexuality. I love how the characters are a good mix of funny, threatening, freaky, and entertaining. The game itself is also lots of fun, and just hard enough so that when you finally get that 1cc it makes you feel so good about yourself. Also I am on my hands and knees begging for official English translations of literally anything…
Yes! The fact that every official touhou game doesn't have any fan service is the thing that i find cool too You can just play the games and enjoy the nice story and characters, only thinking about the story itself and japanese mythology
The characters perhaps? The music? Even the H-doujins. Maybe the community and all the fan content it pumps out throughout the years? I love seeing it persist on the internet for as long as I can remember. Nice to see Zun's still got his Zun hat on and beatmario's as peppy as ever.
You've got fans everywhere around the world! I'm from Europe, specifically, Spain! Your work is so fun and nice. Personally, we love the music and the character designs, the danmaku patterns... Everything, hehe! Thanks for creating such amazing games, ZUN!
I love the cute girls and fun gameplay! I’m a woman myself and I’ve always preferred girl characters, so having a game series with mostly girls is pretty cool
I am from Austria, a country in Central Europe. I haven‘t played a Touhou game but I love Touhou music. I got hooked by Shibayan over 10 years ago. Music groups that I listen to: Shibayan, Get In the Ring, twinkle*twinkle, Felt, Alstroemeria, Akatsuki Records, Amateras Records, Shinra Bancho, Digital Wing, Tumeneco, Sally, Frozen Starfall, Shinigiwa Satellite and Kachi Kachi Yama. I hope to explore more Touhou music. Many, many thanks for creating Touhou. Lots of love from Austria!!
i will never get tired of seeing these cool guys. definitely the music and the fanbase music the gameplay and story is played through religiously, went through an entire arc just reading touhou lore oh and the gameplay is fun too. (grazing flashbacks) "Now beech, get out the way!" Marisa, touhou IN
Please don't forget about Europe! First came into contact with Touhou thanks to the music, but I got drawn in by the world and characters themselves. Nowadays I'm trying to improve on art and I draw Touhou characters regularly.
Same! I'm also from Europe and I found out about Touhou through Bad Apple!!. Now that I'm an (beginner) artist I want to draw the characters. I also like bullet-hell style games (Jsab was my fav game for a long time) and the story is nice too.
Hello, ZUN!! If you ever decide to come back to the US, be sure to come to TouhouFest in Torrance, California! A lot of Touhou fans in the United States come here in April, and we would be more than happy to have you here!
My favorite part about Touhou Project is the wide variety of songs and characters. I got into touhou through the music, and the characters are what really got me interested. I grew a love for Japanese mythology because of Touhou! Thank you ZUN for everything you’ve done to bring together a wonderful English speaking community 🙏
Touhou is well liked by the community, however a good portion of the community in the USA doesn’t appreciate the community itself as a whole due to how Americans view certain content in Japan. Not all Americans appreciate Japanese content, but those who are fans, appreciate it because it’s different since it’s aimed towards Japanese audience, making it very good experience. Don’t change the content for a foreign audience, keep it how it is or you’ll lose the audience from your local and foreign fans. This goes, not only for your awesome Touhou content, but also for all Japanese content and I hope this message reaches you.
Yes, touhou has US popularity, and it's growing by the day, even if slowly. What draws me in is a bit of everything. The music drew me in, I like the games to interest me and the characters and world keep me here.
I’m from Oregon! The coast here is reminiscent of Japan. Words cannot describe my love for touhou. In essence it’s unusually relatable for me. A strong soul connection. I’m so grateful for it all : ) Thank you ZUN!!!
I personally found out about touhou from the undertale fandom, and i started liking it in 2019 but didnt really get into the series until about 2023. I really wish i got more into it earlier because the characters are interesting and well made and the comminity is extremely dedicated!
Personally to me with Touhou I love the games themselves, the dedication it takes as you strive to get better and eventually do your first 1cc and especially the music and everything as a whole. Everything is satisfying, except for when you die on your final life I also really like the fact we can always feel the passion as the games like Touhou 18/19 is absolutely amazing. But that passion has been around even during Embodiment of Scarlet Devil I’m also extremely excited for 19.5 or 20 and can’t wait to tell how much beer was drunk during development The dedicated fanbase is also a pushing factor on why we love the series too :)
From the U.S! It's the way the characters are written, and for me specifically, how the music can evoke parts of their personality. There's something special about how childish these characters act sometimes, so it's like loving a dear friend or family member where you don't always see eye to eye, but are compelled to entertain their shenanigans.
I’m from New Zealand but touhou is very close to my heart because of the feel/vibe of the setting in which it’s cute and peaceful, the music, and of course, as a lesbian, the lesbians. As many of the people in the western community are some form of LGBT, that last sentiment is pretty common, no matter how many people want to tell us otherwise or silence us or harass us. Keep up the hard work, Mr ZUN !!!
I'm from Europe(Austria) and i love everything about Touhou, from character design, to fandom, the music especially and mythology/creatures. I also love that i met like minded people that love touhou and everything surrounded it and made lots of friendships through the touhou franchise. Thank you for everything, daddy ZUN. And also beatmario for basically introducing me to the fandom with his amazing works ages ago.
The design elements, and the dedicated fanbase. I, of course, love the music, and how many arrangements there are. The character designs are also very great. I also love how the story is very open-ended, and can allow fan works to make sense with minor changes.
Everything is great about Touhou But what I love most is, of course, the music and the Touhou doujin music scene. That's why I'm here and that's why I started playing Touhou in the first place! As much as I love playing the games (UFO is my favorite) and as much as I love the characters (Seiga & Toyosatomimi no Miko
I'm from Finland and what initially drew me to Touhou ( before knowing anything about it ) was the characters in the song "Tsurupettan", then it was the gameplay once I found more about it, then it was everything else it had, especially the music and the interesting ways of using different folklore and mythologies for the purposes of the franchise, whether in the story, making characters or otherwise. Big love to Touhou and ZUN! Hakurei Reimu is best girl.
I like all the Japanese mythology and history references, the morally grey but fairly lighthearted cast, and of course the beautiful music.
I'm mainly into it because of the gameplay and the music. Yes, i'm on a crusade to play all of the games in order and i am currently on 12.3, lol
I have varying opinions on the games
I already finished all of the soundtracks (not including albums, cds, and other stuff), though xD
There are certainly some hidden gems in the music especially in those .3/.5/.8 titles!
Also, I don’t really care about the characters despite knowing dozens of them. Honestly, they only appear as brief dialouge moments, so they're alright, but not notable to me, I guess.
I don’t want to call myself a "Touhou fan", though. I don't like associating myself with fandoms
Yeah that's basically it.

