It's so fucking HARD to listen to Alvin sing "but I get up again, you're never gonna keep me down" after everything that happened. And an interesting artifact from one of his many attempts at sobriety; "He drinks a cherry drink" etc. Further analysis shows the rift within the band right on the cover of one of their most cherished albums. Alvin is off to the side and is clearly annoyed to be there. Perhaps one day, we will get back up again.
Ok, I really love this dynamic of people saying that Alvin and the chipmunks were a real band of post punk from the 80's and that Alvin died from an overdose. It makes you get in character and building up to the lore of the chipmunks... I hope it stays that way.
What are you talking about mate? I still have their first album on vinyl, before they lost sight of what the music was really about and got into substance abuse.
I'm glad there is a youtuber out there actually going out of their way to find music that ALVIN supposedly disposed of after his 3rd heroin addiction, opting for a more "ow" sound, things like this are oft looked over in music history, thank you for consistently further documenting alvins downfall.
i'll never forget being an infant, in the studio with my dad, the engineer for the 1998 version of venus. while the band was smoking crystal meth, alvin blew the smoke in my face. that was the day i decided i wanted to become a musician & audio engineer. r.i.p. alvin, you will be missed.
20:45 This sample is actually from their live Christmas performance of "Baby, it's Cold Outside". Simon had forgotten they were performing that day, and had gotten really drunk at a party right before he had to go on stage. His backing vocals were slurred and barely intelligible a la Shawn Rider. Near the end of the song, a crazed fan flashed him, and he fell right in front of her, his face mic picking up the sound she made. The sample became an inside joke among the band and producers, and so it was included in this song without Simon's knowledge. When he found out, he set the recording studio on fire. Much of their music from that period was caught in the fire, and therefore presumed lost (though some dedicated people on RUclips have recovered a large portion of it). It still surprises me that the band stuck together after that.
Apparently Alvin became obsessed with Hunter S. Thompson’s writing during the recording of this album. He was even described as “riding the flying squirrel” several times in the studio which left Theodore fuming most nights.
Unironically, "Tubthumping" and "He's a Tramp" felt like huge improvements. The cost of recording the chipmunks in their viciously drugged states may had lasting physical and mental impacts... But they still had that performer's instinct in 'em until the very end.
You can really hear the Chipmunks' influence in the Venus demo with the Chipettes here. It's a major shame they left Jeanette out of the creative process, though. I can't recall whether that was due to Alvin, Brittany or both being major divas behind the scenes alongside Dave's notorious control freak antics.
I was a roadie during their 87 remission tour, during rehearsal of uptown girl , Alvin felt face down in his own puke. Lucky we had a syringe of pure adrenaline to hit him back.
I cant believe they forced Alvin into the studio after he slammed his girlfriend with that fatal overdose. They had to shove him into the record label's car just as they shoved her stretcher into the ambulance. This recording perfectly captured the guilt he was trapped with inside the mic booth. Dying quietly, soul internally bleeding. Not knowing that by the time he laid this track down, she would be dead, and he would have to lay her down to rest, too.
Hearing the Edited version of Tubthumbping is odd, especially considering the band’s rampant alcoholism and partying during this era.. I much prefer the original.
elvis presley, brian wilson, syd barrett, brian jones, jimi hendrix, janis joplin, jim morrison, alvin

These comments are gay

I saw them live in '93.
That show "went Brown" quick.
Awesome ,though.

What are you talking about? All of this happened. I remember seeing them in '89 Alvin near about fell off stage on top of me
I’m glad you’re enjoying it.. I doubt it’s as much fun for Alvin’s four orphaned children.

Chipmunk lore

That rage in “Unbelievable”. That’s real. There are some who swear to this day that it wasn’t about Dave and the Munks’ upbringing. But it was. 😢
i love youtube
id never listen to this shit if i was ever normal lol
RIP Alvin, you were a true visionary all the way to the end.
Oh man, Roam was fantastic! Those harmonies really shine on 16 speed!
Oh yes they do !

Wow, these comments! Didn't know Alvin had such a dark side.
This is one of the few channels I have post notifications on for. Thanks for the uploads ❤
Neil Cicierega has broken me because I keep expecting to hear "piss" in Tubthumping
I LOVE LEMON DEMON
Alvin and Simon’s fight really ruined what couldve been an amazing band, it sucks that Al is no longer around to reconcile the differences
I was a roadie during their 87 remission tour, during rehearsal of uptown girl , Alvin felt face down in his own puke. Lucky we had a syringe of pure adrenaline to hit him back.
amazing tween pinks floyd vibes ~
Yay there be more
That last track sounds exactly like any given Zappa live album.
i thought their version of 'unbelievable' especially powerful
Ah yes. The Heroin Years of Alvin.

You know that Uptown Girl on 2x speed ain't so bad.
None other than Sir Tom Jones, himself produced "Unbelievable".
ROAM is easily the best track on the album, but I can’t help but hear “Forehead Grows!” Instead of “Go ‘Head Roam!” At the end lol

Holy shit 2:57 gives me chills
Uptown Girl sounds like if Frankie Valli was an opium addict and took acid
