I just purchased the 1634d at my local Walmart for $124.00 dollars. I had the 1034d in my Amazon cart, but for 75 dollars less I got the 1634d. I am so happy to hear you say they are basically the same machine. I have sewed for a lot of years but never serged. Love your videos.
What an amazingly clear and to the point video. Thank you for sharing it. I’ve never used a serger before. I just received one as a gift and have been so intimidated by it, so I really appreciate you doing this video!
You did a great job explaining things. Thanks for showing me the easy way to thread it. I didn’t know I had to oil it so I did that. I appreciate the tips. Thanks for sharing!
I have sew for many years and never thought I needed a serger, reason being i never really looked at what they do. I just usually see them in the store. I recently decided to watch a video to see what the serger and wow, i am kicking myself for not getting one sooner. Well now to have fun working and getting to know my serger. I have the 1034D.
Yes ma'am! It truly kicks up your sewing garments a notch for sure! Very professional and now you'll want to serge EVERYTHING! lol Happy Serging Mz.Pam!! :)
Thank you so much for walking me through this un-boxing. I'm getting ready to purchase my first Serger and it's refurbished on e-bay. So, I was a little skeptical. I feel better about hitting the "buy now" button. I'll certainly be back if I need a refresher. Thanks again!!
This was super helpful! I'm looking into getting a serger since I've just began sewing clothes for my kids, and this is looking more and more like one that I want to get! Thank you for making this video! =]
Thank you for your detailed and simplified tutorial. I have to mention that you keep referring to the foot pedal or foot control as a presser foot, this is incorrect and confusing to new sewists. A presser foot is located right where the needle/needles are and help guide fabric as we sew. A foot pedal is where we press with our feet as we sew to give power to the sewing machine. 🙂
Have the same serger. Just getting serious about actually using it. After playing, a bit, finally put new cones of thread on it yesterday. Thank you for sharing your insights. Appreciated.
Liked and subscribed. I'm going to pick up my Brother 1634D serger tomorrow. This was soooo helpful and watching in advance has taken some of the anxiety out of using it for the first time. Thanks
"When one breaks, I just buy another one?" What is the life span of these? So much for quality. I had considered buying a Brother for my first serger and now I think I will reconsider.
Lifespan varies with this one. And YES! If you can save a little extra for a better one, than you should! However, this serger is great for beginners or those who don't want to spend as much on one. Right now, I've seen this one on Walmart online for $134, which is a super bargain!
Do you like this one as well as the 1034d? I'm not sure which I want but I'm definitely getting one. I've sewn for almost 50 years but never had a serger and I'm sooooo ready to buy one. I'm tired of using my sewing machine for fake serging..lol. All I'm doing is sewing the same garment twice. I've wasted so many hours doing this. I'm ready!! 🤣 Just not sure which one. I've had the 1034dx in my cart for months.. I figured it's better there than in my closet. Lol. Thanks for any suggestions!!
The 1634D is exactly the same as my 1034D. I can't tell the difference of the 2, besides the color changes and the name change, lol I think you will LOVE it! For someone that has sewn for 50 years, you will definitely benefit from having one. It's an investment that will make all your sewing project items more professionally finished. You won't regret it! And just the ease of using it, its perfect for first time serger buyers in my opinion. :) Don't hesitate and buy it! lol And come back here and let me know when you do!!! Happy Sewing, Luisa ;)
@@luisalove30 This is ironic. Lol. I kid you not I had JUST hit checkout when this notification popped up. I'll take that as a sign it was meant to be since I've struggled with buy or not to buy. I've wanted on for so long and my daughter is graduating in two weeks with her RN degree so I finally felt I've got her through and could start getting myself some things. Lol. I did order the 1034DX tho simply because everything is on the right side and my left hand is very limited as to what I can do. I'm really looking forward to getting it and REALLY appreciate your input. I had this one in my cart for weeks but my mother kinda reminded me of my left hand limitations. I didn't think it'd be a problem but what do I know, I'm so used to it. Lol. Thank you so very very much. I've been rewatching your videos and it's helping me a LOT. I'm more excited now that you say you love them both. I was 5 seconds away from this one. I hope I made the right choice. We'll see I guess. Lol. I can always exchange it. I'm doubting myself now, can ya tell? Lol. Sorry about writing a novel. I'm excited 😊😀
Hi! Will this serge perfectly throw out multiple layer of fabric as PUL- wooven- I’m into doing cloth diapers and pads and need one ASAP bu not sure if the foot go any higher for the layer to pass thru have been looking for videos but haven’t find any......!? If you can suggest! Thank you
I"ve have gone through a couple layers of denim, and it works well. Just go slow over the thick parts. BUT, it should work fine. ALSO, you can also sew those layers together using your sewing machine and then use your serger to finish off the edges! I've done that several times too.
Mil gracias.
I am new to learning to serge . Do u think this would be good and easy ? And how hard is it to do rolled hems ? I was trying with my moms simplicity sl350 which was old but never used and i just didn’t understand 🙉please advise me

Yo tengo esta reparadora 1634 y quisiera aprender a defenderme con ella en mis costuras.
Perdón remalladora serger
This machine is currently on sale (6/14/19) at some Wal-Mart stores for as low as $49
Yes! I know you can look on brickseek . Com to find the nearest location to you. What a lucky find for those who are able to get one!
Love my machine. Enjoy
Yes, me too! Sew easy to use! 😊
Thank you!
Thank you that so helpful
Unboxing a brothers sewing machine
I am new to serving and bought the 1634dx but no video in box, know where to get one?
You should be able to find a lot of videos online .
Your other serger only lasted you a couple years? But you bought another one of the same?
A friend gave me this serger and have yet to use it or any.
I have the same serger

How would you set it up to sew velvet.?
Tensions would be the same . If anything you may need to do 4/4/5/4
Except pay attention to which way the nap runs. Soft fuzzy side going up or down.
there are differences between the 1034d and the 1634d
Thank you sooo much. This was super helpful and you’re right; it was scary.

Is it a brand new one or refurbished ? I saw it on sale at walmart now with refurbished condition , is that good to buy?
New. I bought this one at Walmart and total was $200.
@@luisalove30 Thanks you, your video is really helpful.
Can I refill the ordinal spools that came with the machine
I've never tried, so i'm not sure how well that would work. :/
Do you recommend this I’m trying to figure out what to get spending the least amount of money
It's a good serger for beginners. I just got the 1634DX and I'm excited to practice with it.
Also I can’t find anyone to help and give me tips . Would u be willing to help if I needed it ? Sorry , I really wanna learn but feel i will never lol
Is this machine really noisy?
Thank you
Honestly....yes. lol
Yes it is. It's not as smooth as a more expensive machine but it makes nice serger stitches.
Ocupo ayuda en español
Claro que sí! Dígame
En español por favor
I wouldn't buy anything Brother. Not made very well.
