Love following long. As a soon to be Codger (I'll be 60 this year) and doing the PCT (in 2024) it gives me hope. Not sure if you read this or not but when you guys get to Cascade Locks in Oregon or near there and need some trail angels, let me know. We are minutes away from there.
Great job guys! Seeing the trail brings back memories of my 2019 PCT hike. I hauled 7 liters of water and used every drop over the section you're on. ! It was pretty warm and the cache was a welcome site! There was a trail angel at Walker Pass sharing a feast of fried chicken and lots of booze! I drank 5 cans of Dr Pepper and kept going, up a big mountain you will encounter after crossing Highway 178. Have a great time! Wish I was there!
Gosh, love these videos. And just love all your gratitude - water, scenery, opportunity to be doing what you are doing, friendship, and your whole group/family effort. Thank you.
In the Mojave desert the issue is water, water, and water. Be glad it is not in the 100s. A lady last year talked about a 50 mile stretch across the Mojave desert. She started with lots of water to camp with no water making it across in just 2 days. There was water about 1/2 way saving her from a water less over night. She did one day at about 30 or more miles to get through the water less area. Knowing there is water is a great motivator. Hiking in sand on the beach is lots of work and very exhausting. You are an inspiration seeing you getting to Kennedy Meadows in about 55 days. A PCT attempt even to Kennedy Meadows may be in my future. We used to live in San Diego for about 20 years. We still have a home in near Mira Mar naval air station. San Diego is our part time home.
Looking forward to seeing you make it north of walker pass. we got off there about a week ago to let the snow melt, but a few hikers continued on. and then north of Kennedy Meadows, that's going to be an adventure.
Fellow codger here, I live nearby. Looks like you are nearing Mc Givers cabin, it’s all downhill to Walker Pass from there. The mountain in the distance is likely Kern Peak. Probably won’t see Whitney until well north of Kennedy Meadows. I was up in the Sierra last week north of Walker Pass, still snow in the shady spots, the wildflowers are amazing, also saw a large northern pacific rattlesnake.
Thanks for the wrap-up when you were tired from a long day. 26.6 miles that's great! That water cache was the biggest I've ever seen on the hiker videos I watch. Getting the hotel room sounds like a good idea. Yeah, you gotta let old codger Joe sleep in a little. Older folk, ya know 😏
That's quite a day for a bunch of codgers! Or anybody for that matter! Especially the last bit with the sand. That's hard on the legs. Beautiful sunset!
Woot! Doing great guys! Almost at the Sierra! Im sure you guys are informed of the collapsed bridge on South Fork San Joaquin river. Be safe up there! Looking forward to your videos
Wow that’s a long day. It’s a really dry stretch, even on a cool day like we are having now. Ridgecrest is a good place to Nero. Or zero. Walker pass is similar in topography to what you did in this video so you should be fine. But there are the long water carries. The stretch right before Kennedy meadows is a ton of Joshua trees. That’s when you officially know you are def in the Mojave desert. Even tho Joshua tree National park is in the Sonoran desert. But I think the Mojave has more Joshua trees. Especially right there.
Just be glad you are up and out of the Mojave desert. The Mojave in later spring through the fall can and is in the 100s and up. Mt Whitney is only maybe 7 to 10 days from Kennedy Meadows. The high sierra and the JMT are coming. I have done from Cottonwood pass over to Crabtree meadows to Guitar lake and Mt Whitney. Soon after is Forester pass at over 13,000 feet. The approach by the JMT is on the side of a very steep wall, be careful. Forester pass is the highest on the JMT.
As always your PCT backpack is wonderful to follow and watch for all. Kennedy Meadows has hamburgers, hot dogs, french fries, soda, coffee, and of course beer, lots of beer. There is little beer on the JMT. There is beer at Lake Edison, Red's Meadows, and Tuolumne Meadows.
Boys imagine hiking where you are one month later than today….. the heat no shade the water carries ( no seasonal streams) and the sand. You got one hell of a climb out of birds pass spring road and two more out of walkers pass and Spanish needle creek down to minter creek and to the kern river. Into Kennedy meadows anf the Sierra. Don’t over push yourselves seriously after all you are codgers…. Daily twenties take there toll… Froggy out
Man…., you guys are going to have to strike the label Codgers out of your group name. That morning shot of endless dry valleys looked a bit scary, PCT should drop a few water well working pumps in a few places on the PCT. Great job.
Congratulations on the completion of the first 700 miles of the Desert Section of the PCT. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Down below the thread I posted a RUclips link to Kevin and Leah first PCT 2023 video documentation of Baden Powell
No, not Mt Whitney. You can be forgiven for thinking the highest peak in the contiguous US is distinct, but it's not. There are so many other peaks around it, on a ridge, that from long distance from the south or north you would only see the ridge if you can see it. But you probably can't.
Yeah, I think there are four 14ers within about 5 miles of Whitney, as the crow flies, along with several other 13ers. If I hadn't already hiked up Whitney from the east side, I wouldn't have been able to pick it out from the east side as the tallest peak.
Anyone would understand if you didn’t film from time to time. Send me to Costco and I’m done for the day. Thank you for all these posts. There is just something about you guys that keeps me watching. I especially love the calm, sensible way you approach each days hiking hurdles and always seem to keep it positive. 💪🥾💦🏔️🌅
get rid of the guitar music. it interferes with the dialogue. at the very least turn it to a lower volume than the dialogue. nature sounds better than someone repeating the same licks over and over.
Eating up those miles. You guys are great planners. The views are wonderful. Thanks for sharing your journey 👍
Trail Angels are definitely special people. Another great vlog, thanks for sharing. Epic miles.
Genuine camaraderie, good people and excellent editing and production (Thanks Ms. Rumbles!) ~ you all rock!
26 miles that is amazing!
Another wonderful video. 1:48. I can see the ghost of Elvis in the backpack in front of you
lol

