I understand this is an old review by now, but as a fresh-just-starting dj myself, I purchased the DDJ-RR and I am using its 4-deck capability of playing 4 tracks simultaneously. There is an option to be checked in the settings of Rekordbox software. The real downside, however, is trying to control all the EQs, Trims, faders, etc. for each of the overlapping decks. For example if you're playing Track A on Deck 1, Track B on Deck 3: and you drop the Low EQ to lowest level (-26) on Track A, if you switch to Track B, there's no way of knowing where you left that Low EQ level at, and the only way to grab it is to turn the Low EQ knob all the way clockwise until it captures Track B's setting and then it starts shifting it (say to increase the Low EQ). Good features but it gets quite messy when one is mixing live. If anyone is facing similar issues I would love to have a chat about how to best use these 4 deck options. Not a single reviewer out there has discussed this issue in depth. What a missed opportunity!
Hi guys - first of all. Thanks for your work - you are the best channel about DJing ever ! Now comes the question. I used to have and learned on DDJ-400 and Rekordbox - It suited to me quite ok i guess... I am still beginner - learning for 3 months only. Yesterday - some drunk dude spilled beeer into it and it´s not working anymore. So - I am considering now whether to buy new unit of DDJ 400 or go for DDJ RR... Does it worth it? Is the RR too much better, then DDJ 400 to do this upgrade ? Thanks for any answer...
Thanks for the review mate, great content as always! However I own the DDJ SR and was recently having some issues trying to set it up on Rekordbox on my MacBook. I'm thinking of switching to Rekordbox in order to get used to it, so it becomes easier for me to switch someday to the CDJs... I would really appreciate a short tutorial on how to set up Serato controllers on Rekordbox :) Keep up the nice work guys!
+Yamen Helbaoui hey. Firstly have you managed to get the performance mode of rekordbox, either purchased or the free trial? It should work as plug and play however you may have to assign the filters. What happens when you plug your SR in? You will have to choose the sr as the audio device within rekordbox's preference settings which can be accessed by clicking the gear icon in the top right corner. Let us k ow where you're at with it. Thanks
I like your review. However, if I may offer constructive criticism with nothing but respect, please don't overdrive your mic. The audible distortion takes away from your message.
Hey, thx for the video. How well will a mic work with rekordbox via the DDJ RR? --------------------- Which controller/software would you recommend for accessible microphone use? Especially for radio show/mixes.
I'm looking to get into messing around at home with mixing, not looking to do any clubs or events, just personal stuff to destress. Can you recommend this deck for a complete novice? Some of the acronyms you use, I must admit are over my head, but I guess I'll learn, so I also want to know, if I'm better of (future proof) getting a DDJ 1000 or similar. I have a budget of about £1500
I really like the function capture in sample, do you know which other pioneer dj console for "beginners" have this function and you would recommend, please? Thanks
could you please make a video on how to use a vinyl turntable with this system (ddj rr) using DVS records. or do a write up on how to set it up thank you.
Hi Jamie, Im looking at changing my controller from a numark mix pro 3 to either the Pioneer DDJ RR OR Pioneer DDJ 400 what would you recomend? or keep the newmark? thanks
Where can i buy this controller? is there a store or company i can buy it from? My previous one was stolen and i looked on the Rekordbox website and it doesn't show anything but accessories or downloads.
Hi Jamie, I'm looking at getting either this or just a step above what I have now (SB2) and getting the DDJ-400. I've only been djing a couple months but really enjoy it. I'm a student in Leeds so obviously money is tight, which do you think I should go for?
3 years late but which one did you get? I’m in that exact position right now, between this or the ddj-400 for a small upgrade from what I have at the moment
Can you take it of vinyl mode? And if you can, when you press pause does it stutter? Like where the beat repeats itself so you can move the jog wheel to cue the very beginning of that sound or beat???
Thanks for a great review. Im thinking about switching from a CDJ setup to this. Did you have any problems with the tempo fader since its a bit shorter? Is it harder in any way to fine adjust the BPM?
