I was 15 in 1971 when I saw this man on local TV. Lucky enough to see him live a few months later. The first of many times! Look how cute Boz was back then! We are both old asses now! Lol!
Perfection LIVE, what a vocal performance! The horn arrangements sound like Chicago and that is a compliment! Boz, you have been criminally underrated by some, but real musicians know better...
Yes they are. He has taken such good care of his voice. I saw him in Vegas last year (50th birthday present!!) and it was the best present I could have ever received. He was soaking wet at the end of the night from playing and singing so hard!
@@jinx9757 This is the band that made the Moments album in 1970 and Boz Scaggs & Band in 1971. Jymm (Joachim) Young on the B3 organ and Doug Simril on electric keyboard for "We Were Always Sweethearts" - Doug was also one of the guitar players in the band.
@@willharris3798 Will, thank you. I suspected as much. They are killing it! Session/backing players don't get enough credit, so in my small way, I like to recognize them by name and find out what happened with them.
Saw Boz Scaggs tonight at Talking Stick in Scottsdale - been listening to him since '71 - first time I got to see him in person. Maybe the best concert I've ever been to. except I could have listened to them all night. Got to hear Loan Me A Dime for an encore! Great show!
Just saw Boz for the 5th time last night. The first time was 1974. Class, talent and and a golden voice to this day. Love you Boz thanks for an incredible evening!
Love this song, and video. Gives me freakin' goosebumps. I like that Boz stayed true throughout the years with the horn section. They're always badass.
A little coffee joint in my hometown (southwestern NH) had this song on the jukebox. I was about 16 or 17 at the time. Must have been 1968 I guess. I swear I single handedly wore that old 45 rpm record out. It still gives me a sweet rush when I hear it. Boz is one of the all time best! Thanks so much for the video.
I was looking for a Gibson ES 335 style guitar in the early '70's and one of the guitars they pulled out at Leo's in Oakland was the guitar Boz is playing in this video. It's an ES 330 with humbucker's replacing the original P-90's. I ended up with a '66 Epi Riviera that I still have to this day that I bought from some guy named Dean Markley. I hear he had some success selling strings. ;-)
Had the "Moments" album since 1972 and I just realized that the guitar/keyboards intro to this song is lifted straight from Archie Bell and the Drells 1968 classic "Tighten Up."
Funny story....back in 72' in Vancouver,Boz made his first appearance and after opening his set with this song, said,"we've been planning to come up her for sometime but the word down our way(san francisco)is that you guys are a tough crowd." At this point,I yelled "Fuck You"...to which Boz started to laugh and said,"Fuck You too"...the rest of the evening was magical..............
Wow! Thank you for this clip! Amazing, and so many impressions, like couldn´t they find a little higher microphone stand to the saxophonist? :) And when the brass section plays percussion one of them stands smoking! :) That´s kind of funny.
Good grief I was in the 8th grade when this song came out on the airwaves. brings back a lot of good memories but more importantly this was and still is one of my favorite boz scaggs songs! alright boz! check out downright woman on the same l.p. or disc "moments" good one too!
Boz is cool. I started with the music in Sept 1972, first college roomie bought Moments, I've been a fan ever since. Orpheum Theater MSP Spring 1973 was an excellent venue for an excellent band. Envision Steve Miller, Ben Sidran and Boz reunited from the UW Madison Wisconsin days. What a great time that would be.
That is very New York jazzy-rockish-blusey-funky-soulful music. I think of David Letterman's band whenever I hear this. That sweet Hammond B3 organ. I first heard this on the radion in late 1975 at age 11. I did not even know who Bozz Scaggs even was until "It's Over" was played on the radio and heard by me in the spring of '76. My mother and I heard it in the car and she complained that 610 KFRC AM of San Francisco kept playing it over and over again every other song. "It's Over" but Dr. Don Rose didn't seem to think so!
I was never a huge Boz fan even back in the late 70s when he had that string of hits including JoJo. However I came across a documentary about Bill Graham and the Fillmore. Bill was talking about his ability to spot great talent and then they showed Boz playing back in 71 at the Fillmore...i was stunned on how good it was wow. And this performance as well... so it's safe to say that I am now a huge fan of his early work. As I watched this I kept wondering why he didn't become more of a huge star back in the early 70s but then I remembered what he was dealing with for competition....Zep, Stones, Skynard, etc etc etc ....anyway I love this footage thanks for posting...
Boz is resident of SF Bay Area ( has own restaurant there ; “Slims ) Seen him live many times , very real dude ; at Cal Expo Sacramento watched him really gesturing to his band “faster”
Well..Slims is not a restaurant it is a music venue. Way, way back Boz was part owner of the Blue Light Café. Long gone now. Boz was living in the Napa area a few years back. Lost his home to the wildfires. He is back in San Francisco now, just like the old days.
I was there to. I lived in the Mission district and BART was under construction and the Cable Car was only 25 cents. Now it is 5 dollars. Those were the good old days.
whenever I hear this song I think of a time back when I was a kid and my mother and I were riding on the bus in the Bay Area. I miss my mother and I love this song. ah the good ol Days
Off "MOMENTS ".. a great record. Lying out together, and never mind the weather. Album might have been a terrible commercial failure but not a bad song and many great timeless songs
I have to agree Moments was a great record. I was in Vietnam and a friends brother sent him a bootleg pre-release of Moments on cassette and he made me one. I still have it and treasure it to this day. I no longer play it but the CD sounds better any way.
Best song ever written, it has it all Flawlessly constructed. They played the crap out of this around 1969 I believe. Never gets played on any classic station. Weird
I was shacking with my future wife when Silk Degrees was released. We acquired a dog from a neighbor. I wanted the name Lowdown, but my g/f won over with doggie becoming Boz.

No other Boz song comes close to being my favorite. When I think of Boz Scaggs, I think of this song.
Very cool and good pal, Tom Poole on trumpet!
I remember Boz from his early days in San Francisco back in those days, late 60s. Yeah Baby... :)
Such energy!

His voice is still golden 50 years later.
this is the tune that turned me on to Boz Scaggs back in 1971. I have been a fan ever since!
The Good Ole Days..... 😎

Great Video! Never seen this footage before. Mel Martin playing the flute and
saxophone. song is We were always sweethearts.
Boz still sounds great today. What a great voice.
His vocals today are just as incredible and pristine as they were in 1971.........what a class act!
This is a mighty track
Boz Scaggs is cool in all the right ways!
in 1977 he would be the toast of the airwaves with silk degrees. i saw him at alice tully hall right after that album came out.
the forgotten top 10 Boz tune. 1971 upbeat, funky always loved this one
By far, this was his best band, performing and writing, period..!
i agree. I got to see this band a few times.

Broncing in SE Oregon, my buddy telling me to listen to Boz Scaggs in 1972. Loving the hard time.
This is great footage of early Boz Scaggs, who is still a great singer to this day. Thank you for posting this!
Just recently got into Boz (I'm 45) and this one is one of my favorites! Thankyou for the awesome video!
Me too !
What? You got a lot of catching up to do. Trust me, you will enjoy it!

Love the flute solo.
Love all of it, actually!

Amazing how close this live version is to the studio recording, especially considering the circumstances. Excellent live band ~ love the horns!
