  • Hi all. I hope you enjoy watching this video. I used a plastic urn style planter to cast a beautiful cement pot that will last for years to come. I used a mixture called papercrete. It is a lightweight concrete mixture made from paper pulp, portland cement, and sand or perlite.

I find this to be an amazing project, but you leave me with so many questions….such as what was in green can that you sprayed inside of pots? After sitting enclosed for 2 days was that water you poured over and into? Was water hot or cold or does it make a difference? What was the orange circle you put under the bottom piece? Was what you painted on - a watered down quickrete or was it a watered down paint….because you spread it with a tongue depressor on the top one - left me wondering.
Also do you think it possible you could do the buttermilk moss making recipe you find on-line to give it that aged look of old statuary?
Sorry for the questions, but I do have one of these pots I could make more inexpensively than buying.

      No problem.
The green can was olive oil cooking spray. Thats what I had on hand, but you can use cheap cooking oil or anything that will help release the mold.
I poured hot water on the plastic to help it release.
The orange circle was a turn table to make it easier to paint.
I painted it with grey acrylic paint and water. It makes a wash. I used a paintbrush on all of it.
Yes, I think a moss recipe on it would work great.

Water ratio to Portland cement, paper pulp and peat or how is that determined?
Also do you suggest an outer/inner spray sealant? Thank you for being incredibly patient with me. You are amazing

What is the liquid you brushed on it?

Do you mean the paint? It was acrylic paint mixed with water.

Sorry - rewatched….forgot to ask how many parts of water and what consistency do you suggest?

Are you talking about water to paint ratio? I just eyeballed it. It is maybe 1 part paint to 10 parts water.

I know, right! I don't get it. I guess because they're doing one craft project and not three hardcore projects in one day, more casual.😉
