Hopefully My Last Custom Figure!

- I updated my custom figure design for hopefully the last time! After animating “My second custom figure” I found out that magnets are really not the best thing for this project. That animation was a nightmare to animate! The magnets stuck to each other, They weighed the arms down, and they moved more easily then the wire making it hard to make a smooth animation. I made it seem like magnets were the big breakthrough and the key to a custom figure but really the breakthrough was the replaceable wire! The skeleton of the figure is just paper pipes strung together with pipe cleaners making it very easy to replace! This is the design I used for the mech Godzilla and lofty mech. I may make a tutorial at some point, but this figure may also tern out to have a lot of flaws, so stay tuned while I test it!

Without the extra height and magnets making the figure look like an automaton/animatronic, it looks less like something out of a short lego horror film and more like an actual figure that you would probably find in the toy store.
I love that you are willing to help others create awesome stop motions as you improve your own skills to ensure accurate lessons. Great work as always, keep it up.

Well it is posable, but it is hard to make incremental adjustments to the figure making it hard to animate smoothly.

The older one looks better, but I can’t probably agree that the newer one might be easier to use, but just I think it should be taller and just be the same height as the old one

you should get a 3d pen so you can make your own joints and not have to use wires or ..magnets..

SUPER GREAT FIGURE, buuuut how do keep the pipe cleaners from breaking?
(On another note I’ve made figures using the joints in straws too if that’s an idea)
The pipe cleaners do break. But I designed it to be replaceable.

Hey when do you think you might make the tutorial for Lofty. I don’t wanna steal the idea I would just kill to have a custom figure like Lofty
I’m not sure if I will make a tutorial anytime soon. Lofty is kind of a pain to animate 😬 and I don’t think the figure is worth it. But the basic ideas is just rolled up paper with superglue and pipe cleaners holding the whole thing together.
