The brush holder is early republic period very nicely done. The vase is a flambe glazed but did not turn out too well. The pooling on the foot technique can not be done properly today and has been lost. Grinding/filing of glaze is found on newer pieces (you picked one up). The shape is 18c probably around the Yongzhen period. The "patina" is supposed to be red while the green is supposed to be just a slight hue and the glaze looks like it dripped too far down the vessel.

Nothing about that brush holder is too complicated to be done today.

    • @petecabrina

The brush washer isn't Republic, the scene isn't even that very well done, the enamels are weak, the porcelain is low quality and this type of scene is copied all the time, you see it on plaques quite a lot. It has even been deliberately made to look dirty to try to fake age which is always a red flag. Nothing in this market is old and most of it is not even decent quality, the carved vases were nice quality but still modern. The vase he bought glued to the stand is also modern, its all just made to look old, even the gluing to the stand lol They will even fake repairs these days and use fake dealers and collectors sticker. Chinese porcelain is a nightmare really if you want to be a collector, but you are much better off trying to find things in western countries, especially in Europe.

Peter Combs here in YT is the perfect place to start though, his videos are very good and he has a great broad knowledge of Chinese and Japanese antiques. Finding the good international sellers on ebay will help too and to start purchasing genuine items. Peter's website is good for this too, he lists genuine items up for sale all the time and even has a list of the good and bad auction houses, he is also regularly doing videos of upcoming auctions from good sales.

For the first one you bought, the words in black on the front and sides are poems, very poetic but I can read only half of it, like "house in jiang nan" and "light wind brightness" which means something like "refreshing sublime view". Chinese poems are hard to translate sometimes. The bottom is the name of company from Jiangxi that made it. Everything is read top to bottom, right to left. It's quite nice but since it's a company name it's probably mass produced? Try using Google Lens on it.

it is a bit late (if you still have it!)...one of the poem is: 扁舟一棹歸何處?家在江南黃葉村 by 蘇軾, the other one is 大江來從萬山中,山勢盡與江流東 by 高啟 year says 丙子年 which is 1936, I can't make out the aritist name though as the vid is a bit fuzzy :) it is 40USD so I think no matter what it is that's not too expensive 😀

When I moved to China they told me to pay only 10% of the asking price and each time they accepted ,,, If you Watch other videos of specialists buying you can see that most of these vases cost only a few dollars from the factory.