I am from Colombia, for what it's worth. Touhou just kinda grew up in me, especially by the amount of love their fanbase gives to this project.
Hello fellow south american
Oh my god, this is so wholesome. But Touhou is loved literally all around the world. The series has infinite potential. I will always love it.
I got into touhou from the music, then more videos started appearing and now I'm here
Other than the official works, the fan creations are also amazing (kkhta, osana reimu, reireimu, suikakasen, etc.)
haha same like me, from rhytem game called osu, then images touhou more appear in my beatmaps
kkhta is trash, I simply have to hate on it whenever I see someone mention it because it's horrible.
Russian touhou fan
The series are quite interesting and has some amazing music
The community is so creative and great
I like that it isn't hyper-fixated on morality, or asking big questions about life.
Funny that These two are drunk as hell lmao and ZUN has many pictures chugging beer
@@MFDOOOOM
Gotten to the point that ZUN straight up made his own beer.
the community is only really cool if you stay in the right parts, which is why i've lost a lot of interest within the past year, sadly

@ES21007 He's like Demoman where his body became a distillery from drinking so much alcohol
Happy to see Touhou is getting worldwide. Very wholesome to see them both being happy and doing message for us, aww
As an American fan, it was definitely the music and the fact that ZUN is based and allows independent works without fear of a copystrike.
As an Italian I love Touhou because it is a series full of girls.

I agree! Even though I used a translator, I agree.

About its characters, they're awesome!! I praise ZUN
There's just so many things to say about this brand, and that's what i like about it.
I got to take a selfie with ZUN once, it was awesome
Man, i love the energy of you two!
I first saw touhou when i found a mobile fangame that got me interested, then i try to fimd more games and found Touhou 6. I beat that on lunatic and extra and got obssessed ever since!
I saw a bunch of girls shooting lasers at each other and speaking in riddles and I needed to know more. I still don't have even the faintest clue what this series is about but it's pretty cool.

