Very interesting interview! Psychology seems like an excellent choice for a world class athlete. Also on the topic of weightroom numbers I believe his dad mentioned he wanted Mykolas to stay flexible as long as possible. Personally I'm in my mid 40s just getting into throwing again after a quarter century away from the sport so my ship has sailed a looong time ago but I find it interesting to speculate how his training will look 10-15 years from now. I can certainly relate to being unaffected by pressure: for me its because I suck but somehow I still enjoy throwing.
The hammer throw world record has stood since like 1983 or 1985 so isn't that older than this one was? Plus Yury Sedyk's mark of 283' plus has hardly ever been even approached since! So great accomplishment here in the discus but it's not like this is the only massive mark out there! The hammer WR has stood for 39 years now...
The current hammer world record of 86.74m was set about 2 months after Schult threw 74.08m. Sedykh has held the world record for longer than that, but technically THE world record was a little bit younger than the discus world record. Now, though, that hammer record is the oldest by a pretty significant margin I believe.
@@pauliethrows Bob Beamon's 29'2.5" long jump set up in Mexico City in '68 when he almost landed out of the pit, stood seemingly forever growing up. But now Sedykh's mark looks like it may really stand forever. It won't but shoot, like the 33 straight wins by the '72 Lakers...or the 88 staight NCAA D-1 basketball wins by John Wooden's Bruins but there is no doubt, Yuri Sedykh is legend. RIP.
