This summer I've been letting myself fall back in love with the Society for Creative Anachronism. There have been some moments that have been hard for sure, but also some of my moments of greatest joy. One of the things I realized was I had completely forgotten what I need to pack in order to go camping in the different environments we see across the Western United States, at SCA events. This video does not speak in any official way for the non profit group or any of its branches. I simply wanted to share some of my pit falls and learning curves I've experiences over the years.
I am a list maker. So I started planning for my second camping trip of the summer by making a list of the things that I would need to have cleaned and packed after my first trip did not go as smoothly as I had hoped earlier this summer. Towards the end of the video I give you 6 tips I've picked up from camping at these events for more than 15 years in Arizona, Colorado, Oklahoma, and Idaho.
I know bullet journaling is not my normal content around here, but you could take the same approach to plan several costuming trips to fancy bed and breakfasts, or to go camping in the middle of no where. Where ever you take your vacation to this summer I hope you have a blast and get a little costume time mixed in with the rest of your activities. Do you often go camping with costumes? Tell me about your next trip, or your dream trip in the comments below. Some of my favorite SCA camping events include Battlemoor (Colorado), Pennsic (Pennsylvania), Uprising (Idaho), Highlands War (Arizona).

Thank you for watching! Please share any tips you might have for how you prepare for a historical camping event.

    Lots of great tips. Thanks.

Battlemoor was a real sanity test for all of us who have not camped since before the Plague. Oh the things we forgot, misplaced, or needed to replace. While we've not forgotten petrol, we did forget propane one year. That was an expensive lesson. Over the winter, we too will be making a comprehensive list of what we need for next year's camping season.

Before the season started, we used to do a dry run setup in a yard or the park. I'd also print out a copy of the lists and put them in with each container. Check to make sure the same goes in as came out.

I love the idea of lists as a collection. I think making them in your best hand (if u do calligraphy) then either laminate or use page protectors (easier to edit). Make lists w boxes or bullet points using temporary markers & keep in a ring binder saves time & supplies. If u do calligraphy it’s a great project or just practice exercise as well.

Heading to Autumn War (AnTir) and this was very useful. I haven't been to camping event since a couple of years preplauge so the reminders are good. One of my personal tricks is for those who cant sleep if they are cold. I use 12 volt or USBheated blankets inside my bedding to warm it up before I go to bed. A pretty simple solar power setup will run them and with a lower risk profile than the tent heaters. I also find it more effective. Warm tent air doesn't really translate to warm bed for me, where I camp.

I’ve gotten all the way to camp and realized I wasn’t sure if I’d make it back for fuel… I did, but only because I was less than 15mi from a gas station.

Did u put a pdf of ur lists somewhere?