What i love about Touhou is its entire cast. All based on japanese mythology, quite impressive, and the fact that they are all created by ONE guy is even more impressive.
From Japan (lol)
there are still some characters like Remi, Flan, etc that were not based on japanese mythology, but ok XD
I enjoy the games and everything that comes from them. It's always nice to see new creations from Touhou and really exciting when ZUN drops new information.
As touhou fan from switzerland, i love the music, how it inspired many people and the mythology based setting
From the UK, I like Touhou because of the fun characters and their designs.
The games are also fun and have an elegant dream-like feel to them.
Doujin music and art!! Many amazing artists in both places..!
What drew me into Touhou was the music!! It helps make the series special no matter the language barrier.
The unique remixes gives loads of spots for musicians to shine no matter where they come from! :3
Girls in hats are very pretty.
A world with girls wearing hats is very very pretty.
I love the beautiful danmaku, the gameplay, the music, and the folklore! And I love the thrill of the challenging bullet hell games!
I like how the Touhou franchise always stays true to itself and always stays true to that "underground"/doujin feel.
Amazing setting, amazing music, amazing character designs, lots of room for interpretation, and lots of cool mythology and things to learn about... It's such a magical world ♥
I've been in love with Touhou for like 13 years now, and I've met so many amazing people through it, including my partner. Thank you for making such an amazing series. You two should visit us again soon!!!
My fun answer would be that Touhou saved my life but in actuality, I just like the music, cast, and Komachi
i like the gameplay, the music, the characters, and the story
Singaporean fan here, I learnt of the game during IAMP days and I loved how unique it was as a fighter revolving around projectile battles. With both the bullet hell and fighters, the creative patterns of danmaku always gave an impression of an elegant dance between the heroines and bosses, as well as the fact that it's set in a world that doesn't take itself seriously despite the myriad of powerful yokai capable of great death and destruction, gives a feeling that no other series has come close to replicating.
i love the music most of all (thanks a bunch to both of you for that, night of nights is the best arrangement ever) but i also really really love the character designs, especially the ones in touhou 17 and 17.5
I simply really like the Touhou games, I've probably spent over 900 hours across all of them combined
As a Korean who use English 'cause I can't speak Japanese, a sincere gratitude for the message 👍
Personally, I love the games - especially the personality & philosophy behind it
Not from the US, but I like Touhou for the gameplay, music, characters, and fandom
All hail ZUN's blessed 2hu birbs espiecally our lord and savior Tokiko 🙏
Serious talk though, I straight up love this video because not only has ZUN just said he likes America, he's even walked upon these hallowed lands
I'm honestly curious what he thinks about a Ten Clownpiece Nugget Meal™ if he ever intends to have one
As for American artists, they indeed do use all sorts of Japanese styles, American styled (such as Saturday Cartoon and Genndy Tartakovsky style) Touhou fanarts are extremely rare and usually featured in parody animations.

They're my favorite parts of Touhou!!!
Though I wouldn't say it's necessarily tragic. Yukari is having a great time.

Yes! The fact that every official touhou game doesn't have any fan service is the thing that i find cool too
You can just play the games and enjoy the nice story and characters, only thinking about the story itself and japanese mythology

Man, I can't tell you specifically why, but I can say after a million words of fanfic, it's amazing.

I personally found out about touhou from the undertale fandom, and i started liking it in 2019 but didnt really get into the series until about 2023. I really wish i got more into it earlier because the characters are interesting and well made and the comminity is extremely dedicated!
I'm a music teacher, and i love ZUN's music! His work is so charming, and there's no one else who has his kind of sound.
Personally to me with Touhou I love the games themselves, the dedication it takes as you strive to get better and eventually do your first 1cc and especially the music and everything as a whole. Everything is satisfying, except for when you die on your final life
I also really like the fact we can always feel the passion as the games like Touhou 18/19 is
absolutely amazing. But that passion has been around even during Embodiment of Scarlet Devil
I’m also extremely excited for 19.5 or 20 and can’t wait to tell how much beer was drunk during development
The dedicated fanbase is also a pushing factor on why we love the series too :)
Touhou is inclusive, a fun sandbox for writing, has a lot of music, great art, and is generally a easy conversation piece among friends and strangers.
The design elements, and the dedicated fanbase. I, of course, love the music, and how many arrangements there are. The character designs are also very great. I also love how the story is very open-ended, and can allow fan works to make sense with minor changes.
Everything is great about Touhou
But what I love most is, of course, the music and the Touhou doujin music scene.