+Viktor B it will feel different initially as yes it's smaller but fine 1 decimal place adjustments are still easy to do and get used to with this controller. We didn't find it annoying when actually playing and mixing on the controller whereas it is annoying with the DDJ RB.
I have this one. Is there a way to play on deck 2 and 3 (or 1 and 3) at the same time. When changing the selected deck on the switch above the trim it mutes one or the other. . Basic question: can the 4 decks play at the same time.
Thanks for the review, I do however have a question/remark. You're saying it can be used as a standalone-mixer, but when I connect my turntables the EQ doesn't work => have you tested this? The EQ is software-driven, so you can only adjust volume or fade-in/out in "standalone-mode". No EQ'ing.
Hey, nice review! I got this controller at the beginning of this year and I love it. I am thinking about getting my first cdj. Can I still use some effects from the rr or can I just use the equalizer section? Greetings Sperus
+SperusArtZ - Kostenlose Intros (ab 50 Subs) you will only be able to use the mixer section I'm afraid. The controller channel effects and pad fx are built into the software and as far as we're aware can't be routed through the line/phono channels. We will double check this however just incase this controller is different to others.
How do you find the pitchfader being so short? Cause I wanna learn djing using mostly my ears and not relying on the computer and so on. Be good at beatmatching and so on. What do you think?
The pitch fader is still very precise. It just takes a little getting used to those really fine adjustments. We’re glad you’re wanting to learn by ear. 100% the best way. This controller would be a great place to start. It’s much better for beat matching that the intro RB controller.
My DDJ RR on one side (left) it’s off.. it’s playing fine but the cues and sampler pad fx etc. it’s off I mean the lights are off. Everything is fine just the lights are off.. none knows why. HELP HELP HELP
+romer we've got the PT01 plus 3 different crossfaders sat in the studio ready to review. It's likely to be next week or the following week they go live. Next up on our list is the Roland DJ 808. You're correct too, you can't hook the PT01 into the RB.
+romer of course. They're great but wait for the video as depending on what you want to use it for they can start getting quite complicated in the set up.
Harrison Bagot I just upgraded about 3 weeks ago. I got the ddj 800, which is a newer version on this controller in my eyes. It was well worth it to me
@@keithlee4963 that's exactly what it is, but i feel like the 800 is a bit expensive for a 2 channel controller, and i might aswell save for the 1000 for 4 channels, but still not looking to spend that much just yet, how much was your 800?
Harrison Bagot I bought my new for $800, but yes I see your point about the price. I personally didn’t need 4 channels right now. I was attracted to the Cdj like layout and xlr outputs.
Could you tell me please if there is any way to disable the crossfader. I been a serato user and i had this option but i couldn't find it on recordbox.
+Thanos Andreou yes. Within the rekordbox software click the mixer tab along the top of the software. The Crossfader then shows up, you can then select or de select the channels that are assigned to the right and left of the Crossfader. You can't do it on this particular controller. Just within the software itself. Hope this helps.
+Thanos Andreou yeah there is a load lock option. Off the top of my head I think it's in the controller tab. Then under the deck option. It's called load lock. I'll have a look later if you still struggle to find it.
+Ben Crowther we have an older video of you have a look back through our reviews playlist. It's one of the first reviews we did and compared it to the CDJ nexus range.
+Ian Weir it doesn't have XLR balanced outputs no. The only way you could use it in a club is to plug it into a channel on the mixer in the club and leave that channel fader up. This works but just make sure you're not pushing the controller into the reds or the clubs mixer.
+Anders Hagensen hey. This totally depends on what level you're at as a dj and where you decide to take your career. Have you got experience as a dj and have you used Pioneer cdjs before? I would say look at getting the CDJ 2000 nexus or 2000 nxs2's over just the normal CDJ 2000s. There is quite a difference between and the normal 2000's do feel pretty dated now. A DJM 900 nexus is a great mixer. It's pretty much industry standard and the mixers don't vary too much between the various Pioneer models so that is a great shout. Especially if you're looking to buy 4 cdjs. With the RMX I'd say this isn't necessary but a lot of fun to play with. It works well for house and techno Dj's in particular. You have more scope over effects than the in built parameters in the DJM's effects. Honestly I would say if you're dream is to be a touring artist DJ then a 4 CDJ Pioneer set up is basically what you can expect at the higher level bookings. If you're a regular club dj it's hard to come across more than 2 cdjs in normal venues. Therefore if you practice routines using 4 you may be limited when turning up to certain venues unless you take your own extras.