Christ, I can't WAIT for my turn in 5-6 years :D
Thank you for that sunset Joe helps keep my day brighter.
Great job! Love the gratitude pouring out to stay positive :)
Beautiful footage, Codgers! Your videos, as well as Kevin and Leah's, are the best. Go, class of 2023.
Looked like a great day for hiking! Across the desert looks like it would be good hiking conditions.
Great video guys! Thanks for bringing us along. The desert of California is more beautiful than I would have expected.

Congrats on your 26 miles, a marathon. 🥾🏔
26 miles on beautiful trail is awesome. Thank you trail angels for the water.
Thank you
You guys are looking strong 💪 beautiful views, beautiful music ❤ love that it’s your sisters music. Stay strong to Kennedy Meadows!

This is a good time to be walking through there. It can get really hot. ...like in the 100's.

Good burgers at VVR too! And showers, sodas, TV, etc.
Sierras will be interesting this year, probably more so than prior, take care, good vibes your way, Crackerjack.
Beautiful sunset!
Holy cow! 26.6 miles?! I admire you guys. How you do that *and* put up a video every single day, I don’t know. Thank you! I enjoy the vids very much.

I think that might be Olancha. Not sure tho. It is a distinct peak all by itself.

@@daleferm6283 yep I would say definitely Olancha - so cool to see that from their vantage point !
I just did a Google earth image from there location near Piute Peak and you can see Mount Whitney. However I can still be wrong but I would bet on it.
What are you using for a camera and sound recorder? Great videos!
Just an iphone11
@@hikingwiththecodgers4086 Kudos for a steady hand! Really enjoying the videos. Have a great hike!
What size are your backpacks? 55 liter?

Freebie is back in Ohio stuck dealing with unplanned home repairs. He is bummed.

Any wildlife sightings?
Mostly lizards but Katherine (aka two snakes) saw a couple we think were a king snake and a racer.
Marathoners.
Got a email ? I will share some overflight intell photos of the Sierras
Stay safe
love the music but sometimes it is way too loud to hear the commentary
Thanks for the input. I try to be sure it isn't too loud, but I think better speakers make it louder.
I have not had a problem. Love the music.
Hi Hiking with the Codgers -what brand of sun gloves is No Filter using?
