The NexDock is a convertible laptop shell, with none of the traditional computer stuff on the inside - instead relying on whatever you connect it to, to do all the work. It’s compatible with any phone that offers a desktop mode - Samsung DeX being the most recognizable one. Previous versions of these Lapdocks have always required a wired connection but now they’ve added a wireless option too! It uses miracast to wirelessly cast to the lapdock’s screen, and bluetooth to wirelessly connect the keyboard + trackpad.

Most definitely, instead of taking a tablet or laptop for $300 you can use this for media consumption and definitely DEX which I would use much more lol and being able just to use on Nintendo switch is a no brainer. With at least 90hz and 1440p and bigger battery this shell would be much more Awesome .

As someone who has owned the wired Nexdock 360 since 2021, take into consideration that the wired connection over time gets loose and causes screen flickering/disconnecting to the point where you have to set the phone in JUST the right position. I would take this wireless version over the wired version hands down. Even with the frame rate drop. I never use my wired Nexdock in "tablet mode" because it's too awkward with the phone hanging off attached to the side. Nexdock will probably improve the frame rate in the future. I'll probably wait until then to upgrade. But SamsungDex will always be improving, and being able to "improve" your laptop/tablet with the new phone that you upgrade with your wireless plan every couple years is truly the best part about Nexdock... Also, make sure your M2 screws stay tight on the bottom, I've had several fall out and replaced... Also, get a small retractable-cord travel mouse, and you'll never have to worry about the palm stuff, and it's way more productive.

Interesting that your USB-C port is failing.. I've got the UperfectX, I ended up paying to get it repair (although I'd say it's only 80% repaired) The USB port boards are probably the same, and there is simply not enough to keep it secure.

It definitely works well in combination with a Z Fold. It’s also a great option in combination with an M1 iPad or surface go now as well. Samsung bring back Ubuntu on DEX as that was amazing!

I don’t use this stuff but it seems cool. How important is portability for this thing? I feel like an interesting way to use this would be to have a slot to dock the phone via USBC where the trackpad would otherwise be.
You would likely need a thicker and larger 16:10 chassis to make it compatible with bigger phones. But you could put in a deeper travel keyboard and giant battery with the extra space.

If I was still in school, for the price, I'd buy these things. I instead opted for a Samsung Tab S7+ and it pretty much was all I needed for note taking, homework, online class meetings, and more for my Masters program. Granted I could have saved myself more money than buying the Tab S7+ but I figured it was a good investment. That thing is my media consuming, game playing, and occasional web browsing/note taking system for things I do like programming. Little by little Android gets better, but still needs so much to catch up to the iOS and Windows apps in regards to first class apps. Often times it just feels like Android devs only do work for phones only or don't put effort into larger displays. I think Android is quite mature as an OS to provide the tools there, but the support of it isn't because let's be honest, most don't see a reason to invest the development time into it. I get it, the market is a very niche group until a major product like Android laptops or something become hot sellers.

I know a niche techie cluster thinks that smartphones, because they are powerful, can operate as a laptop, but the cons are too many to make this a sensible choice for the vast majority. For a start, I just checked on Amazon UK, and I can buy an OLED 16GB/512GB/2.9K/90Hz ASUS laptop for twice the cost, which will be 10X better. If I could not afford the extra but needed a laptop regime, I would pay less for my phone to afford the ASUS.
So, for me, DeX remains just Android with a Windows UI, which is, for many, too restrictive (no s-pen support for one). If Android was enough, then I would instead buy a Tab S8 for just a bit more (UK prices)

The benefit with wireless is that you don't need to have your phone laying on the table or balancing next to you on the sofa. You can leave the phone in your pocket, or tuck it safely away at the cafe. You can also pick up the phone and go take a call or grab some food etc. without breaking the DeX connection.

It is hard to justify the $300 price tag considering Samsung Galaxy Book Go is only $50 more with full laptop experience and much much better battery life.

You can't boot from a USB - there are no brains in the lapdock.

"Dex" has stood for "Decentralized Exchange" for over a decade now. There are thousands of Dexs, both inside cryptocurrencies and outside of them. Predating them, even.
What exactly is samsung trying to steal that anachronism to mean?

Lots of acronyms in IT have multiple meanings depending on field, nothing new and aren't "stealing" from each other. "Samsung dex"= desktop experience