+ROYK I don't think the filter will do a total kill. If you're filtering down you could take the bass out as well and this will pretty much kill the music. High pass however you will likely just get the very high end frequencies coming through still.
i'm uncertain between the ddj rr and the ddj sx (the sx i will buy it used) because the rr is based on rekorbox that personally i like it more than serato, but the layout of the sx is more "comfortable"
+Alberto Vecchiato I think the benefit of getting the SX is that it will work with both serato and rekordbox so can use both softwares but note that you will have to purchase the license for it. It also has four channels if that's something you are planning on utilising. The layout between the two isn't too different to be honest. You will very quickly get comfortable on an RR if you're used to Pioneer controllers.
It is almost working fine with Traktor, however I have one problem. The volume of the track I'm cueing is less than the track in the mix. This means it is almost drowned out by the playing out track when cueing up. You can crank up the gain but then you have to turn it back down before bringing the new track in. Does anybody have any ideas why this is happening?
+J Lifestyle all down to the software really. The shell’s of each controller are almost the same. Very similar feature set just designed and labelled for different softwares. Have you looked into Serato or rekordbox or have any prior experience on either?
+Andres Gallego I think as a total beginner to DJing rekordbox can be quite overwhelming as there is a lot to the software. Serato is maybe a little easier to get your head around. Bare in mind serato doesn't work with this particular controller. You would need one of the other serato compatible controllers. If you get an intro controller such as the DDJ sb2 this comes with an intro version of Serato which is very simple to understand and learn with but you will eventually have to pay for the upgrade. We have online courses for beginners using both serato or rekordbox so whichever controller you decide to go for we can help if you get stuck.
+Modern Royalty yeah sorry about the mic. We tried it with a different one but unfortunately didn't realise how it sounded until after recording it all. We will make sure it's much better for our next review. We hope the content is still as valuable.
yeah I was gonna get the ddj RB until I saw this review of the RR which made me think getting this would be better in long term use so your content is as good as always

+wikkidselekta it’s within rekordbox’s settings not on the controller itself.
which version of rekordbox is this?
We're not quite sure which exact version this will have been as it's an old video. Most likely it's version 4
@@Crossfader i see, thank you!
What about that Denon tho?!?!?!?
You should do a giveaway w the RR
+ShamSaw haha would be great if we could... maybe in the future 👍🏼
DDJ RR or DDJ 400?
If you’re a complete beginner I’d say 400. However the ddj 800 is only a little more.
Wait this really doesn’t use Serato DJ?!?
Doesn't work with serato... i stopped watching cuz then whats the point? such a nice controller too
What all this and it doesn't work with aerato or the other one
Im shocked
HOLD HOT CUE AND THEN YOU CAN USE SAMPLE HOT CUES
Ron Swanson: You just got pubic hair son, what do you know about vinyl.
Ahh!! RR or SR2??!
Now that its been a year: What controller did you get and why ?
Can you play songs off a usb
No not with this controller, you would need to look at something like the XDJ RX2.
I'm new on this so what's the difference between this two software??
Which two software's do you mean? Rekordbox & Virtual DJ 8 or Export mode and Performance Mode?
Sorry about that, Rekordbox and Serato.
For someone with not experience on dj, what would be better or easier??
Thanks for your support!!
We have online courses for beginners using both serato or rekordbox so whichever controller you decide to go for we can help if you get stuck.
dude your mic isnt as good this time are you using a diffrent one because the frequencies are mushing up its sounding really bad
+Modern Royalty yeah if you're looking at something more long term it's definitely worth that extra investment.
