I listened to this for the 1st time. I enjoyed the 2nd half more than the opening and overall found the textures to be a bit homogenous, string heavy and if I must say, the overall symphonic weight of it a bit thin for my tastes.
And I've always found Bernstein's opening sluggish. De gustibus non est disputandum ! Have you listened to Ormandy and the Philadelphia? My personal favorite overall I think. Those lush Philadelphia strings mate perfectly with Harris' score. And I most certainly agree this is a landmark symphony.
Thank you for sharing and reminding me how much I love this piece
I am happy about any record of Harris that I do not know. Leinsdorf`s version was new to me. Thank you for posting.
Superb! This was a real treat to listen to.
Merci pour avoir posté cette oeuvre très belle et représentative de la symphonie américaine de cette époque.

Greatest american symphony (with Ives) !
A landmark symphony. The opening is far too fast for my taste. Bernstein's recording is definitive.
