Fun fact: the guitar solo is ACTUALLY Dimebag Darrell himself. It’s a solo he recorded for VDoP, but never used it. Vinnie Paul gave the recording to Nickelback and allowed him to use it.
For those that don't know, this is a tribute song for Darrell "Dimebag" Lance Abbott. Dime was the guitarist for a metal band called Pantera, after their break up, dime and his brother vinnie started a band called damageplan, one night when the band was playing at a concert, an ex marine went on stage and shot dime to death in front of his brother and many people! R.I.P Dimebag

KillaRock881 Dude, they are definitely not the only ones to write a tribute song about Dimebag Darrell. "In This River" by Black Label Society, "In The End" by Anthrax, "Betrayed" by Avenged Sevenfold, just to name a few tributes to him.
This song fills me with an extreme amount of rage and sadness. Hits me hard. Long Time Pantera fan, Nickleback did an amazing job on this song, don't care what anybody says, will always respect them for this.
Awesome to read this kind of stuff man. This song is a fucking heavy hitter for sure. Those riffs do great justice to Dime, and of course his solo thrown in there is just otherworldly.
Too much elitism amongst metal heads. Nickelback are a great band regardless of popularity bullshit. They were *very* good friends with Dimebag and the Pantera boys and it obviously devastated them just as much as us fans when we lost Dime. This tribute is great and for several reasons. Firstly its an awesome song, secondly, its a tribute to the legend himself, thirdly, Vinnie Paul respected these dudes enough to kindly donate various Dimebag solos to the band to create a killer lead for this song. (So if you love Pantera, you can't hate this as it contains Vulgar Display & Far Beyond Driven Outtakes & Vinnie was asked to play drums on it but said the drum tracks were perfect already so he donated the solo outtakes instead) and lastly, its a middle finger to all the metal elitists who think you *have* to hate everything excluding metal to be a true metal fan. I know we all hate on Nickelback, but they were friends with Pantera. Vinnie gave them permission to use this Dimebag solo, and even though they asked him to play the drums on the track, he said that Daniel Adair (Nickelback's drummer) was good enough for it.
Have you checked out the whole Feed the Machine album? Most of the songs are heavier than the ones on No Fixed Address. I guess Nickelback has returned to their heavier roots.

I know this post was made 2 years ago, but you should really check out some of their earlier stuff, they were very post grunge/post hardcore... Songs like Animals, their cover of Saturday's Alright (For Fighting), Flat on the Floor, Because of You, Money Brought, Next Contestant... I think they get a bad name because they tended to release softer songs as singles. But their albums are full of hard rock riffs...
You are not alone. Some people say it's because they rely on songs about drinking & sex, but I think it's the same reason why other people hate Justin Bieber or One Direction, they're just jealous of Nickelback's success.
***** I LOVE nickelback but another reason is because their guitarists are really not that great of musicians but they try to sound so hard of a rock band. also a lot of their songs sound that same. another reason is that they were overplayed as hell the early 2000s, songs like "how you remind me" was played 200 times a day on the radio and people starting to hate them and these days people just jump on the bandwagon and say they "hate" the band when they dont even listen to them or only know 1 song.
***** Everyone hates Nickelback now because their lyrics and music have declined in quality. Nowadays they're seen as cash cows. Sure, their earlier work was and still is great, but with the recent albums they're releasing, Nickelback's sound has turned to "udder" shit. Get it? 'Cause they're cash cows?
I'm not really a Nickelback fan or a Dimebag Darrell fan either. No disrespect to either Nickelback or Dimebag Darrell intended, but as a general rule the type of music they create/created just isn't to my taste. BUT, I LOVE THIS SONG! It's powerful! And Dimebag's guitar playing rocks hard.
I remember listening to this song playing in some random game...i think it was Need For Speed:Wanted, not sure tho.. Oh,and a lil detail some people may know is that this song is talking about the murder of a legendary guitarrist who was shot dead while doing a live show...pretty sad stuff but that's a way to honor the guitarrist ((A little riff from this same guitarrist that was recorded before his murder is used in the middle of this song as well, just to let you know. 2:06)) Thank you Abby for making this video.
As previously stated in these comments, I know all the hate that this band gets. BUT, fellow musicians will more than likely agree that Nickelback is a super-tight band.
