    Great tutorial, best one I've seen!! Only problem I'm having is, when I try to only select the bones of my knees, it selects some other stuff too because those are within the same threshold.

    There is one more software that you should look at. It is Sculptris, a FREE sculpting software. It is a very easy software to learn. Anyone can learn it within a few days or a week. It is for sculpting digitally.
    If you have Sculptris, you could import that skull into that program and add a clay sphere for the gaping hole in skull. You sculpt that clay into shape. When finished, export two models in OBJ format, import them into Blender and use the boolean modifier to extract the shape of a cap for the hole in the skull.

      For sculpting in Sculptris, one would need a graphic tablet like Wacom Intuos or Huion. Huion is 1/4 cheaper than Wacom. Both brands have the same 2048 levels of pressure sensitivity. I use Huion H580 for medium monitor and Huion H610 for a large monitor. If the tablet ever gives problem, always download its latest driver update from its official website.

    I am just learning about 3D printing. On the Hole face on the scull what is the point of making small triangles??? Thanks. Nice tutorial.

      It is less likely to produce errors when printing. Triangles are the simplest polygon so they make the most precise surfaces.

    Great video. Thank you very much. I have done the whole process and it works. However, I have tried with one of my dental ct scans and I am so stuck. I cannot pass the ROI growing 2d/3d. I would appreciate if anyone had some suggestions :)

      I just released a new tutorial that will help you. It bypasses the whole ROI growing and generates a 3D printable bone model with one click. Here is the link. I hope you find it helpful. ruclips.net/video/M70sAQUAltw/видео.html

    thanks for the tutorial! I want to know what material did you use for 3D printing the model and what resolution did you use for the 3D printer also what is the name of the 3D printer used for the printing and what types of 3D printers works best? Thanks.

    • @Embodi3D
      @Embodi3D  8 лет назад +1

      +Khan Samiuzzaman The model was printed on a Formlabs Form1+ printer at 0.1 mm. There are a variety of 3D printers that will work for this type of application.

    Help!!! I wanted to see if I could create a 3d model of my meniscus using an MRI scan (prior to visiting my doctor to hear his interpretation). At the osirix-viewer.com website, I assumed I should install 'OsiriX Lite' (which claimed it had all features of the commercial $699 program). When I run OsiriX Lite, the top menu bar does NOT include the set of 6 icons above phrase 'Mouse button functions' - and therefore I am unable to do any segmentation for my image. In fact, my top ribbon bar looks pretty different than shown in your video. Any thoughts or suggestions?

    Hi thanks for the Tut. One question: How must I export DICOM file from a 3D/4D Ultrasound?

    • @Embodi3D
      @Embodi3D  8 лет назад

      Ultrasound is difficult to convert to 3D printed models because the images are not registered in space, unlike CT and MRI where images have precise spatial coordinates. Anyone know how to do this?

      You could check out a list of medical 3D softwares here. I don't know if they are of any use to you.

      Embodi3D, I just have found someone who might greatly interest you. His name is Christopher Ryan Leggett. He first developed an interest in Blender when he was a medical student. He has a great multitude of interests including programming languages. He is a member of Bioengineering International Society.

    Hi, thank you for this useful video.
    I have one short MPEG video with 3D image of pulmonary artery (rotational angiography). I need to convert it to stl model for 3D printing.
    Could you advise how I can do that? Thank you in advance
